Going Going..Gone.. Horizons the Disaster

The latest event, which took place yesterday, had a sizable force marauding the eastern player cities of Selen, Harro, and Morning Light. An extremely high level mob, a Lietenant of the WA, descended upon the budding towns with small armies and killed everyone they could find...even the level 100 players on the server could not withstand the onslaught. The name of the event was "Losing Ground" and it's in keeping with the ongoing storyline relating to the (impending) liberation of the locked playable Satyr race.

This is the kind of thing that Horizons seems very intent on doing regularly...every two weeks there is a new major event, following which there is new content in various areas in the game. It seems this is how they plan on adding content into the game.

Unfortunately the various problems with the game made it difficult for some (or most) to enjoy the event, specifically in that lag was a factor for many. I look on this as a mixed blessing, in that it's disappointing lag is still an issue but it's very encouraging to see they are staying on course with events and content addition while working through their (for lack of a better term) stability issues.

    It's pretty exciting stuff, nonetheless.

Look at SWG. Of course people want to play a Jedi. Has a Jedi yet been seen in the game?  Why would I buy SWG if I could not be a JEDI. Lets be real the whole purpose of ANY Star Wars games were centered around Jedi. SWG however is not.  ( the Dragon of Horizons is like the Jedi in some respects- Is  all the code really in the game?)  Also let be realistic, Some of us get Bored Damn easily and we will tell everyone we can about it, Just because you didn't like the Matrix doesn't mean others won't.
the same goes for games. Lets be realistic,  usually the problem with other games is TOO MANY people, now with Horizons  we have people complaining because their are TOO FEW.    Maybe horizons should close a few server. AO only had 2 when it started. maybe thats the problem Daoc still only has about 1000 online per server and you can argue the same thing. I hardly see anyone in that game either so people must be quitting it right?  of course it could be the area I'm in, Try looking around. On shadow and Twilight Dalimond always has around 30 people in it as well as many opting for free teleports by binding in starter towns like New Brommell.
As long as they continue to patch and fix known issue I do into see a problem with horizons making it. There are enough people around to keep it going for some time and thats all they need just like AO, and AC2

$4.99 on gamestop and amazon.com for shadowbane been so at least for 1 month probabaly longer not followed the game much since I did my free month.

Jedis are plenty in SWG  or at least the path to jedi has been opened by many.So many that SoE are changing the way it opens because too many have the slot.I had it before I quit few weeks ago but there was loads of problem staying alive hehe.As for the game centered around jedis you have not heard that the community is in a zombie like jedi state then?

In short the problem with SWG is everything is focused to been a jedi.Thats all players are trying to do and the rest part of the game is dying fast.As someone that played the game for over 6 months and now left I say SWG would have been better off without jedis to begin with and stuck to the storyline.

DAoC I think 1000 per server is still good enough for the size of the world.First the game world is not as big as EQ or AO.Second the main event is RvR which is fought in 3 frontiers which are not so massive.Problem many have in levelling in DAoC is the fact a huge majority are all level 50(game is 2 yrs old now) have have been given the command to leve chars on other servers to be instant level30.

So someone buying the game new has few folks to play with because all alts are now mid level and hunting in midlevel areas.

In EQ same thing happens. If you go to the AB server which is even overpopulated  as a newbie you find nowhere to hunt with others because people are powerlelvellng their chars thru the early - mid levels.

Now some games like say AC2 did however lose so many clients that some worlds were reading 80 folks at prime time! But thats what server margers are for.Once a server does not feel like its a mmorpg merge it like AC2 and planetside did.

I was there for AO launch there was 1 server that they claimed could easily hold 100,000 people.Real bull at 50k it was unplayable. So basically i spent my free month in lag hell and ended up hating the game.Easily could have been avoided with having multiple servers and merge the low population ones later.

And I agree horizons will not die soon. There are enough people that like it to keep it going for a long time.

I remember everyone saying shadowbane and AC2 will go down in a few months they are still around.

There are tons of people in the game and loads of them are actually working together to free a lost race.  I have played alot of games and I  haven't seen the teamwork that goes into Horizons every day.  There are adventurers that are killing the mobs at the entrance of certain mines so that crafters can work on the mine to help free the lost races.  Without everyone working together, there would be no way to complete these projects.

It's not hard sending monster to a new home spot which just happens to be the centre of a town. Now what is the real problem, Horizons doesn't have dungeons, so expect these events to be the best of it.

Like you said, LAG was a problem. If you read the official forums, many cancelled the game subscription due to the event. Alot died _repeatedly_ due to less than 5 fps lag and players having near to no control over their death. In no game should you die without a mean to survive, that is what a game is, a challenge.

With the game taking hours to give experience or put items in your back pack, this game is a massive nightmare. Some have said that the latest event was to kill off some resource areas to help the game's database lag, also to do something that doesn't need real programming or artists, which AE is having major trouble with.

Only expect happenings in this game that are of the simplest means possible, example patch, we change the stats.. we changed the colour.. we are doing an event where npcs are in different locations.. SAD... but true of mst that has happened since release.

BTW, think before you give your credit card details as the so called free trial may not only risk your credit account but players that have cancelled are saying their details are being used for JUNK mail.

I think horizons will do ok not a smash hit like EQ or DAoC but ok.

Remember the european/North american market is filled with mmorpg and many more coming.New folks to mmorpg are coming in a lot but certainly not as much as mmorpg are coming out.

Thank god it doesn't have PvP...makes the game 100x better without it.

Played Horizons for about a month or two and lost interest after that for a few reasons...

1- character progression seemed to go along a fixed path sure i could change professions whenever i wanted wich was nice but you have no control over your characters stats so it's kind of hard to feel involved in your character when everyone else with the same race and profession is well ...exactly the same as you.

2-character animations were kind of lame ..i expected a lot better, thought they did do a nice job on some of their enviroments.

3-NO pvp..yea yea yea i know not everyone likes pvp but i personaly find it a little difficult to grind through a 100+ lvls without having anything but retarded monster AI to look forward too.

hopefully the mmo's slated to be released this year will make up for the money i wasted on SWG and horizons and shadowbane and.....

While i think horizons could become a great game i honestly dont think it will ever be a smash hit, its not the bugs or even the lack of support or feedback from the devs that makes me think this, its more to do with the lack of real progress made since release.

I had hoped for a bit more when i bought it but i dont have the desire to wait a year or so for the game to have that amazing crafting system or the cool dynamic world we were told about on the website image

How about the fact that today, a major non-player run city (Aughundell) fell to the WA. Does that sound like progress?

Damn, wish I knew they were gonna do a free trial  before I shelled out the $29.00, I found out in less than 5 days that the game sucked

You can't download the game for free. Free trial only works if you have a friend that can install it for you.

First of all I play horizons and I am writing here to tell you about why I kinda like the game. Well I agree this game will never be as big or as popular as the main stayers in mmo's everquest etc. This is because it is mainly focused on crafting and the problem I find with a crafting game is the fact you need to dedicate alot of time to the game which is alot more than what people want or need. I like it as a back burner mmo one to compliment SWG and Eve Online. image

I have to say I am hating the fact of the slagging of SWG is getting from people on this forum. The jedi are not as people seem to say on here, overrrunning the servers. The reason they are changing it is because its too hard to earn jedi and the fear now is that it will be become far too easy to earn jedi.

And no I do realize that SWG Has flaws.

Really?  I played the whole 30 days free trial after I gave in and bought Horizons just before christmas.  I enjoyed it.  I joined a guild, tried crafting, adventuring, and exploring.  It was really not that bad.  I currently play SWG, and it is a totally different game.  I appreciate the differences in these types of games, I don't want to see the same old game redone with a different name.  I still have my Horizons account active, but I never play anymore.  Now I am actually paying for it, too.  I was going to cancel, but I often go back to my old MMORPG's and play again.  After paying $50 for the boxed game, you mean to say I won't be able to go back at a later date and play Horizons again after cancelling my account?  Maybe you mean my characters will be erased, I know there is a population/item storage type of problem . . .  Please someone clear this up for me before I cancel!
