"Premium Item Mall" (paysystem for in-game items)
filling a third of the homepage's front-page
a rating of 8.1?
ohw wait, i have a guess on who's responsible for the
rating...

on ratings...

There isn't anything in the item mall I would like to have so wtf? You can pimp up your stall, get a fancy hat, get absolution from death debt and more things that are really optional.
Nevertheless this game is still in beta, who knows what they will offer later which might become crucial in high level area?
I think it is the best free Korean mmorpg up to date but damned - what a grind.
And the game is not in beta, it ended in january i belive.
You really don't need to spend any money in the item mall to be able to advance or compete with everybody else. I have to agree SRO is the best free game I have played to date. I do play GW but I actually like SRO a little better. I like SRO so much I figure I might as well support the game and I have spent $10 in the item mall for both months I have played. I bought a monkey and 1000 arrrows and a gold ticket for leveling which really helped me get past level 20. You really don't need the gold ticket and I probably won't buy another one but it did help.
It's the best of a grinding bunch for me so far, although I've yet to play the PvP-side (getting past 20).
The only main flaw is that due to the heavy crowd,I can only really play SRO in the UK,on my server any time after 11pm at night. Still, once on the controls, moves and general atmosphere is pretty good, even if it's got its share of 'immaturity'.
The PVP side is quite fun. The current job system pales in comparison to the upcoming update though, that will really improve on the hunter/trader/thief trades.
Regarding Guild Wars, right now they are just there for fun. If it is against a guild that you don't like or money is at stake, it becomes a stupid game of "kill the low levels until we get higher points, and then hide in town." Down the road of updates they list a seige system. So maybe that will improve on the guild warring system. Also Union war is in the game but not usable yet.
Cape battles is the "arena" fighting. You put on a cape and outside of town you can attack anyone with a different colored cape (or orange cape can attack all). Fun test of seeing how your character stacks up against others. Of course keep in mind if you see someone in crazy mythical glowing armor and you are in your small leather armor, don't expect to win :P
