Well, I have played it for a little while now. It was very early morning so it was too dark to see much. I walked around and found the 5 trees that are near Corstopitum (the Roman town). I havn't found any animals yet. They were supposed to be in now. Unfortunately, I put all my starting skill in animal handling lol.
The server was not too laggy I was at about 160ms the whole time. I live in MO, US so I am a pretty good distance from the UK where RB is. Though there are some problems with people logging out. Their character isn't disappearing and it IS supposed to. Also, the server is not tracking us all the time which was making it hard to talk to the master to get a quest and to use some items. I never really lagged out or anything though.
The graphics look the same and only the land around the river seems to have changed. It now is very...wierd looking around the river.
The combat, though I have not tryed it after launch, was pretty much just RYL:PotE except you didn't have any special attacks. Or the new SWG without special attacks. It does matter where you hit them except the movement is so slow it isn't difficult to aim at their head or whereever you want to hit them. I don't think there were any plans to change it so I expect it is the same. Also, I do not know if your off hand attacks and ranged attacks are usuable yet because they weren't in gamma or beta.
The world seems mostly empty as it did in gamma and beta but, maybe that is just the way the world is in southeast Caledonia. The landscapes are supposed to be fairly accurate so I assume that Caledonia is mostly just grasslands.
The world is empty because we are meant to fill it up with loads of construction and the such. It will be nice having our own workshops and the such, being able to rent places will be fun aswell.
The reason there are 100s of crafitng skills available to us is because we are meant to cover the world with structures and buildings and the such. When the time finally comes and NPCs are more in the player's control the world will also populate itself, and add an interesting persistent reality to the gameworld. If you didn't know, its very possible to make a player made village, when RB finally open more buildable structures to us. Anyway, the first day is over, and its been quite displeasing because of sever issues and a memory leak, but as I am writing this, KFR (the lead dev) is still awake and has just taken down the server for a quick fix. Its 12:30 am and he's still awake. Last night he was awake all night preparing the client for us. He's been providing customer care non stop all day today, aswell, and is really doing his best to get things right.
The extra features are comming, but obviously we are waiting on the fixes that will arrange the more serious troubles we have at the moment.
Its also been mentioned by RB staff that speedgrass or whatever it is to provide RB with vegetation is right around the corner. Probably on a different copy of the gameworld, they are adding the vegetation.
Anyway I after the serious issues have been solved, I will be very satisfied with the game, because I've had fun playing it even in beta. There is always something to do, always a skill/stat or a bunch of skills to improve....always something to work for.
Roma Victor isn't a game for everyone, but to many people like myself, it has a place with us.
Thanks for the reviews and keep them coming. This is still one of those games I am on the fence about. Is it completely historically accurate, i.e. could you be a female gladiator? Only one character per account? Which Emperor is sitting at this time?

By the looks of it on the forums, one character per account.
Emperor is Commodus although I doubt he'll be in the arena.
Don't know about female gladiators but most likely yes. I say that because there is no definitive yes or no historically, and actual historians argue about it with the little bit of info they have found (that beat up Roman woman they found in England with the expensive carving of two female gladiators)

Yep, one character per account.
The reigning emperor is Commodus, who is played by the lead dev.

You can delete it and remake another if you want.
This is the participant Wiki (not sure you can get in if you aren't logged in to the RV forums, but you can try).
Some of the stuff still needs to be copied over from the beta wiki, but if you didn't preorder you can't play for two weeks anyway...so I think you can wait on that.

Actually i am looking for the delete button myself to remake my character and not found it.
Unless you're wanting a new character to get a different look, or change from roman to freeman (or vice versa) there really is no need to /restart your character.
this isn't like SWG or WoW where once you pick a class you're stuck in that class forever. if you start as a Roman and put all your skills in Animal Handling, like a previous poster mentioned, and later decide you want to farm, all you do is learn Farming from someone and stop with the Animal Handling.
skills decay over time and increase with use. so the animal handling would eventually drop to a '1' and as you farmed, your farming skill increases.
I have high hopes for this game and well at this second its not showing me why... but it can only get better and it is a GREAT idea i hope they do it right in the end..

Well i think the 2 weeks before others get in should help them identify problems and work on them. The game has great potential but i think we seen so many with great potentials fall by .
top issues should be
1)memory leak. This game got plenty of it.2gb gets eaten in 30 mins and yet to see anyone that does not have this issue .Those on lower RAm like 1gb are lucky to get 15 mins before the game goes to a serious slide show.
2)the attending. Its totally boring and huge waste of time. This part alone makes me rate it as the most boring first days in any mmorpg i played.Considering you can do nothing else till you are done with this it makes it worse. At least in other mmorpg which have boring starts like eve you can actually choose to say "heck with it" and take your chances. Not so here. You got to spent them hours gathering wood.
3)a proper online maunal. Thanks to the helpful community i got some answers because you are not gonna get it from the web and even the wiki is sort of not user friendly.
4)looong crafting time. The actual placement of an object is fast but the total process is a huge pain and that makes it unintresting.
Now here is a scenario,a small clay pile(thats right not even a hut) takes about 1hr+(if you are fast) to make. This is needed for the dum dum attending quest(again i say this as of now you must do them!).
Ok fair enough even if you decide ok i am coming home today and will do nothing in this game but build an insignifcant pile because my master demands it and though its horribly boring i like pain here is the catch 22.
How do you stay online for 1 hr+ when in 30 mins(if you got 2gb+ ram) you cannot move to gather the resources?
For me this are the 4 major issues that need immediate attention .There are still quite a few but this 4 are the ones i found most fustrating.
Atm the moment its not an unfair statement to say the game is indeed unplayable and when you can play you are stuck doing fustrating and boring tasks which gets more fustrating as when you reboot due to memory leak it has collapsed .
Of course i cannot even comment about the combat as like many others i am still trying to bring myself to continue with the master quests without falling asleep.Heck i have not even explored yet to that matter.
Thanks Hercules and everyone else that posted their comments on the game so far. I am still interested in trying RV. I suppose it won't be in my local Gamestop. I will check the offical site for download. I'll try to be in-game tonight, with the character named Tymora. I will need help . . . I am a total newbie, having not played any of the beta at all.
The game doesn't appear to be available to the general public yet . . . only pre-orders are playing? This is not the official launch then, is it? On the website it says that the servers that pre-order customers will be on are not the final game servers that will be out at launch. So the official launch is in 2 weeks?
If anyone knows more about how I can get the game and play, I would appreciate some guidance, thanks.
