To all and those in marketing of an MMORPG.
I am a veteran player, im 28 years old, I have been around since the orignal Warcraft came out, I have seen runescape, and Everquest and played through them, into almost any mmorpg you can think of. WHat I see happening in todays gamers needs to be addressed. They are completly bored and addicted at the same time, and this needs to be addressed!!!
A company should run by Customer Satisfaction alone! Now in this day and age the customer isn't right, and companies think they can dismiss customer complaints. We need a company that serious understands the way to get huge success and income is to listen to the customers. There is this really stupid myth that you can't make everyone happy. That really isn't true with MMORPGS, because they have the ability to be everything and get alittle bit of everyones input into them. Yet we don't see it.
Im writing this because after playing mmorpgs my friends and I have decieded to quit. From the SOE SWG Petition to go back to the orginal game and its scandals, to the repeatitiveness of City of Heros/Villians to the other 500 games out there that have no real social or player interaction we have become bored and sick of it. I really wish that I had a few programers behind me, and a few million. Ask any Veteran Gamers and they would easily come up with hundreds of ideas for a new mmorpg game that would blow away the market and competition. Yet .......those with the know how and money seem to be putting out games that are all simular, and repeatitive.
SO with this said I am stopping all my mmorpgs accounts and getting off this addictive train. My friends and family are joining me , and I really wish someone out there with any brains would listen. I would love to see a company that is greedy enough to understand the following....
IN ORDER TO MAKE MONEY YOU NEED TO HAVE HAPPY CUSTOMERS!
IN ORDER TO BECOME FAMOUS YOU NEED TO HAVE A GOOD PRODUCT!
IN ORDER TO STAY ALIVE AND ABOVE COMPETITION YOU NEED TO LISTEN TO CUSTOMERS!
IN ORDER TO GET CUSTOMERS YOU NEED TO RELY ON WORD OF MOUTH AND THE GAME, NOT ADVERTISEMENTS AND ARTICLES IN MAGAZINES!
Also.......I seriously seriously believe that if any company out there gave any veteran mmorpg gamer 20 programers behind him or her and a million dollars that veteran player would easily explode a new game out that destroyed all competition. So it makes me wonder just who is developing these games to the point where they are all copies of another mmorpg, and have the same boring ideals......
You wouldn't Buy a plane that was designed by an engineer who doesnt understand gravity, so why would you continue to develop games that are build and developed and briefed in meetings by non gamers????
There I said it....

it s not as easy as "listening" to the customers..........
quite often half your customers want one thing while the other hand wants another:
mages: nerf rogues!
rogues: nerf mages!
just as an instant example :P lol
and i d say the majority of "suggestions" from the community are not well thought out and would actually be harmful to the game. Sure there is a few gems, some very good ideas...... but also a lot of garbage.
a good dev imho, should strife to make a game they would like themselves, no matter what anyone else thinks.
they are creating the game...... if they implement something they do not like because a customer told them so, then how can they still have faith in their own work? i d see such a game going downhill fast
I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
There's no way to please everyone. It's good to listen to your players, but if a developer did everything their players yelled at them to do, their game would be a mess. IMO, making a great game is not about pandering to the loudest complainers. It's about fun. All players - especially the ones who hang out on message boards - often get caught up in the way they think things "should" be in their game of choice. But they all too often forget that MMOs are supposed to be about fun.
Only thing that this thread shows is that only an MMORPG gamer can state that he's 28 and claim that he's a veteran. Hahahaha, I don't know, it just cracks me up!
And furthermore, whisper, you are wrong, giving money to a player would be a terible mistake, and making such an assumption just shows how litle thought you put into this before writing it.
But if someone actualy gives you a million dollars to make a game, prove me wrong, I'll admit it, untill then, ask yourself:" What would Bryan Boytanno do?"
Good luck with that.
The thing I disagree with is that "everyone's input" thing. I do think that it'd be a good idea to have more of a focus on game content and people's satisfaction but people have irreconcilable differences of opinion in regards to gameplay.
Hey, for example, twitch-based combat or RPG style combat. Good luck reconciling that one.
