Ah, rofl, in that case I agree with you. I like the game, yeah, but I agree with lots of people who say it isn't worth 12 a month. And It's not, lol. I just had to jump on you about the buff thing because you were completely wrong. XD

If you're thinking of getting this game, you should like anime for starters. You should also enjoy simplistic sit-back-and-watch combat. Skills do not auto target and what you are currently attacking, you must select the target with a cursor. On lvl up you get stat points, and the amount you recieve increases with your level. There are Base levels and Job levels. Base levels control stats as described above, Job levels give you a skill point per level to use on training'increaing a skill. You start out as Novice, get job level to 10  and Change professions to the first class, a la Acolye, Archer, Mage, Merchant, Swordsman, or Thief. Then you begin to get to at LEAST job level 40, max 50, in which you can change to second class. Acolyte to Priest or Monk, Archer to Hunter or Bard/Dancer, (I only connect those based on the fact that bard has a skill that fires arrows, lol) Mage to Wizard or Sage, Merchant to Blacksmith or Alchemist, Swordsman to Knight or Crusader, and Thief to Assassin or Rogue. Then... you again raise job lvl to 50, at which point you can only raise base lvl to 99. If you make it that far and you have good weapons with good cards, You reach endgame. You can do naught but lvl and item hunt at second job, except do PvP during War of emperium times. The Money's called Zeny, the monsters never drop it, and you never see it in material form. The way to get it is picking up drops from monsters you kill and selling them. The characters/monsters/npcs are 2d sprites wit the classic 8 side view, but only 4 side view in combat stance. Npcs and monsters also have only 4 sides. Character Creation consists of selecting a hairstyle and color of the hairstyle, setting your beginning stats, and naming. Names allow spaces and special symbols. Here are the names of the town I know to be in/soon to be in. Prontera, Morroc, Geffen, Payon, Alberta, Izlude, Al de Baran, Lutie, Comodo, Yuno, Amatsu, Gonyrun, Umbala, and Nifflheim. =)

      ^^^ The facts.

Now you all can judge if you agree with the author of this topic.

    [edit] Fixed some stuff.

This is CreativeName's fancy schmancy sig. Let the 'ooh'ing and 'ahh'ing commence... Now.

RO is a UO ripoff, only UO is more fun.

    Ultima Online- Apoc
    Final Fantasy XI Online- Nabara
World of Warcraft- (Coming soon :P)

i play on australian servers because racism is acceptable there

OK, iRO is fun, but to a limit. RO you all reach to the same place after getting to such a high lvl. I played the game a couple times, got bored and quit. Then played it again got bored and quit. The consistency of it always keeping up with updates is impressives, shows alot of good dedicated workers to the game. But that game still is just wat ever. Nice graphic yea, for an anime game. Thinking of paying for it, nah.

UO, dont know why this game is even in this subject, UO is a real time game. You can do many more things in UO and RO, 2 thumbs up. In fact you can gain more experience in MMORPG from UO, than RO, RO half the time you get bots, have you ever try talking to a BOT. Its a very short conversation. UO is a good game, i play that game for 5 years, hell that game is kind of getting boring to, but the length of stuff and goals you can achieve are more interesting, and many nice ways to get there. RO you can have a buddy help you rush, while in UO you stil have to do some hard work for the stuff you want. I mean work. Or if your the type for Ebay good for you, doesnt really make any different.

RO, its an okay game. Worth playing? yea, but if your really bored. Bots, afk people, and some times the "Girls" are actually guys. ECK. and some times the girls are actually guys acting like GIRLS. OMg! UO, there are some out there, but not most of the time.

UO, its a game you like it you get addicted to it, you got no patience just stay away from it. Make some really nice conversation? Yes.

RO like many mmorpgs is just about level crunching and pvp. This is well boring, but it is no different then so many other mmorpgs, the main difference being the style; and it will probably die with many other mmorpgs when a more versatile mmorpg comes along.

However, RO isnt a complete garbage game. Many people neglect to see the genious that is put forth in some aspects. Such as the User Interface. It is simply the best user interface in any mmorpg. In most mmo's the User interface blocks atleast half the screen, and some vital parts are left in the lower-right corner. Which is the absolute worst spot to put stuff.

I suggest examining the good aspects of this game, so if you ever have to look at the crappiness of other mmorpgs, you can see what the developers neglected in it. It also helps strengthen your view on why an mmorpg sucks.

From my view Ragnarok had a chance at being one of the best implemented mmorpgs, but the cut to many corners and took alot of bad advice. Here is a list of things that gravity could have done or even planned and turned down through arrogance, and a bad QA department:

    *Mini-games
    *multi-plane leveling
    *player owned structures
    *Simplified party split method.
    *Gambling System
    *Work Skills

All of these have come to gravity and either have been turned down or were de-implemented through bad judgment, with the implementation of these things the game would probably be one of the best mmorpgs. But they missed the chance and the game is probably gonna die within the next 6 months.

Ive played iRO during beta1 for 2 weeks. most of you that say this game sucks are probably the guys who are mean/an ass/not very social. this game does get slightly tedious, and repetitive but the community is what makes this game stick out from the rest. yes bots are weird but its actually good for the game *gasp* wanna know why? it is because they get insane ammounts of rare droppings which make rare items all the cheaper which is good if you are the customer but bad if your the vendor

  • RegisPhilbinRegisPhilbin Member Posts: 16
After having played this game for a couple months and bringing 2 chars to level 80+ I can safely say the commity in this game is nothing special. Deathstrikes opinion is valid as his own, but in even he admits he has only played for 2 weeks - hardly enough time to get into the main parts of the game now, maybe different then. Though the servers are usually very active, I would wager that (conservatively) at least 50% of the people logged on at any given time are bots; this is saying nothing of the 40% people logged on who are non-bots that are merely AFK store merchants selling their items for often RIDICULOUSLY high prices (one skill in-game lets you set up your own sit-down shop for those uninformed in such matters). As for the bots, they DON'T get insane amounts of rare droppings. Almost all my friend-listed players botted at some time or another (evidenced by their occaisionally robotic responses to chat) and only a precious few of them ever found anything worthwhile. Also, regardless of the large amounts of rare items that have somehow ended up cluttering the system, the prices never seem to drop, even though 100 people (not an exageration) in the same screen might be selling the same "Sup3r RareZ" item. These afk stores just clutter towns -mainly in Prontera - with store-flags that make it nearly impossible to walk and rarely illicit a bargain or necessary items. Those mean/an ass/not very social  people probably just wanted to find some real people to party up with in the midst of two dozen bots in the area they were trying level in.

I would like to add that it isn't an AWEFUL game, regardless of the drawbacks. The interface is beautifully simple, Gravity updates extremely often, and it is an easy, friendly game to pick up with little MMO experience. RO is sadly missing far too many features and has too many annoying and/or deterring quirks to make it worth p2p in my opinion.

Whereas I do not think it is horrible, I think it lacks many things... but I enjoy Ragnarok. It is pretty and fun and delightful to play, as long as you have someone to play with you. It probably would not be too fun to just around solo, though it is a lot easier than a lot of other games I have played.

I play RO, but I do have to agree that it DOES have some problems, and I believe that these problems are what put some people off.

    1. Combat: Combat in this game requires ZERO SKILL.  That's my main gripe.  Take, for example, my Mage char.  For combat, I walk up to something, cast a level 10 bolt at it, and it dies.  That's it. That's not so much "combat" as it is a slaughter.  No skill needed.  And that goes for many classes too.... The melee classes can just run up to something, hit it 8 bazillion times really fast, throwing in an occaisional skill, and the thing just dies.  The only fights I've seen that DO take some skill are against bosses.

    2. Cheating: There is SO MUCH cheating going on in this game.   And did you know that Gravity really doesnt DO anything about illegal activities? Example: A (rather dopey) friend of mine plays RO off of an illegal server. Being a PAYING customer, this rather ticked me off.  So, I bounced around the web, trying to see if I could find the address of that server, to send it to gravity and they could "deal" with it.  Didnt find that one, but I did find FOUR others.  I sent the full addresses, with descriptions even, to Gravity.  Guess what?  That was two and a half weeks ago.  They have done NOTHING. Those servers, and the very obvious sites that surround them are STILL THERE.  And running an illegal server is the MOST illegal thing you can do with this game... botting doesnt even compare.  So, you'd think that Gravity would jump on these like a pack of angry, rabid wolves.... but no.  They dont even try.

    3. Content: There isnt much to do other than fight/buy stuff.  Only quests that I know of are the skill quests... When I log on, I am either buying things, or I go to Poring Isle and throw Cold Bolts at the Poporings for xp.  That's it.  I never have any reason to go to any other zones other than that one and Prontera, and I wont have any reason until I level past that zone.

Now, those arent like, game killing problems, but they are enough to put many people off. Even I only play this casually, as there are other things that are better.  It's all just opinion, though.

  • RegisPhilbinRegisPhilbin Member Posts: 16

    I totally agree:

    1. Combat: Definitely lame. It gets ridiculously easy to kill individual monsters as a mage, vitality knight, vitality anything, hunter, assassin, acolyte....oh wait...as EVERY class its easy to kill single monsters. This is excepting bosses and mini-boss type monsters that might require 2 high level characters to defeat easily (vitality knights can solo basically anything with one click of auto-attack).

    2. Cheating: Too many bots. As many private servers as you can look for with as many experience, job experience, and item drop multipliers as you can dream of (most are at LEAST 10x [though i haven't sunk low enough to actually play on one]). And as you stated, Deihlanos, Gravity does nothing. They SAY they care and that they'll stop bots, cheating, etc..., but it rarely ever happens. When I quit I used my last 2 weeks to bot. I downloaded a bot for that sole purpose and did nothing but bot and make sure I was botting (after maintenance and such kicked me off). I did not recieve one warning, let alone a "You're banned, you cheater, you." message. Thats just pathetic considering my bots auto-responses were "I'm a bot, ban me." and "Gravity sucks." which were each repeated 5 times in 1 second (humanly impossible), alternating from one response to the other to whoever spoke to me.

    3. Content: THIS GAME HAS TONS OF CONTENT!!!!! But thats only if you consider content to be one-click fighting, useless little uncustomizable pets (each pet has ONE possible item that can be equipped to change its appearance), and 3-5 quests per basic class to do just to gain a skill (these are the games only real quests, besides item recipes like *not actual quote*"Bring me 25 x, 15 y, 15 z, 10 a, 10 b, 10 c, 5 d, and 5 e and I'll give you 1 Cake Hat that does nothing but make you look like an ass!")

The only saving grace this game has is that it's VERY easy and a good beginners MMO game. TO anyone with more than two weeks of MMORPG experience: Avoid this game like the plague. (IMHO.)

I highly suggest this game to anyone planning to become a professional Game Developer. This game and Second Life. Both of them lack alot but they are incredibly helpful at determining the success of an mmorpg. Also Second Life is really a game developer mmorpg. Depending on the scripts you create, you can make your own game within the game which is a very strong point in my opinion. Once you play ragnarok it becomes incredibly easy to see how far a game will last, and things they add to games that simply are eye-candy, and won't help with problems. Such as I would probably think EQ2 is a great game if it werent for RO. Now I know nearly all the features they added to it from EQ are merely supplements to the current things you can do in EQ, and they didnt add anything revolutionary.

I wouldnt worry about how Gravity handles Private Servers, Just know they handle them. If you want the full details on how they handle them here it is. Gravity can't actually stop people from making the emulators to play the game unless they use a modified version of thier emulator like Aegis servers. They can however shutdown servers that use thier content. Currently Gravity has a list of over 20 popular website/forums that list the server info to private servers. They then place moles on these servers and usually shut them down once they reach 100-200 people or have been around for a month. They usually tell the owner to not talk about the fact that Gravity shut them down or face a law suit. By doing this they literrally plump up on players. The player base then has no one to blame for shutting down thier favorite servers and wiping thier char data. By doing this Gravity assures they can offer a better service then any priv server. For one they can assure the game they supply isn't cluttered with bugs, and is a different gaming experience. For two they can assure that thier character will remain for more then a couple weeks.

One major reason why Gravity doesnt have time to translate updates is that they have to deal with alot of cheating Bots, Selling eBay, and private servers. Monitoring these things and properly dealing with them is time consuming. Another reason is that they have to deal with customer emails, that they try to respond to within a couple hours. They use an auto response to redundant emails.

First of all, RO is a great RIP-OFF, but lets show some points...

    - No gameplay: Cmon, customazation is limited, i cant change my clothes except my helmets? Why do my char keep steeping away from the ladder when i want to go down???

    - History: where? Thats a MMOG (massive multiplayer Online game) not a MMORPG Not even the nord myth is taken seriously, desert on nord´s lands? lol

    - Rip-off: Do you even have played Secret of mana or final fantasy? yeah, the job tree is taken from secret of mana (including the thief tree) and the other thing like the new AIRSHIP is taken from u-know-where

-Gravity: Stupid services, IMHO. The patch is painful to us 56k modem-users, no resume at all!

I wont to pay for a rip-off! Get your brain to bring out new things gravity!!

  • CleffyCleffy Member RarePosts: 6,414

Your complaints arent directed well. The only ones with a say on the game is Gravity LLC based in Korea. If you want to get in touch with them you should email them through the kRO website and respond in Korean, otherwise, very similiar to square-enix, your opinion won't even be recognized. I think its really sad because the ones who won 1st-7th place at thier world championship were english speaking countries. And the game itself is significantly unbalanced, needs more content, and can be improved several times further. One year ago it had the chance to be the best implemented game to date like I said. Also don't expect to play any current mmo's with a 56k you'll probably lag to hell

Bingo! The worst is, RO has more bots than players. All people only care about leveling and getting zeny to buy cards.::::07::

Maybe they don't have many choices of MMORPG that is not lag over there. If I can play other games that undoubtly are having better graphics and gameplay, why I should bother to play the crappy one? :)
