Of course, the items you're getting from farming/mining/harvesting/gardening/etc are now 500 gil instead of 50 gil, 10,000 gil instead of 1000 gil. So it pretty much evens out.

This game practically forces you to buy gil(which I did, and I am ashamed of, because I quit the game right after I did)

No, it doesn't. I've never bought gil, and I've had no trouble outfitting myself pretty well, for several jobs, while bringing my main (RDM) up to 40. No Astral Rings, but I almost always have +1 equipment. Baron's gear (but not the Pigaches and the Chapeau because they aren't so good). Morion Earrings and a Wizard's Earring. Upgraded my Tranquility Rings +1 and Knowledge Rings +1 to Solace and Wisdom rings (only one +1 of each though, alas), and got my Electrum Rings and Hairpin. Even bought my RSE hands, feet and legs because I had enough money to be lazy about it (Do plan on questing them, though, and getting my money back). All my spells, including Dispel, and including all spells for my subjobs. It's just not that difficult to make money if you look for the opportunities.

sure its grinding alot... but remember UO? Honestly i dont think its that bad. I have like 8 friends who play it with me, were always grouping or helping each other out. Grindings a chore. but i think its well worth it.
