Video card selection?

Hey,

I really don't post much, but I do read a lot.

Anyway, I'm building a new rig and I've been out of the video card scene for a pretty long time, so i'm not too sure about which one I should get.

Here they are:

EVGA e-GeForce 7600 GT CO SUPERCLOCKED 256MB

http://evga.com/products/moreinfo.asp?pn=256-P2-N555-AX&family=22

Sapphire RADEON X800 GTO ULTIMATE 256MB

http://www.sapphiretech.com/ca/products/products_specifications.php?gpid=120

ATI Radeon X1600 Pro 512MB

http://www.ati.com/products/RadeonX1600/specs.html

If you do decide to post, I simply ask that you give reason for your choice.

Thanks in advance.

I would personally go for the EVGA geforce 7600 becouse its better for the money, the 7600 and the x1600 are really close in performace maybe only a couple fps difference but the 7600 is cheaper therefore i would go with the 7600.

    o, its not a problem.

my older brother is the one who's paying.

And i've just talked to some friends, they've told me that the x1600 is a more advanced card; that is its got newer technologies, but they said that the 7600 outperforms the x1600 in some games. They haven't given me any proof...so i'm still undecided.

i went for the 7600 in my secondary pc, and i've not been disapointed. It plays oblivion wonderfully, daoc is a breeze on it even with dual accounts, and half life 2 is smooth as anything. the main thing i liked about it though, is that it's quiet, and uses very little power. it's not got an external power connector, all comes from the pci-x bus, so there's not a huge drain on your psu, and the fan used, on my xfx card at least, is almost silent.
a friend of mine has the same pc as me, but with the x1600, and there's no noticable performance difference, at least, not noticable to the average human eye.
plus, one other thing, nvidia's drivers tend to be a little less bloated and a little more stable. not all people will agree of course, i wouldn't expect them to, but this is just my view on it after all.
    hope it helps

It is newer and yes is more advanced BUT the 7600 performs just as well for a better prrice so your better off getting that one.  And for proog you can go to toms hardware.com and click on vga charts for different benchmark scores of different cards in different games.

i go for 7600 .If you were talking about higher end cards then ati would be teter but in mid range 7600 is better.

Get any of them.  You probably wont notice much difference in games after about 35+ fps.  Unless your playing something like Oblivion or Fear.

So get which one looks cooler, or fits your case the bests, or has the best cooling fan or something.

    there all very powerful cards.

ATI is the best In my opinion, they've shaken the market by providing great hardware at reasonable prices compared to what others sell for.

I've got the 9600 XT, and it runs everything fine, Fear included, only thing to give me any serious lag at all is Oblivion, and it's not even very much.

I'm going to have to get a better one for some of the games coming out in the near future, but for games already out thats done the trick for me.
Can Even handle Hitman:Blood Money on the max settings perfectly.

Those cards would play fear at a good framerate, with all the eye candy turned off.

-- make sure u got at least 1gb of ram too

but a friend of mine plays Fear with the geforce 6200, and it plays fine... just no e ye candy like i said earlier.

well if those cards perform relatively the same, then it comes down to reliability with the EVGA, or new technology with the x1600. Now i have to decided.

    Thanks for all your help.

No problem.  EVGA Is agood nforce brand.  I personally like Leadtek over EVGA, but its your personal preferance.  BFG is pretty good too, big power cards!

-- but with a 7600gt or or x1600 or something you'll be fine.  You'll prlly play Fear with Half settings on or so, at a decent resolution.

    Good luck

Just remember not to get caught up in the numbers game when it comes to vid cards, you can throw alot of high numbers into a vid card and charge 500-800 bucks for it and still not have it perform as well as a better programed card with lesser numbers, like a techie friend of mine told me "you can throw a bunch of ram and stuff into a vid card but it will still be outdone by a more efficient model". Vid cards are a bit like car engines, horsepower is one thing, but performance and gear ratios are what really counts.

I think you could play fear descently on pretty high settings with those cards (they are pretty powerfull, not the best but still powerfull) and if you need even more of a performance boost just google rivatuner its an overclocking utility for video cards i got 20 extra fps with it (i used at toll but ati tool doesnt support nvidia so use rivatuner)

Edit: i dont know wehere your buying from but i just looked at newegg and the 1600 is actually less money so maybe you want to go with that one instead, but then again the 7600 has a higher core and memory clock so it might be better, its all up to you, you need to compare alittle.

He's right, the x1600 is pretty cheap on newegg.  .. But i'd still go with the geforce 7600 card , IMO.  I've had better luck with Nvidia , and better graphics overall.  Dont get me wrong, ati is good.  But, with the higher core and memory clock, you'll get good fps.

-- if u get the x1600 , be sure u download the omegaz drivers-- they are great for gaming. (only ati)

    good luck
