Skill Question

donkreeldonkreel Member Posts: 4

I purchased the 'original' GW a few days ago, and am having a great time so far.  I've been trying to get through as many of the quests in the tutorial as I can before moving on to the Academy.  My question is...after receiving my initial primary/secondary skills, am I able to get more while in the tutorial phase or will I have to wait until I move on to the 'real' game?  I've accumulated 7 skill points so far, and would like to use 'em...

Tks...

If you are talking about pre-searing, then there are only a limited number of skills you can get.  All the skills you did not get can be bought right after searing from skill trainers.  You'll get more later on but only some are from quests, all the elite ones you must capture from an enemy boss that uses the skill.

You can reset your skill points in town, so always use them up as soon as you get it.

There is a checklist of things you should've gotten before you move on to the real game.  check out:

You don't need the tapestry shred, all your characters share one storage, so later if you end up needing one, you can just create a new char, bring to post searing real fast after you get the tapestry, and leave it in the storage (will cost you 50 gold to obtain access to storage for each character tho).

Definitely get the extra skill point, and ressurection signet (very useful in PvP).

Also that website contains all the skills and where you can capture/obtain them.

One thing I'd recommend.  Don't buy any skills for the first little bit after going post-searing.  In Ascalon city and the surrounding area there are a lot of quest givers (such as the trainers from pre-searing being still around) that will give you a lot of the basic skills for free. Save the skill points for when you need them, such as when it costs 1 plat and 1 skill credit to get one of the higher and more potent skills.

And if you go from Prophecies to Factions (or vice versa) a lot of the skills duplciate, although there are some great ones on each side.  Just watch what you buy, often it's the exact same skill in Faction and Prophecies just a different name.  That way if you have just one or the other you get the same basic skills, and one campaign isn't better for skills then the other.

What is said in the above post is correct. However, there are a few skills that can only be purchased. If you feel like waiting, you can purchase ever non-elite skill in the game at Emberlight Camp, but that's just about the end of the game.

There are specific towns throughout the game that sell a limited selection of skills (at least before every skill trainer started selling every skill you've already unlocked). I call these places "Skill Towns", and there's at least one in every major area. These towns include: Grenditch Courthouse, Ice Tooth Cave, Beetletun, Maguuma Staad, Fisherman's Haven, and Port Sledge. There's others, but I can't remember their names off hand. Generally, they're close to the third mission in each major area (for instance, Grenditch Courthouse is near Nolani Academy), so if you're feeling a bit adventurous, you can get some hard to get skills a bit earlier on this way. Just a note, though, this is all after the tutorial area.

And, as always, only buy skills you feel you're actually going to need at first. They get expencive later on.
