Not like Auto Assault at all

In  response to Ingvar, claiming that Darkwind is a ripoff of Auto Assault...

If that´s what you think, I guess you clearly weren´t even born in the 1980s, and can therefore be forgiven for not knowing about the Mad Max films or the Car Wars board game. I can assure you that the theme of cars with guns was certainly *not* invented by Auto Assault.

However, if you had bothered to look any closer than this basic theme, you would realise that Darkwind is primarily a turn based sports/resource management game, and therefore totally unlike AA. Everquest is more similar to AA than Darkwind is!

I guess this final point is less important, but since Darkwind and AA were being developed at the same time, it´s not possible that one is a copy of the other.

People stating this is a clone of Auto Assault have absolutely no knowledge of the origin of both games.

Either Auto Assault or Darkwind are based upon the excellent and old boardgame Car Wars from Steve Jackson.

I think both games were developped at the same time. Sam Redfern, lead developper and designer, already made a similar game for the Amiga. So Auto Assault may be a clone of this original game .

Auto Assault certainly ended first, due to the size of the team.

Darkwind is an indie developped game.
