Shadowbane is unlike any mmorpg that I have ever played. The leveling system is easy to work if you enjoy a good bit of grind in your gaming experience or very easy to manipulate if you like to get a lvl 1 toon to 75(top lvl) in less then a day. The game is very in-depth with character creation and development. No two characters in this game are alike because of all the various ways you have of altering your toon. PVP is by far this games best aspect. This game wasn’t designed for role-playing it was built for pvp. All the people you see saying this sucks say that for one reason...they lack pvp skill and thus are killed in every encounter. A Nation/Guild is a must unless you enjoy jumping from tree to tree killing people you find in town which is always fun when you are bored. If you want to play a game where you can easily be filthy rich this is also the game for you. You can farm up enough money by killing npcs which 95% of them drop gold and get yourself a city with vendors or trainers and then open the tree to the whole world to come and buy your gear or use your trainers. Once again this game was built for pvp/pk/rpk so you will have to deal with people rolling your lvling group every once in a while. One thing that I have noticed in most mmorpgs is that there is usually a class/profession/race that is superior to the rest but this cannot be said for SB. Every race/class/profession/discipline can be defeated by more then one type of toon it all depends on how you play your character.

This game has the best pvp engine out there and because of this I find that it is impossible to get bored of this game.

If you have a counter argument post it and watch as I shoot it down: )

    I agree--No argument from me.

Ive played DAOC, WoW and SWG all seriously. I tried to come back to this game once before but there wasnt enough people at the time so I left. But now since its free, there are a million people to play with and Im loving it more than ever.

It is easy to get to max level although I dont know anyone that got to 75 in one day. Ive known people that got to lvl 75 on the test server--- and they were powerleveled-- took them 8 hours. Mind you the test server levels faster.

You would think that the game would get boring with max lvl being so quick. Beleive me, it doesnt. THere are roughly 30 classes (Im guessing) and at least 4 ways to build each class. IMO there isnt a better system of class design. FIrst you can start out as a base class, IE- rogue/healer/mage/fighter, pick a race, lower or raise stats and finally add some starting runes to make your build unique.

At lvl 10 you pick what class your going to be. At lvl 20 you can pick from an assortment of Runes that will add skills or abilities. You can choose to pay for these Discipline Runes or go and search out the NPC that you can kill to get the rune.

From there you lvl, join a guild hopefully in a good nation, run shops to make jewelry/weapons/armor, city hop to kill other players, kill lowbies, bane other peoples citys, help defend citys, attack mine's.

Not happy with your class? Do some research and roll another class.

    Its alot of fun

what are you smoking sir?  I have never seen a game I could RP like I can SB, because of the PvP.  Maybe it doesn't force everyone to RP, but if you choose to, SB gives you all the tools you could possiblity want to pick a faction (and there are plenty to pick from) and fight to the death for its ideals.

SB needs more people like this.. rather than people who play it for a few days then go flame it on boards saying how it sucks. From what Jerek has said it shows he knows what he is talking about and has taken the time to learn every aspect which i cannot say about the people who just think they know what SB really is.  Even some people who have played SB for a long time do not understand everything about it...

hack (hak) n., A clever solution to an interesting problem.

I played Shadowbane a few months back, and after getting over the not-so-nice-looking blurry graphics....nope,I wasn't a fan of the bad UI. Mouse controls were ok. I did follow a human scout guide but some of the systems confused me.

Yet......I am now returning to SB because I did manage to grind to about level 20,and I think tbh-

a: I levelled so fast to that point that I think it shocked me.

b: I was treating SB like a PvE game, and was very confused once off Newbie Isle.I was rushed off Newbie Isle by someone with a high-level alt account.

c: I had WOW back then?

So I'm returning to SB,and this time I'd like to make the most of it as the PvP sounds a really really good. Someone remind me which server is the  non-RP'busy' one.

Currently starting up a human scout on Mourning.

good luck to yah, hope you enjoy it.  Not sure which scout guide you looked at, but I hope it had playstyle tips and not just a template.  It can be tricky to know your role as a scout and I consider it one of the more difficult classes to play effectively, and like all defense based classes is very dependent on good gear.

Find yourself a decent guild as quickly as possible that will help you out, and if you find yourself getting frustrated consider rolling an alt (like you already noticed leveling is a short process anyway) since most any healer or fighter base is easier to learn the game with.

I followed Eyes' Comprehensive Scout Guide,as it included what runes to choose on start-up et al,and he highlighted the 'Human Wereat Scout',of which I am doing the same again.

I'm still not a fan of the controls 100% and UI,but it's not too daunting. I would put down the PvE lag,but since I know SB is mostly about PvP,I deem this not to be a problem as I foresee PvE to not be the major part of my time here. Especially if you gain exp from PvP kills still.

And having seen videos, yes, yes this truely is the PvP I have been looking for. Seige weapons, cities made and designed by players alone, big and little guilds fighting each other; even chose the right server. Of course,I'll probably be encouraged to level up asap or be griefed, but I'll deal with that with my stealth; gotta love stealth.

I HEAVILY disagree with your decision to play a scout. There survivability isnt great...nothing imo is great about them other than the fact that they can track and can revealed stealthed charachters.

And its not so much the class as it is your trying to play a fun class, and are new....Wrong class for you totally.

There are many classes I would reccomend over a scout especially for a new player. Ill give you four suggestions....but please...save yourself the headache and save the scout for your 2nd class.

Clothy Human Huntress-- Can dodge, big spell damage, can kite and run away just to come back and tear you up some more and they also have a mean dot. If you want a pet, its a near insta summon. They can track and they can stealth. If you take commander rune, that buff plus the huntress run buff stack--making your virtually uncatchable. THe only class that can do you one better on the running side of things is a Cent Huntress.

Ranger-million ways to make a ranger but they too can stealth if my memory serves me correctly. can heal, do ranged or melee damage and can track.

Nithstalker, has dodge also, cant be drained by a vampire(very popular race) or a Templar. Can be very versatile taking either xbow/bow or Unarmed. In unarmed builds the procs are good and you have stuns and powerblocks. With xbow kiting is good. They too can stealth and I think they can take a rune to track.

And one last suggestion-- a Human Crusader. Very respectable damage, very survivable, can take damage and have a VERY nice percent heal that heals most of there hitppoints. If you want even more survivabiltiy with less damage and a whole lot more resists and defense you could choose a dwarf sader.

Do yourself a favor and try one of those classes before you try a scout.

Scouts are made to scout with, find out yoru enemys numbers, get into a town and disable spires, they are not made to kill people with.

The definition of insanity: doing the same thing over and over expecting different results.

I've rolled a human rogue ranger,I can pretty much track people like the scout.

Much fun I've had so far.
