Post Review here 60 day account winners

It's been about a week since a lot of you recieved your free 60 day accounts. I haven't started mine yet, because I resubscribed to CoH for a month before I got my key. So what do you all think of the game after a week?

Thanks.

Great game and some of the friendliest, most helpful people Ive ever had to pleasure to game with. The depth of gameplay avaiable through multiclassing is awesome and the world graphics are spectacular also has some of the greatest ingame music Ive heard. The character models are a little dated(except for dragons They're awesome). The UI is very functional and easy to use. The Crafting game is indepth and can keep you busy and happy forever!
I wish the community was larger as most of the people are highend which leaves new players mostly soloing but its doable solo for the mostpart depending on how yer spec'd.

Shadrak, what level have you made it to? There should be a LOT of lower level players to work with.

I've always found plenty of people to craft or adventure with of my level on either server, currently on Order the less populated (Make sure you're not on BLIGHT!).

My only major complaint there isn't the lack of people, I've found plenty during the main hours I play but that there isn't enough incentive to team with people who aren't highly skilled. Even a moderately skilled player slows down the xp gain so you'd only do it for loot.

Generally, you'll get the best XP by grouping with folks that are in your level range and then hunting things that are about 25% over your level average. Hunting with people who are significantly higher in level is kind of problematic unless it's a purely social activity. XP is restricted by the amount the highest-rating person in the group gets, reduced by how far you are from the average level in the group, and capped at 1/10 of a level per kill. All of this sounds pretty severe, but it is very effective at reducing XP leeching, which used to be a rampant issue.

That's not to say it's not worth hunting with high-levels; it can be a lot of fun for everyone. However, a good group that's level-appropriate and hunting critters that give you a good fight is what will give you the best XP.

I liked the game enough to cancel my free account after 2 weeks and resub my old account I had dropped a few months after release so I could get my old name back.

I enjoyed it quite a bit. Unfortunately, my computer died a few weeks in, and I didn't have everything fixed and re-set-up until my account was near expiration. :/

I hear some good things :) I'm glad you guys are enjoying it. I think now that they've been sold again and David Bowman is not going to have anything to do with the game in a few months i might play it :)

The new owners have no development team, didn't retain any of the critical personnel from Tulga (the one guy they did hire is a writer who worked for Tulga for about a month), and so far as anyoe has been able to tell, sent no technical people to be trained. They are being investigated by three state Attorney Generals for failing to securly store customer billing information and possible wire fraud (billing people without permission and without giving them a means to cancel their subscriptions). I know at least two complaints have been filed with the FTC about them as well.

They won't be able to do even minor bug fixes for months, even assuming they hire a programming team immediatly. They have not worked or responded to service tickets (other than an auto reply email) since they took over. The billing system was working when the game was turned over to them and for over a week afterwards, but suddenly it's broken and their CTO (who apparantly doesn't know how to chmod a directory on a web server) says it's Tulga's fault.

All threads on the community forum mentioning the billing issues or asking for help cancelling are being deleted.

But, woohoo! David Bowman is gone!!

That makes it all better, I suppose?

thing is Horizons was going down before the game was sold. It has failed to make one single penny in profit. It got there via its own merits and the company thats had it for the last 2 some years. Yes it would have been better had Horizons been sold to a company that knows all about developing and running MMO's. I'm sure as well that Chris Baker shopped Horizons around and got no takers other than EII which by all accounts are a few rich guys with money but not talent.

So horizons was either going to be shut down completely or sold to a company like EII. Its to bad that Bowman couldn't have bought it. By all accounts when he was still AE he was making 10G's a month. Guess he saved none of it or had no faith in horizons ability to generate a profit and wasn't willing to sacrifice his own money on the gamble ?

David Bowman was not the primary cause of death for this game.

If you want to blame a single person, blame David Allen for his inability to execute a project. Or blame Scott Blinn for demanding that the game actually get to a playable stage in a reasonable timeframe.

You can, if you like, blame David Bowman for taking on the (rather impossible and impractical) job of trying to reconcile the pile that David Allen left and Scott Blinn demanded. But that's more like shooting the messenger.

I played Horizons on release. Not the worst release I've experienced, but it rates high. The game had a lot of potential that was unfortunately ruined by an early release. Is that Bowman's fault? I don't think so...the people who control the financial drawstrings make the rules in a corporate world.

yeah poor poor david bowman. He took the sins of the hz world upon his shoulders and still got no respect. its everyone elses fault! /sarcasm off

Hopefully DB will never be given the lead in another public venture but if he is and it busts too at least we'll know it wont be his fault again!

    oh.. /sacrasm off again

David Allen's HZ and Bowman's HZ are completely seperate both money wise and time frame wise. Nothing that Bowman ever envisioned could be done because his vaunted evolution engine in the end could'nt cut it. Yes the client was an issue but the servers could never handle a dynamic war.

Horizons was just never that good. Reading about it was always more interesting than playing it.

It's a pretty good beta...oh wait, it's supposed to be finished?!?

Crafting has been fun, multiclassing is good, the server is almost empty [anyone actually PAYING to play this?]... Horizons has held my interest for about 30 days so far, but it just doesn't seem to be a finished game.

I'm running out of quests for my adventuring classes for the most part [repeating the same "kill x number of y Mobs" has gotten rather boring], same with the VERY limited number of crafting quests.  Running all over the empty world to find the correct Mob is rather annoying also <one quest asks me to kill wolves - the only ones I've found are either 10 levels below me - no/little xp and don't count for quest - or 10-40 levels above me - no chance at all>  I love to explore, but not when I have a goal other than satisfying my curiosity <ie a quest>.  Giving locations of the objects of the quests - or at least a "you might try looking around z location" would help.

Crafting is fun but the VERY limited backpack/vault space make it tedious.  I don't mind that resources are scattered, but spending an hour running back and forth from place to place to gather and process components before getting to the final product is annoying.  It can take 2-3 hours to make a batch of 10 potions! [Process sand into vials here, dig minerals there, gather/process essence way over there, discover that you should have done the essence first since you either can't carry it AND the minerals or you have to use a floating disk and move in 6 Million Dollar Man slo-mo - making travel even worse - now you can combine the minerals and the essence here, but have to travel via teleport [without your disk of materials!] to make the next components there, then off to yet another place to combine them!]  After that 2-3 hours, you will have gained a few xp depending on what level you are now grinding - after the first 4-5, it's all grind - and a few finished products.

Cooking is even tougher as the main material, adobe clay, does not seem to be available except as a random Mob drop - I've found one chunk in 30 days...I'd need 70 or so to make ONE food item [or one batch, I don't know, since it ain't gonna happen!]

If it were <$5/mo I would probably subscribe, at $10 or more - no way.
