Hello every1, i have been thinking about starting to play a mmorpg, u probably get this kind of post a lot but, ive read a lot about DAoC, FFXI, Everquest. i'm looking to start a mmorpg asap, i was just wondering which one would be the best, i know theres a lot of new ones coming out soon, but i want one now . ive read a lot of reviews that say everquest has kept everyone busy for a long long time, i was thinking of getting that, but is there anywhere i could buy it in the uk, without having to pay $50 postage from the station. If anyone could gimme any general advice it would be great.

Actually Everquest really has evolved over the years to become a game for Newbies and Oldies alike (although as you did say, it is Endgame slated). Anyway here are some quick thoughts thrown together on a few major titles...
Shadowbane - Enthralling for the hardcore PVPer, pretty solid gameplay.
Neocron/Endless Ages - These FPSMMO's offer a differnt kind of MMO experience. Good for those who favor FPS over RPGs (although still expect heavy RPG elemtns).
Dark Age of Camelot - Fun for the beginner, although notorious for player bases saying there is a lack of social content (i've never seen it, but thats some opinions out there!). Great for Race war PVP, and holds a very unique PVP ranking system.
Freebies - If your just brekaing into MMO, I thoroughly sudgest before buying you check out the mmos in the Free MMO topic at the top of this forum. Download some for free and try them out today!

i gree with regal. A freebie wont get you the full experience of an MMO. im not saying they are all horrible but you would probably like a regular game first.
My first MMoRPG was DAoC(Camelot). It relatively good for learning. I would suggest that you start on an RP(roleplaying) server to avoid the nonsense of the leet haxxors. Start off with a good solid tank that wont require to much $ to play as you learn. after you hit 20 or so you could restart or continue if you liek him, but you have elarned the game and the area.
My first character was a berzerker. They arent to hard to use, but i played mine horribly. my axes were low quality etc. If you would like to start off as a caster type, i would suggest probably a Darkness spec'd runemaster. They get speed and good spells. Other not to complicated casters would be the wizard, and enchanter. enchanter being the hardest at first to elarn ebcause they receive a pet.
In an RP server if you name your character with an "RP" name and start making friends they will help you along. Eventually you get a guild and learn the higher level grounds, and finally PvP. The experience to level up takes quite a while but for a first game it gets you used to fighting styles etc.
I would rate DAoC as an excellant beginners game, but also a game for the advanced player. It was really fun back when i played.
thanx for the advice, ive been looking at DAoC, would u recommend i get any of the expansaions from the begining? or will DAoC standard issue do fine for starting off? also, would it matter if i get a US or UK version, or are they both the same, me living in UK. Thx
I don't know what it was with DAoC but i just wasn't into it. The only thing people did in the game was level until they hit realm versus realm. I could see it being good a while back but i hear from lots of people on that game that over half the people in the game just have 50+ players and do realm versus realm. The quests are horrible and i really dont like them.
Right now i'm playing FFXI and i enjoy it alot. It goes far past levelling. There's chocobos, boats, and skyships. A huge world (that has tons of enviroments) to explore. Not only is there quests, but theres also missions that you can do to achieve fame. The community is great, if you get a friendly linkshell you'll have lots of fun just chatting. Tradeskills are good. Theres events in the game and holidays they set up.
So what i'm trying to say is that it's not just massive leveling system, FFXI is a whole world of things to do, and with it's awesome graphics, you'll want to explore every corner of it
But w/e alot of people like DAoC and it'ss cheap so i guess you could tsart with that.
Hi I usually buy from www.play.com based in Ireland takes 4 days to come to UK.
It usually stocks DAoC and everquest.
If not try game.uk.com or even better dvdboxoffice.com.dvdboxoffice.com is based in canda but it has low prices(many maericans use it too),free worldwide shipment (arrives in UK in like 1 week time or so.i hear folks in london get it in 4 days) and there is no tax on the game since it comes by mail not courier(beware if you buy a game from outside the EU and it comes with courier you get charged tax for it but if by normal mail its free of charge ).
DAoC you need the european edition to play on EU servers (atm i check play.com has them).Advantage is you get more people online at UK prime time(there are english speaking ,fench and german servers),less lag(but if you got broadband not a problem play USA servers).
Disadvantage is worse CSR then the US servers, patches are always 1 or more months behind(they have to translate and for some weird reason would not release english patch until all servers are ready for patch),less servers to choose from.
You cannot use the US version to play europe or the visa versa.
Get the expansions(europe has not gotten the last expansion(ToA) for DAoC yet) more zones to visit and more choice of classes.
Hope that info helped.
