It's not an easy game if you don't deposit $15 a month. Even then it's not WoW easy.
It used to be that sweating was limited. It now has no skill cap and you can sweat mobs and sell the sweat all day long. It's boring and tedious. I wouldn't do it but there are those that have never deposited money.
The best gun for your money is sold on the Trade terminal and it's cheap. It also offers learning bonuses that make your skills go up faster.
The game gets better as it goes along but i wouldn't try playing it for free. EU is not a free game. It's a game that doesn't have a monthly fee. There's a huge difference.
The game's graphics are getting a bit outdated. They remind me of EQ old world but the community seems to be getting better lately. I play it and i have fun. I guess thats the point isn't it. It's not the greatest game ever and only about 2% of players actually make money on it. So don't get your hopes up.

You can make money. I have now 10x more than what i`ve deposited so this means you can and I assure you there are more ppl out there that profit. The percentage is more like 30% not 2%.
This game is not worth anyones time or money. The game engine seems ancient, the graphics (despite all the updates they seem to do) are terrible. The loot system is unfair at best. The company, MindArk, always changes things to keep them making money and you losing money.
The one thing that was fun about the game was the people in game, most are really nice and lots of fun to do things with, even the uber players.
Also I like that only low post/new accounts think this "game" is good, someone's alts maybe? I have yet to read any arguments to why it is "fun", only the money part is always mentioned.
This game is not gambling at all if you use equiptment tailored for your skill lvl. You pay a small cost/hr in lost ammo to hunt and there is a chance you can "globlal" and make profit for that hunt if you stay on monsters for your skill lvl. However if you use equiptment to advanced for you then you or hunt things out of your range you will pay a small fortune to play. This seems to be what most morons do becuase they want to be the next big high lvl player. It costs them a fortune and then they go wining like little girls. Just play at your skill lvl meet some ppl and have fun.
This game packs more gameplay elements together than any other.
The skill system is different from most of the others, there are no experience points to distribute.
With an huge skill tree. 127 different skills distributed over 12 skill categories
You get skills on what you skill on!!
When you fire a laser rifle you get skills related to that activity.
The skills allow you to improve your efficiency when using different weapons/tools/whatever, some need more or less skills to be used efficiently.
EU's skill system is different from what you have ever seen.
Also there are more "real" professions than in any other game, some linked to the skill system while others not:

Plus you have lots of tools to use on your profession, lots of fields where to specialize in.
Hunters can specialize in Laser/BLP/Gauss/Plasma weaponry and inside this categories they can choose between Handguns/Carbines/Rifles/Cannons.
And the Melee users can choose between Powerfists/LongBlades/ShortBlades/Clubs/Whips/Axes
And you can also use Mindforce (an advanced development of mind powers) to fight/teleport (individual or large groups)/heal/revive!
Crafters can specialize in different fields Weapons/Armors/Tools/Attachments/Mechanics/Metal/Electronics/Furniture/...
You have both an FPS interface and a traditional RPG point and click interface!!

And where you can also withdraw your ingame funds i an easy (but not speedy) way to your bank account and through an ATM card (instant withdraw) at a fixed rate of $1 per 10 PED. Conclusion:
Eu besides being an awesome game is a virtual reality where you can hang out with friends and meet new ones.
Has an awesome community.
And has a Real cash economy which potentiates your time spent in game $ wise.
EU is always in development and ~8-9 times per year some major content is added, upgrades are performed, etc.
Several in world events. Either in the storyline or player created.
And it is true that depending of your play style it can be more expensive that a normal subscription based game!
But if you pack big bucks you can be instant uber.
Also it provides a tough challenge that will keep you entertained for a long time (and i am speaking of years). Unless you have the $ and skip the loads of fun you get while skilling up.
Also no skill caps, etc,etc i am getting tired.
If you fail to understand the game you will think it is crap, mostly if you are short sighted and can't put much thought in it.
You will be disappointed if you are thinking about doing easy money, because although it provides unlimited income opportunities, you wont be successful unless you have a good business idea, good organization and time and/or money to invest.
EU is all this plus many other stuff that i am forgetting and that you have to try out for yourself.
Trying is free (although this game can be considered to have an "unlimited trial", there is no trial btw, you have access to all the features without depositing, although it might be is harder)

Indeed a nice post Cougar but Im in writing mood if u exuse me . I repeat some I guess
The reason there has been a recent increase in Eu/PE players on this forum is that this plac was mentioned in a thread on a EU community forum. Player run forum I might add. Aprox 12k regged users and 600k posts. http://www.entropiaforum.com/
Im new to this place and I write my first post here on EU section since, well its the first game that has cought my intrest for a long period, I also found the information about this home page through a EU forum. I ahve been playing EU/PE for almost two years now with a average of 30 hours a week Scary to just think about the time I have spent online in PE/EU, but I have enjoyed it most of the time. So even though this is my first post I will share my wiew on Eu and hopefully it will awnswer why its good. Or more correct why I think its good.
First I must agree on ur statement its not a game, at least not the type of game we think of when we say the word game. I cant agree when u say its pure gambling though. That statement can be twisted in any way. I could say; EU is like poker with real cash, other games is like poker with play money...
In a big part of EU professions is luck a important factor but there are also equal amount of "no luck at all" professions available. + Luck it self doesnt make something gamble. A majority of all available games have a luck factor involved in the game play.
So what makes EU fun for me. I dont know about other ppl.
The Community is by far the best I have ever seen and the average age might play a role in this(qualified guess is that the average age is around 30 year). Im not saying young players are less capable in any way, Im just saying that the functionality of the community is more stable and mature than I have seen in other games.
Money is also a important factor, and positive as I see it, it makes u more engaged in ur own development. Its also inovative. There is no need to spend more money on EU than u need to do in order to play a fee per month based game. As to the money making part of the Eu, its there but u cant play EU like another game if u want to make money. That require skill.
The variation. U have a lot of choices in eu. Hunter, crafter, miner, event promoter, decorater, tailor, barber, body sculptor, trader of some kind like shop owner, ticketseller, ore trader, weaps trader etc etc ; landowner, sweeter, forum (some are more involved in the forum than in eu), pilot, pker, advanced chatter, explorer, advertiser, signature maker. Its growing, new stuff arrive all the time. Next thing is banks. My personal opionion is that this variation doesnt exist in any of the other online games I have tried. I get bored there because no new challenges arrive.
No necessary to be done quests. I hate quests with passion. I never do them in games that have quests. U could say Eu has some quests though but they are more big scale ones and not that good either.
It doesnt give me a constant positive feeling. Sometime Im pissed when I play EU, sometime Im happy. To much of one is just boring. Ahh I know that was kinda vague.
Parts I dislike with EU. Dont trust something that lack flaws.
Unsolved bugs. There are a bit to many of them.
Eu support isnt the best.
The general hostility against Eu that acctually exist.
Weapon design, many of them are just just to ugly.
Any idiot can critizise but few idiots can critizise well or with style
What can I say after reading Cougar's post? Not much, i fully agree with everything he said.
I have met many people that truly think EU is horrible, a scam, rip-off, casino, waste of time, and every one of them made the same fatal mistake. they all seemed to think that they could make a load of money in a short time with no effort.
Is the game free? yes it is, it costs absolutely nothing to play!
Is it some sort of scam to steal money from you? NO, it is free and noone is forcing you to spend even one dime.
EU is what you make it, you can play it like a casion, throwing hundreds or thousands of dollars at it hoping to hit the jackpot. Anyone who has ever been to a real casino know the odds...your choice.
You can choose to spend 10-15 dollars per month and enjoy your time there without trying to chase an ever eluding profit.
It is wrong to try to label EU, it is what you make it. Love it or hate it.
I say try it, if you like it good, if not then move on. No one game can appeal to everyone. I personally have a problem with elves...
The game is desined for you to spend money. You know that the company has made a nice bundle from this game. Yet, they cannot upgrade to modern graphics that any $15 a month, or even free-to-play, game can accomplish? Please.
Graphics = dated beyond belief.
GUI = the most non-user friendly design they could possibly think of.
AI = kindergardner with a headcold intelligence level.
Some idiots will spend 100's of thousands of real dollars to buy "property" that will be gone with a server crash, or when the "devs" finally run away and close up shop?!?
No thanks, I'll stick to "real" games that give quality entertainment. You guys have fun with you "Universe". lmao.
As to the money making part of games. Hello. Its just different ways of making money for different games.
As to the "need of spending money to advance games" currently appearing on the market EU/PE is different in the sense that the money u have online acctually is the real money u have deposited. Not a virtual currency u never can get back. Best explained even though i hate the comparission since it isnt telling the whole truth we could say EU is a MMORG with online poker economy. Deposit, play, witchdraw or if u prefer deposit, deposit, deposit, broke and give up . Depnds on ur game play.
When it comes to grafic Im probably the wrong person to give my opinion. I seldom judge a game by grafic. My opinion is that; well it works for me except thoose damn ugly weapons. In the past I always played the outdated strategy games who hardly had any grafic worth mentioning. I could enjoy really ugly games if the feeling was right. So about Eu grafics, hmm I say its good enough, the grafic isnt the game.
Now to the thing that I belive is the acctual question here.
Its intresting this happen, ppl react strong against PE/EU, on many of the forums outside the EU community. I dont see it happen with a lot of other games. The question is why? Why this constant questioning whether the game is good or not ?
As I see it there are two possible ways people see at EU/PE. They look at the game and make up their mind.
1. The Pioneers!
Many innovative ideas are looked at with disbelief and suspicion when they are intruduced. EU is met with a similar reaction. It usally take a lot of time for the ideas to develop but if they do it with success they create changes. In this case the gaming industry would be the affected part and we (the players) would most likely see many similar rc virtual worlds pop up.
We know the drill. First its the end of the world wiew towards the new thing and after a period more and more people accept the changes and adapt their way of "game-"life after them. Every time something new pop up there are a few that see the opportunitys and a majority that deny the possibilitys. The standard conservative approach is something we all know well, we usally join it with a big smile and righteuss mind, but sometime we are there, the first ones.
The thing is that only future will tell what happens with EU. If success, I dont see it as impossible that we will see a great number of real cash online virtual worlds available a few years from now. Then EU might reach a status level similar to Ultimas.
2. The fools!
The whole thing with real cash virtual worlds is a turn off at first look. I must agree, I hesitated when I first encounterd PE/EU but I thought; what the hell I give it a chance. Still real moeny in a game just seem wrong. Its a gut feeling. Who knows, perhaps I schould have trusted that feeling and stayed away from PE/EU. The future might tell me that a virtiual world isnt able to hold a real cash economy in long term. The game might turn into a disaster and frighten future developers and players to go down the same road.. If so, I was the fool who thought I saw great possibilitys when only dissapointment awaited me ahead. Many might see it this way and I cant blaim them. Its a possible future scenario.
Games that was said to be revolutionary have appeared before and they have dissapeared as well. Some of them are buried deep...
3. So what do I think?
It might go both ways but Im aware of that and I enjoy EU a lot. If it crashes I havent spent/invested more than I can afford to loose, so that wont bother me. If it becomes a great success I will continue to have a great time + I might earn a lot meanwhile. Future will tell and while I wait, I will try to make the best of it and continue playing my beloved PE/EU.

Yes totally agreed with the only thing that keeps this turkey going is the simple fact this is not MMORPG this is GAMBLING .

No company works for free, you know?
The "game" is in development since late 99, and the gfx engine has been updated some times and the latest has received nice updates.
Do you reckon the effort needed to implement a new gfx engine on a "game" of this size?
Btw looking at your sig, do you want to put EU side by side with any of those games and let me laugh, a lot?
Even Dark and Light which was launched on 2006 has crappier gfx than EU!
One thing you don't get, is that MindArk develop and improve EU, and have intentions of running it for the decades to come, that's why they have upgraded the gfx engine several times (and will keep doing it), while most of the other games just die and the developers don't even care about updating it.
About the GUI, i don't know what you mean with that, as i when i started i found it easy to use.
About the AI, it is not inferior to the AI of any other MMORPG. (also don't forget that Hunting is only a part of the gaming experience in EU, while in other games it is all the gaming experience you will ever get).
About your "retro" way of facing a Real Cash Economy, you mustn't have seen the latest news about virtual worlds!
The boundaries between RL and VR are becoming smaller, i fully trust in MA because i know the rules of the game and i understand how it works.
Thing you don't seems to do.
I don't believe on your way of thinking tbh, next time you are scammed while buying a virtual sword through paypal for a virtual universe that will disappear in 3 years, don't come here whining.
And what do you think about people who buy a virtual house or apartment or give 5k$ for a virtual castle, or 50$ for some virtual jeans? You must think those are retards, not?

Nope, I wouldn't. I gave my personal opinion of the way I see EU. As far as I know, people are throwing there money away of their own free will for this "game". The games listed in my sig did not get one cent from me, however that does not mean that I don't have the right to call 'em out when they are screwing over the rest of the community. You are the one making comparisons between the games in my sig and EU, not me. I never said MA was screwing people.
Even Dark and Light which was launched on 2006 has crappier gfx than EU!
I'll agree. I guess that means since a game which thrives on people using their real money to play effectively doesn't have the worst graphics, it's okay if it doesn't have graphics anywhere over the mediocre line. My bad.
One thing you don't get, is that MindArk develop and improve EU, and have intentions of running it for the decades to come, that's why they have upgraded the gfx engine several times (and will keep doing it), while most of the other games just die and the developers don't even care about updating it.

I don't use Paypal, Click-n-Buy, or any other such service. I don't buy "virtual" property, as I think it's pretty much a waste for something that can be gone tomorrow with no guarantees. I also don't use item shops in games. So, don't worry about me whining.
And what do you think about people who buy a virtual house or apartment or give 5k$ for a virtual castle, or 50$ for some virtual jeans? You must think those are retards, not?
I don't know about calling 'em retards exactly, but I would question their sanity and good judgement. And yes, I will say that someone willing to spend thousands in a "virtual world" fits my personal view of idiocy.
Also EU is not a game, it "is more than a game". Please, by all means, enjoy your "game". People have their own opinions. Now we both know each others.

So all new who read this Post: just ignore Thogan
need I say more?
Evryone should try it.
What most people don't seem to realize is that not everyone can win in this game....

I haven't played the game very long only about 4 months and in comparison to most others in there that is no time at all.
EU is a lifestyle change. It is an adjustment of attitude. It is all down to expectation.
If you expect to have to work at this game, be nice to people and willing to help then you will go a long way and survive.
If you expect to make money within seconds of logging in, go on massive quests that have a finality to them then you will crash and burn.
This is a virtual world so expect it to be just as tough as the real world. This game is not for the weak.
Its a great game,
Specialy the community factor in this game is real great.
Cheers
Graphics = dated beyond belief.
You guys have fun with you "Universe". lmao.

And Horizons from 2003, lol.
And lets not speak about the games themselves.
Also EU is not a game, it "is more than a game".
Erm yes it's more than a game..... It's a disguised casino.
Yes 50 USD for virtual jeans is I'm afraid a bit retarded, I mean can't you buy real ones for that?
However more a game than 2nd life - but then again thats a real Virtual economy.

I'll agree. I guess that means since a game which thrives on people using their real money to play effectively doesn't have the worst graphics, it's okay if it doesn't have graphics anywhere over the mediocre line. My bad.
