Saw this post over at the official forums and thought it was interesting, so Im passing it on (since it was deleted, of course). There was a thread going about the Bioware/SWG rumors, it had been goin for over 2 hours and had over 100 posts in it before it finally got deleted, lol. Well within that thread was a post that caught my eye, so thought I'd paste it here for anybody who's interested. Could of course be total BS, but I leave that for everybody to decide on their own, so give it a read if you like...
thread is deleted, swgmod001 finally woke up, but link anyhow...http://forums.station.sony.com/swg/board/message?board.id=swggpdiscussion&message.id=906858&view=by_date_ascending&page=5
Rumor, here is fact. From my most trusted source...
Almost 2 weeks ago subscription numbers dropped below a set threshold. This was because, apparently, the last publish has not been greeted with the reception they expected and more accounts are being canceled.
The Devs have been in meetings trying to figure out what to do without introducing target lock, a que-based combat system, and/or a rollback to pre-cu (along with other things that have been removed “and will never return”).This is why they have been so silent.
In addition to the dwindling subscription numbers, the Restuss event has developed problems with its implementation, and it will be extremely difficult to get it live by the end of the summer (end of august).
The solution to this problem is that the way to unlock the final battle will be made more difficult in the hopes that the added time it takes for a server to unlock the event gives them the time needed to make sure the event run’s smoothly.

We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"

Sums up my feelings about SWG pretty well
I dont know has MyHandlewastaken said anything that makes his claim credible?
Also, there have been a number of posts claiming that SOE is about to make a big announcement. Immediately deleted of course.
The Restuss event will become so difficult and convoluted
to unlock that SOE wll have to start handing out Holocrons for hints.
Subs will plummet. In acts of desperation, the starving developers will start hunting down and eating SOE Executives as they graze on the country club golf course. The mad cow disease that the SOE Executives are obviously suffering from will be passed onto the now satiated developers, in turn making them easy prey for the pitch fork-wielding disgruntled customers who have finally risen up and laid siege to the SOE headquarters. All SOE employees dealt with, headquarters burnt to the ground. A Starbucks® mysteriously springs from the ashes.
It's win-win for all.
Here we go its confirmed LOL

Couple of other odd things happening
The Comlinks last night gave a message saying that they had been deleted. This morning they were back. In other words - messages accidentally lost.
The forum has been timing out a lot.
Searches have been coming up the "There are too many searches going on right now"
Servers have been going up and down at random ( has not happened in a while)
For those that remember - a lot like when the game first launched.
I'm sure it's just that the community is so big that today's technology cannot handle the demand for the game.
post commenting about it
The truth is out there....
It may be...
I know that there are number of devs that are viewed by the general public as enemies on the forums that have taken up our case in key meetings.
I cannot speak to the validity of the original post, but i can say that this conversation has taken place a number of times. The thing is - if the nge fails - there is no fall guys other than Smed and Julio. The dev team is starting to realize it.
It's been almost a week since our last insider source talked to us.
I was starting to get scared!
not a rumor - more like common knowledge
To be honest the only people that really care about this game are the devs. Whose careers can be made or lost with SWG.
LA is all about Lego Wars right now. Seriously.
Smed is smed. He's more corporate than anything else. He is no Koster, that is for sure. If I were him - I would wonder why people were smiling and nodding so intently when he spoke with them. What goes around comes around smed.
Are you totally insane or just plain vindictive?

After people will whine they don't want random unlocks, they'll add a fixed unlock path, place it in city of Nashall, where you'll need to run quests to unlock.
Of course, even more people will start whining, and after one complete Nashal quest series overhaul, they'll announce NRE (New Restuss Event), which will allow everyone to participate in the event. That of course will upset all the people who did it before, but they'll need to get over it with their Elder Restuss Citizen title.
Hey.. it's FOX news. What would you expect?

LMAO!
So tell us, how did you manage to get your hands on an official SOE game development handbook?
Im still waiting on my NGE wall plaque too, it has a special place of honor reserved for it, next to my lovely CU plaque. Although I heard rumors that now the devs are thinkng about changing it into a bumper sticker for the 3-year instant travel vehicle, woot!
"Uh, we had a slight weapons malfunction, but uh... everything's perfectly all right now.
We're fine. We're all fine here now, thank you. How are you?"
Isn't the reason for that just that SoE have a standard practice of ignoring their playerbase, keeping them in the dark and when they do talk to them of feeging them BS?
You really don't NEED a source to come up with this. Yes, the game has continued to lose subs to be sure...
And yes, the Restuss event has a technical hurdle: It's called the servers CANNOT HANDLE that many people in one place fighting at one time and they never could, as the TC player vs Devs events have shown.
Like the NGE combat system (which doesn't work and misfires specials because of the use of the UDP protocal and the need to get <.5 second response times without error over the internet), some idiot in a cubicle came up with an idea (the Restuss event) that the moronic managers (Smed/Torres/McDaniel) signed off on and rushed into existance without consulting SYSTEMS AND NETWORKS people who would have laughed at them.
They don't know what the limitations are of their system hardware and the internet. To even have a CHANCE of working right they will have to spend tens of thousands of dollars upgrading ALL their servers (even the dead ones) times 25 in which case you are talking more money than SWG is still bringing in revenue...
By not considering pre-CU servers, or a change to target lock/queue based combat is to put an insurmountable obstacle between the Dev team and any chance of success or reversing the disaster that is the NGE.
A wise man once said, when you find yourself in a hole, the first thing you do is STOP DIGGING.
If they continue to do everything except what we WANT them to do, and are SCREAMING at them to do, and continue to fail at it, I wonder when the point comes where they either finally DO what we want them to do or pull the plug?
Packet loss is number of packets that have never arrived.
Ping is the time of roundtrip, or the time to receive answer from peer.
Unless you have packet loss over 0%, this cannot be blamed for misfiring specials.
SWG has, since the start, been using UDP protocol, the packet protocol itself is virtually unchanged since launch.
Specials have misfired/or never even fired even pre-cu. But due to the design that not only wasn't a problem, but wasn't even noticable, since it could only occur during rare situations in combination with certain actions, mostly /clearQueue. But as said, I only came back to this after remembering some unusual behaviour, nobody really noticed it.
There was also a timer bypass for pre-cu. During certain attacks, if you moved just a bit, you would bypass the "cooldown" timer (special action post-delay, i think), in that time weapon speed, which allowed for certain weapons to attack faster than they should. This is not the same as cooldown exploit that apeared later, but it has similar causes.

Well said.
I'd add that (to put it simply) the reason for mis-queues (mis-fires & fire-delays) is the lack of Target Lock. Previously, your system would send an action packet to the Server, which would confirm the action (Targeting, Distance, HAM, etc) and send the results to you and all other players within range. The server knew where you were & what you were Locked Onto before the action, making verification almost unnecessary & rare.
Before the NGE (and SOE has posted they didn't use UDP, but another packet type but won't say what it was, go figure) the packet system used by SWG was more than capable of responding effectivly. It would take a LARGE Number of players (100+) to Lag things up (if you had your settings right).
When Target Lock went away, another issue popped up: The x-hairs vs hit Box. Simply put, the system now, after your packet is sent, must verify with your machine that your crosshairs were indeed over the target, adding another level of communication to the process. This was what caused all of the misfires before speed was put on wep's.
Many people don't realize this, but there is still a queue, and always will be. You can see it when you hit an action and it fires AFTER the action that was taking place finishes (this is VERY easy to see with a Pike or Rifle). Becasue of the targeting system not locking (the server not knowing what your target is) it must verify what you ARE aiming at when the action actually fires, causing a previously unnecessary verification between the Server, other players & you. Basicly, everytime you swing or launch a special they must be verified.
The way that games like PS work is that they don't verify targets (it's a free-fire game, SWG is not), that's why they've had so many aimbot & cheat issues (and why PB was created for FPS games). For those of you that have played it, that's also why there's so much sliding, dead-aim misses & rubberbanding in large battles. If PS has those issues without verification, how can SWG do it with it?
Simply put, SWG was not built for a system like this, and will NEVER work in large scale PVP. SOE should have known this, considering their experiences with SWG, PS & EQ.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!
In fact, forget the SWG!!!!
