Making LFG channel worldwide a mistake?

Takata5Takata5 Member Posts: 336

Anyone else think that making the LFG channel worldwide was a mistake? If you do, say why and what other channel you'd rather see worldwide. There is too much spamming going on now, they should have kept it just in the cities. I think all that spam will scare off the lowbies to LFG for quests that they need help with.

Now I think they should have made the guild recruitment as a worldwide channel instead.

The intention was probably good, the result is horrendous. I'm turning off that channel because of the mass spam coming in. People are also using it for everything else but LFG/LFM.

Yup, the result is terrible.  I keep it turned off now too.

Whats happening now is that people are treating LFG as general chat, leaving the original general chat channel empty and useless...

Before I used to leave town to get out of the spam. Now I cannot escape it. They shoulda just made a worldwide que where u can pick what u are looking for and find the class u need that is lfg.

Lol, I hate this new feature. Luckily it's easily resolved with the '/leave 4' command.

    It's a great idea.

All you got to do is make another chat panel minimize it, tune it to LFG channel and, look at it whenever you want. Make sure you turn it off in your normal chat window..

Professor Hubert Farnsworth - That question is less stupid but, you asked it in a profoundly stupid way.

They should make Channels for each "set" of levels, similar to EQ2's system. You join the channel as soon as you meet the level requirements (ie. Levels 1-9, 10-19, 20-29, etc)

You can leave the old channels as soon as you out level them.

    Works perfectly for me :)

The first few days on my server (Hyjal) the spam was terrible but now the majority of people just talking in it has calmed down quite a bit and mostly the only messages left in the channel are LFG messages.

It was a mistake but the spam has died down a bit. I don't mind the chat really, only when I'm looking for a group.
  • I heard beta testers say there used to be an actual LFG tool.  But it was taken out before release.  Blizzard mistakenly made some channel server wide a couple patches ago and then people asked for the current functionality and the decided that "bug" was actually a good feature.

I really can't understand why they won't implement an at least somewhat decent LFG tool.  This just strikes me as a half ass solution and what you all are describing is what I was expecting to happen.  Even more distorubing is that Caydiem speficially said the devs were working on and LFG tool.  What happened to that?  That same thread with a with a pretty nice Mock gets bumped back up to the general forums like once a week easily it has been floating around for months and months.  I just don't get it.

As a software engineer Blizzard's design behavior over the last year or so just boiggles my mind.  I'm not talking about bugs and stuff, I expect those.  Or even "balance", class, faction or otherwise.  Just bad decisions or a complete lack of any decision and shortsightedness.  Glad I don't have to deal with it anymore.

I think this was a good idea, all you have to do is make the LFG channel a separate channel like I did and I only see it when I need a group.

Or you can get this mod Call to Arms
    http://www.curse-gaming.com/en/wow/addons-1440-1-calltoarms-lfg-mod.html
    Its a great mod.

Well I think it was a good idea. Once the WoW players get used to it and everything, they'll stop spamming, and use General as General chat. But on my server, it doesent get hardley any spam, but it is spammed with "/LFG - <Place name>".

Which is why i have the Channel turned off, unless i need more people for my group. Or if i'm looking for a group.

This, cross-server BGs and paid transfers is why Blizzard, or any company for that matter, should NEVER listen to the players.

Many players ask for global LFG channel, it's done, now everyone whines and complains.

Many, many players ask for cross-server BGs, and the whining has already started BEFORE they are even released.

Many, many, many players asked for PAID (yes, they, and I, say PAID) transfers to the server of their choice, now everyone is crying because somehow $25 is "alot of money".

No matter what they do or implement, the forums become flooded with retards whining about the smallest shit.

EDIT: For the record, I am FOR global LFG channel, cross-server BGs AND Paid transfers.

    Indeed, its a gr8 addon

A life? Where can I download one of those?

  • Their mistake is putting it into channel form not making it global.  There are too many people on a server to have a global channel be useful, it might be fun but it won't be that useful.  They should have made some tool like Call to Arms and some kinda global communicaiton with that tool.

They need to make a list so when your LFG you can sign up for this 'queue' and it automatically helps you gather members

It'd be better if they'd just created a new worldwide LFG channel but still kept with the local LFG channel, like they did with LocalDefence and WorldDefence.

  • khragkhrag Member Posts: 184
I think that if they want to keep the WWLFG channel do so, but make a small change. Make three of them, lvl 1-20, lvl 21-39, and lvl 40+. In my experience, most of the spam has come from low level idiots (which gets even worse when the PvP servers are down and they all flock to our servers)

I agree.  The overall intent of Blizzard was to make finding parties easier.  They hoped that by allowing people in different zones to talk to eachother it would make finding a party easier.  The other thing they were hoping to help is something that happens to me all the time:

You've worked for an hour in a UBRS raid and FINALLY gotten to Drak... and the priest d/c's.  So, you wait 10 minutes praying he/she will come back, but they don't.  Now your options are... find a guildy who can join or send one person back to a city to look for a replacement.  This new system would allow you to look for a priest without even moving.  When you find one, summon him to you with your warlock (You DO have a warlock for drak, don't you?).

I think they should keep it server wide, but seperate it by levels like EQ2 does.  This is just my opinion though.

Yeah EQ2's channels thing isn't bad and often the 10-30's are the worst spammers (barrens chat etc.) so having a few different ranges is good.

i'd say the new LFG is a mixed blessing. I like being able to find grps without having to be in town. i've gotten in ulda grps one after another this way. on the other hand it has also become a spam fest for immature kids.
