    Hmmm
Actually there's quite a bit to explore... just no world map :)  But the city and adventure areas do cover a lot of ground....

Grouping is fairly forced but there is solo content that'll keep you busy till about level 4, after that you are stuck grouping or doing the same solo missions over and over (or doing group missions solo that are far below your level).

But yeah.... game isn't worth buying unless you have a dedicated group to play with.

But, as to the MxO comparison?  Nah... MxO has yet to break 10k subs... DDO has 90k... so it's not as bad as MxO :)  Not by a long shot.  SOME folks evidently really like the game.  It'll never be 'mainstream' though, not without some drastic changes.

Did you see Dungeons & Dragons, the movie? If you did, you wouldn't ask that question :)

So El, I guess you've been toying around with DDO lately. I tested the game back when it was in beta and wasn't thoroughly impressed with it after a while. I got bored. Once you do the quests a few times it got too repetetive.

How do you like it now? Are you still in the free trial stage? I hear the new expansion is coming.

Level and Class of your character?

Expansion hit today... haven't had a chance to monkey with it.  I did 5 weeks of free trials :)  LOL I have a ton of email addresses.... then a friend gave me a copy for free so I am playing that... got 5 days left on it till I move on to something else....

Game is "ok" but really don't see anything that's going to make me stick around after 30 days.  Also the new Drow race is 'gated'.  You have to get 400 "favor" in the game, which means you pretty much have to do every quest in the game multiple times in order to unlock the race.  It's a blatant ploy to get people to re-subscribe after their 30 days of free time from buying the box runs out.  It's also already having EXACTLY the effect that everyone warned turbine about:  Just like Jedi brought on Hologrinders the "DROWJEDI" have brought on the "Questgrinders" who are just doing all the low level quests on "hard" and "elite" just to grind favor as fast as possible so they can 'unlock' their 'uber' 'drow'.

What's hillarious is they gave every person who had done a trial an extra week to play but it ended on the 7th (BEFORE the expansion) so they didn't even get that right (Turbine's marketting genius at work again).  They should have done the 'retry' period AFTER they released the expansion so they could teaser the trial suckers with Drow ;)

Oh well... I never expected much from this title anyway.  Turbine has never impressed me much.  AC was ok in it's day but it wasn't the great hit that it's fans would have anyone believe.  It was #3 out of 3 Western MMORPGs.  Went to #4 as soon as DAOC released... was lower in subs than EVE when it released... Basically every decent MMORPG that's released has been far more successful than AC... not that the Turbine fans would tell you that.  Hell... AC2 was a failure almost from day 1, spiking for like 1 month to about 50k subs then plumetting back to <20k and never going up, eventually being cancelled.  But the Turbine fans will say 'it was a great game just before its time'... clue folks:  I played AC2 when it came out... it sucked....

AC was an 'average' MMORPG (at best) and today is barely on life support.  DDO is a below-average game and I'm fully expecting LOTR:O to be mediocre, at best, as well.

It's a shame too.... even SOE could have done a better job with DDO than this.  Turbine didn't just drop the ball on this one... they tried to throw a flea-flicker and wound up fumbling on their own 10 yard line.  Its fun for a while but there's really no point whatsoever to the game.  You don't really get anything from quests... NPC's don't react to you any differently whether you're "Famous" or "unknown".  There's no 'point' and no 'story' to the game either.  Nor are there any true MMORPG aspects to the game.

    It's an online dungeon generator.

Mark my words, as soon as NWN2 releases this game's subscriber base will plummet.  It was 90k for a bit... but that's not going to last.  Retention rate, from what I'm told by someone 'in the know' is in the 1-1.5 month range, that's counting the die-hard fans, btw.. which means most folks don't subscribe past the 30 days free play on the box.  (Case in point:  Me... and I wouldn't even have gotten the box if it hadn't been GIVEN to me...)

If they had this, there would be a lot more content! Still, you are right about most of it.

A correction to El's post about the 400 favor, it is not that hard to get to 400 at all.   Also if you run a quest now for the first time on hard or elite, it is completely unlocked without having to run normal to unlock hard then hard to unlock elite.    If you take one character and run the typical quests in game one time through and some of the ones you find alot of fun twice you will hit 400 favor by lvl 6 I believe.

Beg to differ.  If you are a casual player who plays more than one character it will take over a month to get 400 favor more than likely.... probably just over 2 months.  I have 3 characters... all 5th level (and one is 7th)  None of them have 400 favor yet... That's after hrm.... 32 days played on this account (7 day trial + 25 days of the 30 I got with the box I was given from a friend)

I probably won't manage to unlock Drow before my time expires.  I guess if you play 4 or 5 hours a day you could hit 400 favor pretty quickly (maybe 2 weeks or so)... but as a casual player (2-3 hrs a day, only on weeknights) I seriously doubt anyone is going to hit 400 favor unless they're absolutely trying very very hard to get it in any kind of 'short' ammt of time.

Well I'll take your word for it buy with my lvl 10 I had over 750 pts and there were alot of quests I only did on normal.   I am a very casual player as I only play twice a week but I have been playing since launch.    I only play my main character mostly.   I am starting out a drow character to check out alot of the low lvl content again.

Yeah, it was Horrible and a disgrace to the D&D Title....

However there was a sequel out to take back the D&D name. The acting wasn't the Greatest, but this time they didn't make it look like they were making fun of D&D... This time it was more of a Drama rather than a Comedy like the first.

Dungeons & Dragons II - Wrath of the Dragon God.

    See above in red:
If a player has to play a race/class that they don't really want to to level 10 (hell, even level 6 or 7) just so that they can START a character of the race they DO want to play then that is a BAD thing.

Again:  Just look at the mess that the Jedi Hologrind caused in SWG... ungh!

Personally I could give a rip about playing a black skinned elf.. WHEEE  You start out with slightly better base stats but the racial enhancments drow get stink to high heaven.  There are only a couple classes that will really benefit from starting as a Drow (Bards/Paladins come to mind... LOL @ a drow paladin)

How they can screw up D&D is beyond me. Super beyond me. Then again, It's turbine

I played the beta until they shut it off. That was enogh for me. It was kinda like a fantasy City of Heros, only not as good. Doesn't seem to be any continuity to the game. Just one point of "action" after another. Forced grouping is freaking stupid! Those days are long gone, even EQ believes it. Yeah I give it a year, maybe a year and half just because of the name and all the hardcores out there.

They screwed up what could have been the best MMO out there. I just can't believe they missed the mark that bad. I mean hell, lets make another game I'll tell you how to make it better than you did, Turbine has yet to prove to me they can make a great game. Good thing their pockets are lined with Microsoft, otherwise they'd be broke.

    Horrible,... just horrible

    Can't say it enough, horrible

haha oh man the second d&d movie was hilarious.  When the cleric runs up to the white dragon and consquently gets eaten, well its just classic.  There when the dragons blows up there's bits of cleric everywhere.
