Voice chat (and some other things) killed it for me...

Besides the level cap (soon to be raised to 12~) and how easy it is to get to level 8 in one week- the voice chat killed it for me.  I really really dont like it when peoples mother/girlfriend/dog is barking at them- it really ruins the immursion.  Plus grouping with 10 year old kids who wont shadup- is really a pain.

This game really should not even be a MMO-  there is no real /ooc chat or zone chat-  there is no bazaar for trading (I know the tent-but people are never there).  There is only ONE city to explore- no world at all- its all missions.  You see a guy in the inn and he sends you to his basement to kill a dragon- type quests.  You start at the same place with all your toons and absolutly do the same missions over.  The dungeons are great - the first time around- but there are no random traps or monsters- so, once you have done the dungeon its the same everytime.  Which leads to mass- zerging.

I will give them credit tho for some good combat- fighters are fun! they can be super shield tanks and taunt (intimidate) everything and never take dmg just absorb the hits- or two handed slayers that can attack on the run w/o penalty-  you gan positional bonuses when attacking from the side and back- and the same goes for mobs attacking you.

Clerics are great but they are basicly buffers ( before you rest at a shrine ) and emergency healers-  I never used another heal besides cure light because it was healing for 35 hp- for 10-13 spell points.  Clerics use wands to heal because you just dont have enough spell points to heal enough between shrines to rest.  And, wands are expensive 800g- so clerics are akin to the peridot in eq- but more expensive.

Anyways, there is my rant-  I like the game but will not be buying it- why would I- when you can play for 7 days free and almost get the level cap-

Hmm I've run a cleric for a bit and never had the problem  you're talking about.  I always had plenty of power to both buff and heal the group.  At higher levels your buffs, even bless, last a long ass time (15+ minutes).  And most are AOE so you only have to toss em once to get the whole group...

As for spells yeah cure light is ok till higher level but after about 5th you REALLY don't want to be using cure light because there are mobs that will hit for more than it can heal.  Most clerics use wands only as a backup to spell points.  I know I did with mine.  My biggest reason I don't like clerics is it's just a boring class (in every MMORPG I've ever played).  I just don't enjoy the passivity of the cleric class.

I have a kind of love/hate relationship with voice chat.  In guild groups I love it... in pugs sometimes I like it and others I hate it.  Overall I think it works out well... it's certainly necessary with the fast pace combat in DDO has.

Most are AoE?  Bless is AoE and... I know theres one more but i cant recall. oh yea- Prayer but thats castable only in fights.  My level 8 cleric- in the missions she was doing needed resist spells fire etc. and tanks like bulls strength and Aid is great plus prot evil is req for charms/holds, Armors for more defections.  They are all single cast.  When you fighting the firegiants in storm cleave (or whatever)  you must have all your SP for those big fights- cause you will be spamming - CLW/WAND/CLW/WAND- back and forth.

I'll have to disagree with you on this point- your cure light wounds- is the fastest casting most mana efficent heal- period- this could change at level ten with the level 10 enhancement. But, up until that point with  greater devotion enhancments (level 1 or 2) and and item with devotion and your meta heal feat you are getting plus 56%-70% bonus to CLW- add the enhancment that reduces the cost of your feat-  you can get ratios with CLW that are cost 12-13 sp for 35 hp's or more.

Players demand voice chat, that's why Turbine added it. You can't blame them for that. If Turbine didn't add it, people would just join guilds that had vent anyway (actually my guild had a preference for using vent, because it was more stable than the in-game voice chat).

I agree with you that voice chat is but most people like it, so we're stuck with it.
