Well i just quit L2 .. mainly due to fact i was bored to tears of the the ingame economy.
My Verdict
Great game if your prepared to lose half your lifespan grinding for ingame currency.
Don't listen to L2 fanbois who say " stick with it game comes alive after 20 and your 1st jobchange" it didn't.
Don't listen to L2 fanbois who say " stick with it game comes alive after 40 and your 2nd jobchange" it didn't *note. OMG how tedious and pointless was the 2nd job change..those that have played will know what i mean*
Don't listen to L2 fanbois who say " once you get endgame and subclass game comes alive " i have no idea , and really could not be arsed to find out either. If a game needs you to get endgame status before you can enjoy it .. then f**k it.
Those players that want you to stay have a good reason too....they need new players to fob off overpriced crap they have been storing up for months.
As for Adena bot farmers..lol...no comment.
Overall it is a very well designed and executed game , with solid gameplay and a pretty decent community.
On a personal note..I found the market for new and used items totally inflated beyond reason.
yes yes yes i know i know..all Mmorpgs have player driven economies..but seriously L2's is hilarious.
I know i'll get flamed by a load of high level L2 players who have dedicated several years of their lives on this game...
And please remember this is MY personal review..i did after all PAY for the game.
P.S As i said it is a great game if you really have absolutely nothing else in your life to do except repeat mindless quests over and over and over..just to get ingame currency.( which still won't be enough).
P.P.S....i do not want to play a bloody Dwarf ..the only damn char that can craft.. another classic L2 quote " create and level a crafter , u can sell what u make ".. B******ks ! , unless you already have a high level main char to buy and supply the requred mats.
Ever seen a japanese show called Endurance ?..ever wonder why they put themselves through all that pointless torture and pain ?... play L2 you'll know why..they're all ex L2 players trying to forget.

Perfect Fanboi response to a review that they don't like of "their" game.
Now it's not wait till level 20 or wait til level 40 or wait until end game. No. Now it's cuz the reviewer is not social enough or didn't want to join a guild. Uh huh.
And if the OP comes back and says that he DID join a guild... then ofcourse fanboi gameloading will come back and tell him that he ofcourse, joined the wrong guild... and that's the reason he didn't like Lineage 2.
OP - Good, honest review from your experience of L2. Thanks for your opinion.
Gameloading... STOP acting like the OP isn't a socialable person or failed to do this or that in the game simple because he didn't like it. Let him have his opinion and respect him for atleast sharing it.. even though it's painfully obvious you don't agree.

Parties and RB's...nice example ..
RB's you spend countless hours trying to get RB parties..when you do all RB's are dead.. also note only certain vhars are welcome in RBP..Nukers , a Buffer and a tank ie: 1 tank 1 buffer rest nukers (damage dealing mages).
As for normal parties ..LOL..
I was in a 2 clans...even getting parties in them was a long drawn out experiance...as most players will no doubt tell you , clans rarely recruit sub 40 players..so till then it's RBP and normal parties..see above.
AS for anti social..it is unless your the right char and the right level..otherwise no one wants to know you.

Did you even bother to raid? did you join an alliance that is involved in the politics?I was invited with all my characters into guilds well before I even reached lvl 30, and I joined in big pvp fights when I was around lvl 40, and have been raiding since my lvl 20. the game is a game made for massive scale. don't get me wrong, you did make some valid points. but I also feel that you missed the good parts

Perfect example of a typical hater comment. what was the lvl you reached the last time when you played L2 Zax? wasn't it 20? in every topic about Lineage 2 I have always mentioned that you DO need to be part of a big clan and alliance in Lineage 2. its a game thats based about clans. ,my reply was not directed at the op, it was my oppinion on how I think the game should be played. and lets face it. if this topic was about Asherons call, you would be the first one to jump in and tell everybody how great it is. not that that matters, but it might make you want to think twice before you call somebody a fanboi.

I quit too but in the 30's I raided a ton and PvPed..
And gameloading is right, if it were about AC, you would be saying how great it is.. I have seen your posts...

Dunno when or what period in L2 history you actually were 40 and under..but i can assure you it's not as inviting now...Invited to raids LOL. getting in a damn party is hard enough. as for politics , what politics..you surely don't mean the tedious " mines bigger than yours" wars between players who have lived this game for 2+ years ?.
But hey , if you want to don those rose tinted specs for the sake of any potential L2 clients then by all means go ahead.
To anyone wanted to start L2 it's a fantastic game with absolutley no issues whatsoever...everyone is warm and friendly.you'll have no trouble getting into clans and parties for mass pvp raids..also the market is fair and totally free from corruption so you won't have to spend 2 years farming adena....hey your right those glasses do work.
*note as i said the game itself is very good..i do like it. BUT it's not a mmorpg your going to enjoy if your a casual player or looking for instant gaming pleasure.*

You are 100% correct about the economy Strontium. It is very wonky at best. You need to put some serious time into it to get anywhere. However this is no secret Its the one point of the game that drives me nuts. Its manageable if you give it time. I can tell you that from experience. Personally I would like to see a system like FFXI. LOCAL auction houses with player shops also. I made my small fortune in L2 but it took a large amount of time and effort with the community.
Time is what its all about in any game. if you are in a hurry to get to cap and enjoy endgame play WoW or Guild Wars. Both are very good games that you can get to endgame very easily. That doesn't make them bad or easy games. You take it in the shorts with grind eventually with WoW also.
L2 is not about the grind, its about struggle, community, conflict and achievement. There is an obstical for everything you do in L2. (a group of sadist did design the game) You need to literally overcome everything to achieve in L2 (Guild vs Guild conflict, PvP, PvE and PvEconomy) Its is designed to weed you out.
I don't know how long you played or what level you got to so its hard to tell where you are coming from. Since your chief axe to grind is the economy, I'm guessing your not a vet?
Its a tough game and not for everyone
The OP said he played until end-game. He gave reasons as to why he didn't like the game. Then you come in and bascially say that he never raided, or joined a guild, or was not social at all. That is a typical "fanboi" comeback to someone's bad review of the game. You didn't directly accuse the OP of being insocail or not joining a guild... but you might as well have.
In response to you saying that I would have jumped in and been saying how great AC is if it had been a negative review of AC... Well, I'm not so sure. If the reviewer had stated he has played past level 100 (mid-game or more) and gave all the reasons he disliked AC.. then I would likely respect him for his opinion. If it was obvious he had never even played AC for even 1 hour, then I might jump in his thread and basically "prove" that he never really played it or something.
I realize that not everyone loves a game like AC. I also understand that there are many things more casual mmo players would likely hate about AC. So if someone came and gave a review of AC that said understandable statements like "AC has way too much of a level grind" and "AC is lacking low to mid level players" and "AC is about uber-loot" and "AC has pretty bad or dated graphics" and so forth... then I would understand them and I wouldn't make a post "Yeh, but you never raided or PvP'd in AC.. anyone that doesn't do these things will hate AC". Again, I would NOT make such a post.
Wanna know how I know that I would not make such a post in such a thread? Because I have seen several such threads on these boards and have not responded to them.
Yes, I am a fanboy of Asheron's Call. But I give explicit reasons as to why I think it is better then today's mmo's and I've also posted many threads on how I think AC could be made "better". So I hardly think AC is perfect. And I do not just basically trash anyone who doesn't like AC's style.
You, on the otherhand basically trashed the OP (indirectly) for his review on L2. You have also trashed me for stating that I didn't like L2's style. I have reasons as to everyone looking the same, not enough customizaion in the game, and too few choices in skills and classes. But then you trashed me because I made it to level 20-something. I think the 40 or so hours that I played Lineage 2 certainly justified me giving the reasons that I did for not liking L2's style, graphics, and character customization options. Those are ALL things that don't require experiencing "end-game" to be able to know. For example, I don't have to play 1000 hours and experience the end-game to know that I don't like the graphics-style of Lineage 2. I also logged into RYL for 30 minutes and hated the graphics in that game. The graphics styles of RYL and L2 are almost identical.

I could easily see from his review that the OP did not play the game the way the developers designed it to be. I simply explained HOW the game was designed to be played. its the exact same as your comment when somebody played Asherons call for only 1 hour. its like going to a theme park, ignore all attractions and at the end of the walk out and complain how bad it is.the thing I did was point at the reviewer that you HAVE to try the attractions before you can make a review.
I am not a fanboi. in fact, I don't even play Lineage 2 anymore.
Zaxtor, this guy never played the end-game..
Also, I quit too but that was because I couldn't compete with the botters.
Raiding was really fun though and PvP was amazing.
~Greatness~

Many single player games start out with most everything locked, but at least they can be unlocked after 1-4 weeks of playing. I think most of these MMORPG developers are afraid of people getting bored if they can do everything from the getgo, but if they limit how people can play through then even if they do get bored they've been milked for an extra 4-6 months of subscription time. Assuming people stick around long enough to try those features out.
