I don't see how a game focused aroudn sports-arena style PvP gameplay could possibly foster roleplay. Thus, this isn't a true MMORPG. MMO-hack'n'slash. Also, first post in forum.
Insert generic anime quote/My Chemical Romance lyrics here.
Doesn't matter much to me. This game sounds and looks like fun...but for me, I can only see this as my backup/secondary to whatever game I end up deeply involving myself with in the next few months. And to mention, second post in the forum.
All I ever wanted in WoW was good PvP, now this game offers me more then 3 BGs, balanced gameplay, and pvp based character advancement thats NOT based on a boring grind for reputation? The only thing that could put me off is a monthly fee.
As long as its not time consuming to get a match going (i.e. if there are enough people actively playing the game) then well implemented structures such as guilds could add a role-play element. Role-playing is supposed to be oriented around other players and not the environment anyways right?
What worries me is how much variety in play-style there will be. I can't see myself spending hours a day, every week for months (god forbid years) doing PVP battles in 5 or 6 different arena styles. So far this game seems like it will have a CS style playing pattern (i.e. play for an hour here and there) as opposed to a WoW or EQ playign pattern (i.e. play for 4 hours in the morning, go to work, then play for 6 hours at night, wake up after 4 hours of sleep, rinse and repeat).
Thats actually why I'm getting kinda excited over this game. A lot of people enjoy online MMO style gaming but can't dedicate the time needed to improve ones character at the endgame, thats why I went into BGs instead of raids. I could play a few games and turn it off and not feel like I'm hurting the progress of 40 people due to my limited play time. In the end it didn't really work, I played thru every bracket and leveled through BG turn ins and in teh end it was still "sit and play for large blocks of time or quit." I just hope this game has the character development that MMORPGs consider standard, if it had a cookie cutter template type of thing going on I'd be put off, but it doesn't look to be the case.
The game looks awsome, I only have 2 concerns: 1. How well will the character types be balanced? How many maps/ game types will there be? Really Roleplaying be dammed. If you wanna ban to gether to face some dragon thats your thing but I need a game with some good PvP. I love the concept of a game without PvE
In this mode you fight a team from another Realm. The winners are the ones that win two out of three rounds.
At the moment, we dont know whether it will be a 4vs4 or "any nymber"vs"Any number"
Vortex:
Capture the flag with a bit of twist.
The aim: Capture crystal from insects and bring them back into your base. The twist: The other team can take everything you have worked for and claim it as theirs. The lesson: Never leave your base unguarded.
Forteress War:
Huge, alright relatively huge, scale battle of 32vs32 in a conquest to capture nodes and ultimatly the forteress.
Bloodbath:
Here is what everyone has alwyas wanted but never asked for; a huge area, lots of enemies and no allies. Survive that and you call yourself a True Gladiator.
In this arena unlike others, you have no ally at all- everyone is your enemy and behold your enemies number 63. That's 64 people in one big arena each fighting for himself.
you must really dispise the game if you went through all the trouble of registering, verfiying, and loging in just so that you can write three letters.
role-playing game simply means your taking the role of someone in a world. It's pretty vague i know. But thats basically all there is to it.
Anywhos who cares, I'm tired of rpers. It seems they all speak old english, or play a monstrous race and speak very poorly, forgetting that there are actual npcs in the game of the race which speak nothing like them. Only fun rp i've ever had in a mmo was in cov. Not to mention the fact that 70% of the people on rp servers in games dont even rp... sigh, just why bother
As far as gameplay's concerned it has the basic pillars of an RPG, such as Progression (you level, diversify, build your character into something -somewhat- unique), rewards, ...
As for actual role playing... You could do it (why not?), but if there are no RP servers your roleplaying will be largely unreciprocated. If there are RP servers, it should work. No trashtalking in fights so if people on your server roleplay too, you'll be a happy camper.

hmmm, seems like i should explain you what "RPG" means
"pingofdeath"
playing a role is not only talking like:greetings stranger, whats your name sir,
and stuff like that you know.
"RP" means much more, for example customizing your style, your cloths, your looking, your alligment
and such things.
it means you play another person than yourself wich is maybe compareable to you
in its character and its style, you understand ?
RPG's let you mot play customize able Character's(Roles) just as fury does
btw.. if you need some infos about the game, visit this page
