There are posters on this site, that simply bring this site down to a childish flamewar level. I suggest a function that replaces all their posts with "POSTER IGNORED CLICK HERE TO READ THE POST".
Spamming, trolling, flaming and not to mention the mis-posting of entire threads seems to be on the increase these past few months and while the reason for this remains entirely irrelevant at this point, it's becoming ever more obvious that the current level of user-control is just insufficient. Forum moderation and guidelines can get you only so far and although I have absolutely no qualms about using the report function, in most cases, it would just be far more efficient if I had the ability to simply ignore selected users and their posts/threads.
Just to make it clear, by no means am I suggesting that the forum moderation is lax or insufficient. I imagine the moderators have their hands full with the current state of the forum being what it is, I know I for one try to give them something to do whenever the oppotunity arises.
So, in summary, I fully support the implementation of a feature that allows me to selectively ignore users and subsequently their posts (and possibly threads).
Now how am I supposed to inform certain people of their moronic ways if they are all ignoring me? Please, don't take away one of my few enjoyments left in life!!

See, now I'm curious, was that meant to be sarcasm?
Generally speaking though, from my understanding, I would think that the sort of people ideally targeted by a feature such as this would be some of the last to actually see it employed. In my opinion, unfavourable actions, like spamming, trolling, harassing etc., all seem to suggest the underlying characteristic of seeking attention and subsequently I would imagine that the people who make use of such actions carry a strong interest in also seeing their effect.
However, if you are indeed being sincere then I respect your opinion but I simply cannot concur. I personally believe that this is the sort of feature where the potential benefit greatly outweighs the possible damage it might do.

I would never ignore Zorvan, he is my hero!
Easy, big guy. You're gonna make me blush
Seriously, Qworg, I agree that an ignore function could come in handy for the new band of trolls that have invaded this site. However, I do reserve the right to inform them of the true depths of their stupidity before they get the chance to ignore me

I agree with this sentiment whole heartedly.
