World of Warcraft - A Mess of a "Game"

gnomexxxgnomexxx Member Posts: 2,920
There are so many other games out there that kick WoW's butt.

Even the older ones that came before it are better.  Which is understandable since WoW stole every single idea that they came up with.

The PvP is horrible.  MMORPG capture the flag?  I mean, c'mon!!!!  How is that role playing?  Or even slightly believable?
"Oh, look they stole our flag Horde's!  Let's go get theirs so they don't get any points!"
Purely laughable.

And the graphics.  Woohoo!!! It's cartoon time.
Oh, but you can't criticize those graphics because they are hand drawn (ahhhh) and they fit the game perfectly (oooooh).  B.S.!!!  I don't care if they are hand drawn, they suck.  And they don't fit anything except on my television screen on Saturday morning when my kids wake up.  And how many polygons per character were they allowed during development?  20?

And the sound.  Anyone that has played Everquest II will tell you about sound being awesome in a game.  Just the voice overs alone in EQ2 make it a better game than WoW.  But EQ2 goes even further from there to finish off the kick over the cliff.

"But Gnomexxx, 6.5 million people doing the same thing can't be wrong."
LOL!!!!!  Okay, good point.  NOT!!!

"It's good for the casual gamer Gnomexxx."
Oh really?!?!?  You've got to be pretty casual and laid back to put up with what they give you after you hit 60.  BORING...

Oh, and btw, it's taken over 2 years for the expansion to even thought about being done.  It will actually be 3 when it comes out I think.  And look at what they've worked so hard to give you.  Some new lands to explore while looking at a new characters butt.  Oh, and you get to shove some jewels into some socketed weapons.  Very original.  Did they come up with that on their own?

If you are thinking of buying this game, I would recommend NO!!!  I have had so many friends that have bought it and played it and now wish they had their time back they invested in it to put into another game that they can still get something out of.

Saga of Ryzom
Everquest II
FFXI
EVE Online
COx
DAoC
Even the older games  EQ, AC, AO, and others...

If you are a really into playing an MMO with depth, meaning, and a GOOD community then do not waste your time and money on this game.  It's not an MMO so much as an arcade style game that is online is all.

Its Diablo with Warcraft skins and scenery.

You have level up in one area, move to the next, level up, get the next set of equipment, etc...

They are coming out with socketed items for crying out loud!

Don't be terrorized! You're more likely to die of a car accident, drowning, fire, or murder! More people die every year from prescription drugs than terrorism LOL!

I usually can't help but buy expansions when they come out, but you're right.  This is one I totally am not going to be tempted to get.  I have a very strong feeling about that.

I just can't handle WoW anymore.  I've never been so burned out on a game in my life.  I would be more excited to pick up pong again.  Seriously.  I think pong has more strategy and skill than that game.  And a much better community.

I mean, they barely have any classes offered to you now, and the ones they have are stereotypes of other games.  Then they wait three years to offer up an expansion, and no new classes?!?!?!?  Weak.

Really? Cause I played over 1000 hours of WoW (xfire came mid-way through my WoW game) and got two characters to level 60, did a crapton of raiding and pvping.  I only played so long because my friends kept playing.

Let me let you in on a little secret, it's not just EQ2 people that dislike the game.

    Cheers.

I don't even play EQ2 right now.  LOL.   And, oh yeah I'm jealous of a game.

I get jealous of my buddy playing better golf than me.  I get jealous of someone scoring higher on a test in school.  I do not get jealous over something that I didn't even create or have no control over.   That takes a lot brains to figure out.  Maybe you get jealous over a game, because you have nothing else that you can call your own.

Just another failed attempt by a WoW fanboi at analyzing something.  I guess that's why you play a very simple game.

I agree, this is worth replying too :) I assume you meant this thread was worth replying to since the others were not and you replied to this...

WoW sucks, I would rather watch telletubbies than play that POS...at least telletubbies are smarter than the people playing WoW...they dont yell out: VIN DIESEL! CHUCK NORRIS!" So they must be smarter...

I remember when I used to walk into Barrens chat and I felt this coldness on my chin.  I would reach up and it was drool.  And I would just sit there watching the chat go by, thinking duuuuuhhhh...

And sometimes it would last even after I logged off.  It would scare me because I thought I was going to be stuck like that.  I could hear my mom yelling at me in my head, "Quit going into Barrens chat or your going to stick like that."
Wait, that was making faces.  Nevermind.

Lol... so true. In many respects WoW is more of an arcade game than a roleplaying game; it is only a step up from being a hack n slash.

I used to think WoW was  an incredible MMORPG , but  at lvl 60 the games depth and everything in it.. hit me. This is a WATERED-DOWN MMORPG. It has nothing that distinguishes it or anything new besides its theme. It has no personality really, it has nothing that you can say is special in wow. The game is too simple for its own good. Games like: Daoc, eq2,eve, UO, L2 , etc. All have something that they can call their own and thats what make them great. They have a feature that no other mmorpg has or comes near too. WoW is medicore at best, only reason its so popular is because it does not take an extreme effort to gain anything.

Actually there are some new classes but they are going to have the same "golf course" leveling system, you move from one area, do quests, get better weapons/armor, next...

I've tried this game 2 different times but I can't justify buying a game key because the game reminds me of Diablo way too much and with my weird work schedule I wouldn't be able to do the long raids.

It must not be too bad since you put over 1000 hours into it, I would say you just burnt yourself out on it. So now after spending 1000+ hours playing the game you come here and say you dislike it? lol

You sure you don't mean races?  I haven't seen where they are adding any new classes.  If they were actually going to add some original classes to the game then I might reconsider some of my dislike for the game.  Some, not all.

But I mean look at the classes they have.  They are all classes in other games.  Every single one of them.  I can't think of another game that so blatantly steals from every other game without any new ideas at all.

Check out how many classes are in EQ2, and some are unique to Everquest.  Take a look at how many classes are in DAoC.  It's loaded.  Same with FFXI, new and unique classes.  Anarchy Online, same, unique and new classes.  COx loaded with unique stuff.

WoW has very few classes and the ones they do have are as simple and scaled down as you could have made them.

Well i got bored of WoW too and thought the end game was empty but i say it again you can not fault the marketing team of this game.

They did things other mmorpg should have done.

The traditional mmorpg believe was the game should get more fun as you level up.EQ1,UO,DAoC,etc got you killing some low level animal at the start and as you progress you gain more power and the games just got better.

WoW saw that the press will back a mmorpg in which is the start was very exicting and made you feel powerful. After all reviewers are used to testing a game for a few days before they write on it-FPS,RPG ,sims and such.

This way they won the heart of the press and advetized the game widely.

They targetted a new crowd. Now we said this over the years ,mmorpg need to look for new ppl rather then fight to steal from other mmorpg which has been the usual tradition.

WoW proved one thing for CEOs to learn from.Marketing>anything yes even gameplay.

Does anyone else have that sequence from Posting and You running through their head? The one with the scary voice and red letters.

Here is what I'd like to know. It seems like, if WoW is so horrible and so bad, we wouldn't need to bring it up every day. We wouldn't be needing to use it as a meterstick to compare everything from EVE (which seems bogus to me in any event) to EQII.

Instead, people don't miss a beat to put WoW down. The utterly relentless flailing of this topic makes me want to buy a subscription, just to spite every single person on MMORPG.com that ever brought this topic up since like a year and a half ago. I can only assume the actual goal here is to express so much hatred for an amusement, a hole is actually ripped through to hell from the internet, unleashing Cacodemons (yay Cacodemons!)

I mean, it isn't like you could possibly want the oft-ripped WoW player base for your game or something. So what if they're playing WoW? Isn't that a good thing? You want the 6.5million Chuck-Norris-Joke cracking WoW players on EVE or something? In "Only Chuck Norris Could Beat Up This" Corp and demanding that CCP make it so they can walk around outside their space ship and use ship-to-ship melee weapons?

You want to know why I have such resentment for WoW?  Well, I'll let you know.

I used to love Blizzard.  I used to play Warcraft forever.  I bought Warcraft II and Warcraft III the days they came out.  I played Starcraft till my eyes bled.  I was a Blizzard fanboi of the highest order.  And I was expecting the same quality from World of Warcraft.

I had been playing Warcraft for so long and to be able to be down in the game was absolutely exciting to me.  The sights, the sounds, the story.  I couldn't wait for the Warcraft in World of Warcraft.

Now I feel completely betrayed.  I spent so much time trying to find that magic in the game.  I saw the orcs.  I saw the tauren, the troll, nightelves, and alliance humans.  But they weren't Warcraft.  They sucked.  It was like someone dressing up as someone for Halloween.  It just wasn't real.

But I kept wanting to see it.  So I kept looking.  I kept searching.  All the way to level 60 I had my Blizzard faith going.  Then at 60 I realized how much I had been led on.

I spent all that time looking for something that I thought they could deliver; that I expected them to deliver.  They did use the name Warcraft in the game and use it as a basis for development after all.  Are they not giving us, the loyal Warcraft players, a hint that they had us in mind?  But they didn't.

And then to give us that garbage they gave us.  Nothing at all new.

So, coming from being an avid Warcraft fan and a big fan of MMORPG's I thought it was going to be the perfect combination of the two.  It turned out to be the exact opposite.

There.  Does that maybe explain to you why some of us have so much resentment for the game?  That's 100% of the problem from my perspective.

Same story as my husband.  He played Warcraft forever.  And when World of Warcraft came out I got it for both of us thinking it would be fun.  He lasted about a month and a half before he quit.  He couldn't stand it.  He said, "that's not Warcraft."  He was really angry at Blizzard too and said practically exactly what you have said.

I kept playing because I had some girlfriends at work that I got to play with me.  But we got bored after a while and decided to move to another game.  That and we got tired of hearing the constant childish bickering and cussing and stuff.  DAoC turned out to be a breath of fresh air.  I just wish it was more populated.  That's the reason my friends and myself quit that game.

But my husband did say the same thing as you.  He says that he even has trouble playing Warcraft III now because they just kind of ruined it.  I remember how excited we were at Christmas.  I was looking forward to him and I spending some time together playing.  But now I ruined his whole Warcraft experience.

    Dear (just another) WoW hater
World of Warcraft uses the same graphic style as Warcraft 3. it would only make sense to stay loyal to that graphic style. they aren't bad graphics, in fact, WoW looks great. its a graphic style YOU don't like. learn the diffrence.

Capture the flag may be bad for roleplaying, its definitly a lot of fun. and gameplay > roleplaying ANY time of the day. WoW's Capture the flag battleground works fine.

but I see your just the typical player that only looks at the endgame. World of Warcraft offers you the best experience 1 - 60, and nobody is holding you back from creating alt characters.

also, the Burning Crusade brings new proffesions, new content, a new race, and new lands to discover. thats exactly what an expansion needs to deliver, so what is your point? also, the expansion release date will be announced any minute now, its expected at the end of this year. WoW doesn't even exists 2 years yet, so what makes you think the expansions won't be here before WoW's 3rd life year?

Depth doesn't always have to mean its fun.  I'd rather play a game without a lot of depth like WoW and City of Heroes but are based on fun then one of those so called mmorpgs that are based on depth such as saga of ryzom and EVE but are boring like hell.

also, this entire posts is just your oppinion, WoW is the best mmorpg out there. get used to it. proffesionals gave it an average score of 9.3, and the 6,5 million people that pay 15$ a month for it prove they were right.

WoW announced a new era in the mmorpg genre. a time where MMORPG's will be based on FUN! not on "depth" with a rediculous long learning curve. an era where MMORPG's will be released as FINISHED products, not half done like the saga of ryzom was when it released. get used to it.
