Update on the FPS issue for me anyway.

A good thing came out of the controversial rollback and that was my FPS increased dramatically, I'm now mostly capped for the first time, very pleased with that.

That was a major issue for me, and for the time being is greatly appreciated

I spent 3 days in the game and it was the worst ganing experience i have ever had.
    Some highlights:
    - Starting village devoid of any other players
    - Only one NPC who would talk to me with only ONE quest (which I tried to find the mobs to kill only to be told after 3 frustrating days "oh that mob is not in game yet")
    - Horrible lag, with startling "features" .. one minute you are wading through treacle, the next you are warped ahead about 50 feet only to be one-shotted because perversely you are always warped right next to a higher level mob
    - Clumsy interface, boring combat, and mouse controls with a (totally unpredictable) mind of their own
I won't bother repeating all the bugs others have written about, but I can confirm that they were not exaggerated.  The world IS beautiful, but the lag causes some weird kind of motion effect and I felt seasick most of the time.
After 3 days I quit and I won't go back. The most challenging "feature" was getting my subscription cancelled.  Took 4 days, longer than I spent playing the game.
Someone on these boards posted that they felt guilty about the fun they were having reading these forms and the DnL forums.  I can honestly say that I have had way more fun reading these forums than I had in game (or ever expect to have in that game) and I don't feel at all guilty about it:  gotta get my $55 worth somehow :p
PS: wave to everyone, I am new to MMORPG.com, nice to meet you all

Don't forget to get a refund with click and buy.  Farlan does not deserve anyones money.  If they fail to give you a refund (although it is part of their new marketing that you can get a refund) you can always get a chargeback as the game was not what was promised.  Best of luck in your next game but in the meantime there are lots of laughs here on the forums.

Thanks for the reminder, Zippy.  It took so long to get the auto sub renewal stopped that I quite forgot about the refund (duh).

Nice group of people on these forums, btw :)

I guess thats why opinions are called opinions. Some of the shortcoming are completly unacceptable to you, and for me are just issues that lower my overall view of the game, but are acceptable to a certain degree.

Furthermore if the original thread starter was genuine in his review he would have given the game a neutral score of a 5.  But the original thread starter gave the game a score of a 7 with the chance of that score improving becuase of "potential".

I gave the game a score on how i saw fit, i think i made that clear and if you dont like that, dont put any value on the scores given, or just skip the entire post. I was saying that were the scores i gave it. You dont have to agree, or even like it.

A lot of games that are more complete then Dark and Light are around the 7-9 range in terms of ratings.  Dark And Light even from a neutral observation deserves at most a rating of a 5.

Yupp, and most games are a lot better in terms of how they are released. Im pretty sick of most mmorpg's though, so i personally would give even those games a lower score, due to different factors, which is not the issue here.

That is why I can not take this reveiw seriously.

These were first impressions of a game. You dont have to take it serious, thats why its called a game. I dont make rocket science out of this, its not a evaluation of the human instinct regarding the digital world, these are my opinions on a game. You dont have to take it seriously, i just think some people might like reading it, and at least it moved you to reply, and maybe tilt the overall view of the game for a other reader, that might get a more complete view of what the game is about. All positive in my book.

Hmmm not the case anymore, as far as i could see.
    - Only one NPC who would talk to me with only ONE quest (which I tried to find the mobs to kill only to be told after 3 frustrating days "oh that mob is not in game yet")
There are 2 now, and a lot of vendors. The starting quest is still bugged if im not mistaking, so yeah amazingly stupid of farlan, while they have other quests that work, they dont take the time to fix the one that introduces players to their world. Quite stupid.
    - Horrible lag, with startling "features" .. one minute you are wading through treacle, the next you are warped ahead about 50 feet only to be one-shotted because perversely you are always warped right next to a higher level mob
Hmmm, didnt experience this once yet. It is pretty demanding on a pc though, so it might have been client side lag, in stead of server lag.
    - Clumsy interface, boring combat, and mouse controls with a (totally unpredictable) mind of their own
Combat is not exiting i agree, however its kinda the same like daoc or wow, just a lot less polished (animations, damage messages and little things like that)

I hope i wont have that problem. I did cancel my billing plan allready, because i got a bit frightened when i heard all the stories about it, but it wasnt that hard, allthough it was a bit unclear where to do it.

Well, as long as your having fun, all is well ;).

Not being able to log in the game is unacceptable.  Having rollbacks that hurt legit players while bugged weapons are still in the game are not acceptable.  We are not even discussing if Dark and Light is(if it is) a fun game.  We are talking about game breaking bugs.  If you feel gamebreaking bugs are acceptable to you then you are lowering your standards as to what is acceptable in an MMORPG.

That makes no sense at all.  Compared to the scores that are given to many other games on this site your score for Dark and Light is not realistic,  A seven is reserved for games that are at least average.  Dark and Light is far from being an average game.  If Dark and Light deserves a score of seven then many average games on this site deserve 8's and 9's.  And the really good games should be 10's according to you....

A game that people have to put real life money down.  Posts that decieve /misinform a potential customer are malicious in MY opinion.

But eventually i was able to log in. I wasnt able to log into wow when i first bought it, or SWG. Is it unacceptable? Yes. Does that mean i should ignore the entire game whatsoever and not look at the other aspects? I guess thats where our opinions are different, because i still give it a chance, and in most cases im glad i do.

Yes because the content of the game matters at least as much as the state the game is in. If EQ clone 983 is released, and its bugless doesnt mean i would give it a higher score, because the game doesnt appeal to me.

So your saying im misinforming and deceiving people here ? Is that because my opinion of the game is different from yours ? Does that automaticly means i lie ? Or because my opinion is different from the masses ?
I wonder what your really mean by this, because i cant imagin you mean what im describing here.

Um...some people that bought Dark and Lght can not log in at all.  You gave it a chance for a whole two days.  Like I said that is why I can not take your review seriously.  And in the event you are having problems SWG and Wow have GM's you know?  Dark and Light GM's are non existent.  SWG and WoW may not have the best customer support but at least it exists!  Dark and Light customer supports does not exist.  Your best chance of your voice being heard with this game is to go to an IRC channel or the forums.

I allready explained my reasoning behind this. Im not going to do it again, our opinions are once again different.

Your reasoning is too vague.  You said you gave Dark and Light whatever score you saw fit.  Tell me what score do you want to give (would you give) WoW? We know you gave Dark and Light a 7. This will be very interesting and I eagerly await your response.

Yes because the content of the game matters at least as much as the state the game is in. If EQ clone 983 is released, and its bugless doesnt mean i would give it a higher score, because the game doesnt appeal to me.

The reason I do not even bring up Dark and Light's content(and if I consider it fun) is becuase it is really lacking in that department.  I thought the grindfest known as Lineage II Pre C1 was lacking content but Dark and Light somehow has far less content at the start then L2.

So with that said looking at all the bugs that are gamebreaking (Eg weapon bug that allows people to powerlevel and have an advantage in PVP) is much greater priority then looking at if you are having fun.  But then again someone who logged in for only two days would not know about the recent rollback either. But do not forget that gamebreaking bugs can destroy/deter fun and enjoyment of a game.

So your saying im misinforming and deceiving people here ? Is that because my opinion of the game is different from yours ? Does that automaticly means i lie ? Or because my opinion is different from the masses ?

I wonder what your really mean by this, because i cant imagin you mean what im describing here.Your review bluntly put is deceptive to say the least.  You start off your post by disguising yourself as a "fair" reviewer by giving your history of playing through some of the other bad MMORPG titles.  But towards the end of your post you start to sugar coat Dark and Light left and right and saying it is not so bad as those other MMORPG's and its shorcomings are not a big deal.  Another poster even pointed this out as well.

People comparing the score of other games on this site will think Dark and Light is an average game with the score you saw "fit" to give ( a 7) if they read your review (Good thing there are multiple reviews from other readers).  Reality is this game is a subpar Alpha that should receive a generous score of a five.

So far two signs that you are losing this debate.

One is that you are personally attacking other people and your posts are being deleted as a result.  And two is that you are repeating yourself ( Same two paragraphs twice).

    Your surrender has been noted.

I'm not here to "win" anything, so i'll leave it at that.

By the way, i gave wow a review with a score of a 4 two weeks after i bought the game, since i havent been able to log 2 times in that time. Now, i'd give WoW a 6,5 i think (and no that doesnt mean DnL is better, buti wont repeat myself on that matter)

Second i wasnt attacking anyone, and that i said something twice seems some bug, but hey, if those are signs you can "win" your "debate" with, then by all means feel victorious.
