She may like Puzzle Pirates. Its simple enough that kids can enjoy it and has enough depth so that adults like it as well. I would guess the population is about 50/50 adults/kids.
ROSE online and FLYFF have a fairly younger community so it may be easier for her to find friends her age on there, and despite what people say WoW is NOT for young people. KEEP HER FAR AWAY FROM WOW!

Disneys toon town.personally i would never let any child of mine play a mmo till they were at least 17.kids need to be focused more on important things then getting to the next level in a mmo.

I'm looking for an interesting "safe" game for my 12 yo daughter -- ??
Take my advice: wait at least another 2~3 years. Toontown is a great mmo for kids of age 7~10, but there really isn't an mmo suited for 10~14. I say wait till she's at least 14-15 and start an MMO then. she's too young for a real pay to play MMORPG,because mostly adults play it, unless you want her in an mmorpg world full of boys that will try to have cybersex with her, a free mmorpg isn't the best answer either.

...you never played a free mmorpg, did you?
Boys tried to have cybersex with you in free MMORPGs?
I would recommend picking one of mainstream games and playing it together. That way, she can have a decent game to play and you can keep an eye on who she's talking to and what she's doing. It might even be fun for both of you. That worked for us around here, anyway. *shrug*

Create a female toon in games like guilds wars or other free to play mmorpg´s. play that for a couple of weeks, and then come prove me wrong. there are so many disgusting things going on there.

Every game is almost kid-friendly (as long as u dont use chat) but other than that wherever u go there r adults, (sad that adults just CANT GROW UP) Look Maple story, silkroadonline( it isn't extremely moderated lol i bet HALO is better moderated than it, no breaking rule enforcement, lol they can list the people they ban from the game it hardly made half a page from the thousands of botters and all those servers, runescape (it is extremely moderated, has more moderators than players nowadays lol) and many of those disney games, but other than that most MMORPGs aren't really dirty(if u were to look at the content of the game itself) other than that nothing bad really and most r suitable for ur age

I second that. Easy to get into and the community is on the friendly side for the most part. I'd avoid any free to play games for a few years, for reason(s) mentioned by others. And the suggestion to play a MMORPG with her is a great idea if you have two available computers. Would allow you two to bond and her to experience the MMO world in a supervised environment.

Ya, I've done that bfor in many games...and not many people try to cyber with me...accually no one did.
The Saga of Ryzom should be safe enough. The community is exceptionally mature overall and there is a high level of moderation. It's an open ended game though, so basically a sandbox with relatively few guiding elements. Might be a bit overwhelming for someone her age. But they have a very good trial, it's worth a look. Just remember that after the starter isle, which is also the trial area, there are no more quests to speak of. so judge the game on your ability to enjoy it outside the quests. I also wouldn't recommend WOW. It's community is a pretty fair crossection of the world. Most people are ok, but ther's a fair share of pubescant boys who will hump any player that admits to being female. It was shocking at times to look over my girlfriends shoulder while she was playing. All in all be sure to try out the games with a female avatar, and just pose as a twelve year old girl if someone asks. The reactions are quite different from playing a male toon, or mentioning being male should the subject arise.

I think you might find A Tale in the Desert to be a fairly safe community. Mostly adults in there, but it's a game for builders and thinkers.

On Canada's day I can't help but say...did you look at Maple story?
I don't know the game at all, look like kid-friendly enough from a distance.

How smart is she? Does she require sheltering and coddling?
When I was twelve I would've been fine with any MMORPG.

Some people in free MMOs will try to have cybersex with anything that moves. And some things that don't, I'm sure.
