Is this game for me?

MercurybladeMercuryblade Member Posts: 5

Here's a little about myself, I don't really have alot of time to invest in a online rpg, that's why I quit WOW, it got to the point where I was a high enough level 50ish that the really only fun things to do took 3+ hours. Not to say I don't play games for 3+ sometimes, but especially during the school year, I only have maybe an hour or so of time.

The things that really have drawn me to this game is that unlike most online rpgs it has an actual story, and I've heard great stuff about the community (a huge relief to an ex WOW player like myself). The whole ambience of the game also looks great, and my rig should be able to handle the game just fine.

Basically my question is, as a casual gamer, will I get much out of this game if I am playing in 1-2 hour tops stints?

    Playing completely solo? Probably not.

    -  This game community operates on primarily a European time basis, so there aren't a lot of people around during what are 'normal' US times - not knowing where you're from I am not sure if this is good or bad for you.

    -  Regenning your health/sap/etc. in this game between fights takes *forever* (quite literally, step away from the keyboard forever ) if you are playing solo.  However in a duo, it is very feasable.

Other than that though, especially if you like tradeskilling/harvesting, you can devote small increments of time to this game and see yourself advance.   I believe there is still a free trial, the learning curve isn't bad at all, and the game is beautiful with plenty to do / learn about - just know in advance that solo is somewhat limiting and low level groups are almost non existant.  I played this for a couple of months with my boyfriend, and we enjoyed it alright, but then our schedules got to the point where we couldn't play together and we lost interest after that - solo was not really fun ><

    Gaming? That's not gaming!
That's just people sat 'round in costumes drinking...

Right now is an awesome time to try it out!
They just built an entirely new area for newbies and quite frankly, it rocks!
The new area is very detailed and fun and it's packed with new players and alts of vets.

Also, the new trial is unlimited as far as time goes, and requires no credit card info.
You'll be restricted to the newbie island, but it's a big area and there's tons of quests to do there now to keep you busy and teach you the ropes.

The community is the best of any game that I have played, and I have played every mmorpg to date.

With the trial, you've got nothing to lose except the time it takes to download and patch... definitely worth a look From the sounds of it, I'd bet you'll really enjoy it.

Player made content is right around the corner with the free expansion coming up :)

Thanks for the replies, definatly going to give this a trial run. This game looks much too good to pass up, especially after what happened to dark and light... I was following that game since last year, sad more than anything, but that's another forum topic.

I have been playing the trial for 2 weeks and I absolutely love this game.

I am not a hardcore player at all... I have been splitting my time between COH (mostly because my friends still play that, which is a shame but oh well) and SOR, and I don't find myself unable to enjoy it because I am more "casual" about it. I'm having a good time.

Maybe the 'casual' player will enjoy it longer, as there is so much to discover in Ryzom.

Then again, even the casual player can turn into a powermonster at some time ;)

    Indeed.

I find that I play SoR longer than I intended, and end up staying up way later than I should (those 1 AM bed times kill you when you have to get up at a reasonable hour for work the next morning), and don't even notice the time going by. Just last night I looked at the clock after starting up Ryzom at say 7:30, and it was 10:45... and I said, "What? How the heck is it that late?" It's a battery-operated clock so I actually looked around at the electric one to make sure the battery wasn't dying or something. But no... 3+ hours had gone by and it had felt like about 30 minutes. LOL.

    haha!

I think a lot of ryzom players (or mmo players) will reconize that one!
Just take your time to enjoy it Chessack!

    Yeah, lol

Ryzom is a major contributor to my "why I am late for work" reasoning :)

On one hand, it's a great game for someone on a tight schedule.

On the other hand... it makes me want to play all night :)

OK I'm sold, now I just have to refuse to download this client tonight because I have work tomorrow and that would be a bad thing.

Uh, I know what you mean folks
But hey, sleep is just weak compensation for Coffeé!!!!

Now I´ve only got to find a way to play at work, or work at play...

"Ehm Boss, I realy need that new graphics card in my terminal... You know to test it for the customers... erhm... and yeah a bit more RAM would be cool to, you know to test all those demanding new softwares...
Oh, we don´t sell those? We´re a phone company,... Yeah, OF COURSE I know that Boss, but..."
