Currently it has about 6 million, but don't be surprised with a bunch of new great games like Age of Conan, Darkfall, Vanguard SoH, Pirates of the Burning Sea and Heros Journey comming out next year, most of those players will be moving onto those new games. It has happened to MMORPGs before (E.g. UO, EQ), where a game looses millions of players within a couple of weeks.

I thought Darkfall was coming out soon (tm). Lol.

Out of that list, I'm looking forward to PoBS the most.

There is no way WoW can be holding subs.  I know of no less than 9 people who cancelled there accounts.  Not saying its a bad game or flaming but it just gets old and its time to move on unfortunately.  If there is a rise in subs it must come completely from China.

It does seem that most of the rise in subs is coming from China and overseas

In Europe and North America alone,

17 million people have cancelled their accounts and still the subs are rising.

It's still in the top ten box game sales. New subs are joining every day.

Although I have strong suspicions this is true, there really is no way to tell right now.  Also bored WoW players recruit pretty heavily so there may not be a net lose just an asston of turnover.

Of course another thing that keeps the subscription rates up are the gold farmers and other 3rd party business people.

With all the websites you see selling gold and items, there obviously has to be someone online GETTING said gold and items.  To get them you need a subscription, hence the inflated numbers.  These people don't group, raid or pvp.  Of the 6mil (or 6.5, 5mil depending who you talk to) I would guess few hundred thousand of those are non-player farmer types working for their sell wow gold business.

    Just some food for thought

the only reason u still see a bunch of people playing WoW is because it is the best game they can play for their computers of course this isnt true for everyone...........

in otherwords they don't have the system requirments for EQ2

I don't think the system requirements for EQ2 make people play WoW.  Since you can turn down or off many of the graphics in EQ2 that wouldn't be an issue.

I tried EQ2 when 1st came out, was rather bleh.  I felt was EQ1 grind with watered down classes and prettier graphics.  Spring '05, I got an email for a free trial to see all the improvements and I did enjoy EQ2... BUT... SOE had the "brilliant" idea to do a Combat Upgrade and, as any SWG player knows, if there is a way to bork up a game SOE will find it.  I left EQ2 for good 3 days after that and never looked back.

WoW is slowly turning into World of EverQuest, meaning more Raids, Grinding and Rep Requirements to get anything done.  Not to mention, ticking off a large portion of your customers by adding horde paladins and alliance shamans isn't helping either.  Before release, Blizz was so proud to offer faction-specific classes.  It gave each side a bit of unique identity.  Now, come expasion they are throwing lore out the window and doing this so they can have a "new class" to Burning Crusade without actually having to design one.

What ends up killing WoW will probably be Blizzard's managing incompetence and unwillingness to listen to their customers wishes.
