CoV endgame?

CrazemanCrazeman Member Posts: 6

i'm trying to figure out if i should get this game. i have a bunch of online friends who just started playing it and i'm tempted to go join them but i've been pretty broke in terms of $$ goes and i REALLY dont want to blow $30 on a game and then find out it sucks midway :P

what does CoV offer in terms of end game content? insane dungeon raiding like in WoW? good pvp siege fun like in shadowbane? honestly i've heard from one RL friend that the game is pretty repetitive in terms of leveling but i havent heard anything about the end game.

and hows the pvp in CoV? when the game orginally came out, i thought that the heroes side would be so insanely overpopulated when compared to the villian side since CoH came waaaay before CoV. back in the day i've also read that the villian side is lacking a healer class (how the heck does that work?! no healers? :P). is it overpowered for the heroes because the villians dont really have a healer? my first mmorpg was shadowbane, and i loved full scale zerg sieges because it was so epic. how are the super-base-battles or whatever at endgame?

any comments/info would be appreciated since i really dont know much about the game :P thanxs in advance!

Try before you buy... Fileplanet 14-day Free Trial ::::20::

I've been playing CoH since release and CoV since its beta.
I'm still subscribed and have been playing regularly since Issue 7...

    Short review:
It's a fun MMO although not as deep as most others.
It's good for casual players who just want to beat stuff up. ::::02::

    Pros:
Combat is very fluid and is quite flexible.
A lot of fast action and team combat/dynamics are especially well done.

It's easy to jump in and play straight away.
Groups are easy to assemble and if you're short on time, you can solo most missions.
It doesn't matter if your friends are too high-level as they can drag you around as their lackey. ::::01::

Costume creation and customization are top-notch.
You can recreate almost any costume concept you have and the powersets are fun and varied.

    Cons:
Many mission maps and enemies are recycled. ::::07::
There aren't many 'non-combat' activities. No crafting, no loot, no economy, mostly just combat.
And the end-game is pretty lacking right now...

There's going to be some more end-game content in Issue 8, but no one knows how it will work.

What do you mean by “fat loot”?
In the next update, Issue 8, we will have a new system that gives us the ability to make your level 50 characters better. That means we’ve abandoned the idea of raising the level cap to 60 for now and instead will give you the option to make your level 50s better, then better again and then even better. That process will last a lot longer than additional 10 levels, which just create a new problem: What to do after hitting level 60?

Will we have to wait another six months before we see Issue 8 being released?
No, I expect a release 3-4 months after Issue 7, which means around September. Issue 8 is well on track and there won’t be any big technological speed bumps this time.

I'm not that experienced in the PvP but at the moment, I think villains are losing...

    1) Villains are outnumbered.
Heroes have had 2 years to get to 50 and get their Hami-Os. (Raid loot)
The numbers will even out once villains have had time to level up.

    2) The villain population is unbalanced.
The majority of PvP villains play Stalkers. (The stealthy assassin class)
    They're a great class but kinda one-dimensional...

It's true that villains have less healing but in CoV PvP, the combat is way too fast and spread out for healing to work well. The main difference between victory/defeat are buffs and mezzes.
Heroes and Villains both have great buffers/mezzers but not many villains PvP with theirs... ::::12::

my first mmorpg was shadowbane, and i loved full scale zerg sieges because it was so epic. how are the super-base-battles or whatever at endgame?
The PvP zones are a lot of fun and is where most people PvP.
The new end-game zone, Recluse's Victory is awesome although it's kinda unbalanced right now as heroes are out-numbering villains.

CoV is not really a PvP-focused game like Shadowbane or Guild Wars...
I'd rate the PvP as pointless and a bit unbalanced but it's good for some quick fun.
