Advertising is a good concept., as long as it isn't placed somewhere that would make the game world seem stupid. For example, travel on another world and see alien races with Dr.Pepper cans. Seems unrealistic, But the generic £14.99 seems to be the most popular choice.
I don't think player base will be a problem as Stargate is a very popular program/movie. Therefore, people are enticed into paying for the game.
And my previous comment wasn't referring to Guild Wars Hall of Heroes, it was referring to Space Cowboy Online where each area have at least 2 instances of an area.
i think the payment should just be like Guildwar's where you only have to buy the game no monthly fee this works out well and keeps the server team updateing
Of the choices given in the poll, monthly fee is the only viable selection.
To any MMO publishers out there, please consider some alternative payment methods, as 'monthly' fees are my preferred payment method, you might interest a lot of players with a pay as you use it plan.
Offer standard monthly plans ($14.95/month; discounts for 3 month; 6 month; 12 month advance payments); but also allow for metered play via online payment. The user can pre-pay for game time in 10, 25, and 50 hour blocks for $5, $10, and $20 respectively.
Obviously, any hardcore player would go bankrupt paying the pre-pay prices, but these types of plans will appeal greatly to parents who want their kids to budget their limited game play time. The time would only get used while actually on the server playing. This would be nice for people who only play for 2-3 hours a week (about $10/month), and the profit margins are much higher for standard usage.
im happy for it to cost 15$ as i live in britain and it costs around half that in pounds :P
advertising seems an ok way to go as its a semi-real world setting, also i think if its pay for it will keep the village idiots out as best as is currently possible
perhaps an attitude test should be handed out along with the game code LOL
i dont care about a montly fee, aslong as they remember that not every game lives in the US. so like WoW have a Gamecard system that sell in shops all over europe to.
i dont have a Credit Card, im 21 and never neaded one, and maybe only will need on when im maired and 35+
sure you got online paying, saying you dont need a CC, but then al these services normaly ask for you CC number to let you sign up...
How about keeping the standard fee, while reducing the typical $15 a month by including extra content via advertising on expanisions and chapters?
I feel that the problem of unsocialable characters isn't going to be reduced significantly by raising the price using monthly fees. Though people tend to agree that it does lower the total characters around.
Another idea is can anyone think of a new way to pay, such as via SMS? (Habbo Hotel)
The best method for any MMO game, in my opinion, is to be a Monthly fee.
Free to play games, if you look at the ones out there already, don't have very good graphics. Gameplay is also neglected.
Chapter/expansion games doesnt usually do well, at least not in my experiance because, since there is not a constant flow of money, the DEV teams don't really try to improve on the gameplay or graphics, and neither do the GMs pay much attention to the players unless it is something crucial.
Paying for premium items also isn't a good idea because, the people who have the money to buy them, obviously have an unfair advantage over the other players who can't, for advancing in the gameplay.
In the end, my choice for Stargate Worlds, and more or less every good MMO, the game should be Monthly Payment. Just to keep them all on their toes as well.
I do not think that a Monthyly fee to play the game is completly a money hungary issue. The cost to maintain the servers, the Network Maintance and all that stuff costs. Granted I think that SOE and the others are a bit greedy with the price they charge per month on top of the price of the game, think about it, you got millions of people playing a game and paying for it each month... that is enough revenue to feed a small 3rd world country.
The revenue made by the game should be used to support the game (Not other divisions in the same company) purhaps a smaller fee per month, a few different plans aswell. For instance when I play a MMORPG my wife and my son normally play the same one, so that is 3 different CD sets for 3 different accounts and then 3 different monthly charges, gets expensive, and has caused me to leave EQ, EQ2, and WOW (That and the fact that I get BORED out of my mind) create a "discount" for multiple accounts on the same Bank account, or Credit Card? Needless to say I think the P2P method is the best over all mothed to ensure the succes of a game and the content of that game. (I ramble a bit, sometimes...)
************************************************************************* If you want to know what a man's like, take a good look at how he treats his inferiors not his equals!!!
I think chapters is the best option becouse with monthly you will lose not only the people who aren't online so much but also the people who don't have that kind of money every month. and to make a quick rise( becouse of all the other good games comming 2007) it should be a good thing to keep your gamers online.
in my opinon at first this game should go free to get ppl playing est... then up the price to a mounthly fee ofc lots of ppl will get mad at that cos that expect to carey on playing for free but if you ancence you will avatuly be chargeing ppl to play the game then im sure all will be fine.
I'd pay to play this if its done right. I'd actually like to see a system where you can form a guild, or "SG Team" and get assigned a team number "YOu have formed SG team SG-345". Then you could go t the SGC and get missions (quests) to complete, but at the same time the game is as deepely interactive as SWG was. I am looking forward to this game, maybe it will be the game to make me leave WoW, lord knows none of the other MMO's that came out have (I like WoW, I just long for something a little different from the raid an instance for 10 months for a loot drp that 10 other players in your raid team are after, and it only drops three times in that 10 months... kinda sux).

this game already has alot of hype to it not to mention a huge fan base which are all over the Stargate Worlds forums. you can see by the size of the guild forums that once this game is out in public release it will be huge.
most of the "free" games out there make you pay for content or to be able to buy in game items. and where designed that way from the start.
as this game just moved into production its to early to say what the payment options will be, but this game will not have to be free to get people to play it.
check out the Stargate worlds site and forums for update to date info and screenshots.
Well over 60% agree pay per month is the way to go, and I agree. Free games are heavily infested with bots, and other ill folk, and unless there is a way to kill the L33t sgeek, or a massive ban ability to not have your convo text area filled with insaine speek....
As for advertising? come'on do you really wanna be fighting the menacing replicators who are overrunning your position on Px-532H971 that use Vagasil, or hemroid billboards for cover while advancing?
Expansions? ok looking for group to HC-973261, must have expansion pack D5 to group send tell if interrested...
Unfortunatly as long as our society is rulled by the almighty dollar, pound, frank, euro, yen, etc and companys need to turn profits to stay in buisness game designers will charge for access, after all It's entertainment, and you pay to see a movie... Some companies have looked into alternate forms of monthly payment from the credit card, and have gone to Game Time Cards. CCP the company that runs EVE has even gone one step further and allows you to purchase GTC's with ingame money. This while having it's debates in the forums, has lead to a increase in subscriptions, and should be looked at to see how viable it is to the Stargate world...
SWTOR. Face it, in the Scooby Doo Mystery Solving Van of coolness, this game is Velma. In this current MMO climate it has about as much chance for survival as a group of inquisitive teenagers in a 1980s slasher flick. -Tardcore May, 2011

I'd pay $100.00 a month if the game was worth it. This won't be one of them.
I think a guild wars option is the best for this game. I don't see people flocking over (especially if there is a 14.95/mo fee).
What are you talking about? The $15 a month is the standard fee. Very few people are going to have a problem with it except for kids. $15 is the same amount of money it would cost to go to the movies once a month and you get many more hours of enertainment out of an MMO than you do out of going to a movie.
And, actually, alot of people are looking forward to Stargate Worlds, some even more than Star Trek Online. Because its Stargate.
They'll get alot of subscribers.
And GW is a terrible game. If they turned this into GW, most people would run. Except for the kiddies.
