So do you guys that want to see smedly run over by a truck hauling a shipment of SWG boxed sets, really intend on playing SWG again if he is canned?
I still go by the idea that if you remove one evil another more powerful evil will take its place. That or I have read far too many Dragonlance books when I was a kid.

In all fairness, SOE didn't create MxO, but your point still stands. A few years ago, if I'd told you that an MMO based on Star Wars, an MMO based on The Matrix, and an MMO based on Warcraft, a game that was fairly popular but no cultural phenomenon, were going to be released, which of those three would most likely be the least popular. MxO and SWG should be a license to print money, there is no excuse.

You read to much dragonlance. Although with SOE and LA, I wouldn't be surprised if we got someone worse than Smed lol.. I think they have to realize that there are two options, classic server or bust. they could still work on swg2 or whatever and run classic servers, milk the franchise while they can, as swg2 stays in development for a couple years. I don't think they want to shut the game down outright, but hey it's SOE and LA, wonders never cease.

Firstly that's to quick and painless for most of us, secondly I'd never play that rubbish again. Infact you'd have to pay me and pay me well to play that monstrosity of an MMORPG even if they made PRE-CU servers, and I'd still hate the game and the people that "maintained" it.

Ahh then Darth Smedly's plan is complete... you can strike him down with all your hatred and anger and your journey to the darkside will be complete...
Or you can just hit the cancel button and flip him off, yea he cant see u flipping him off but its the thought that counts

Hmm... Torres needs to be standing beside him when the truck comes.
No, removing Smed alone won't be enough. But it's a good start. The quicker the management that was responsible (and personally tied to) the CUNGE are gone, the more likely the obvious (and only) way out is chosen: classic servers.

The idea for the NGE came within SOE. JFreeman was it's actual architect (he's gone now). Of course, LEC signed off on it. LEC does little to none of the actual development, their role is mainly to sign off on what SOE does.
I'm sure LEC signed off on it because they were told that free Jedi=1 million subs.

$OE didn't design it... and it failed to go big with launch.
$OE just killed what life it had.

No.. $OE designed everything. LA signs off on continuity and setting issues. That, and they have veto power on some greand design issues.
It has been posted all over that the design of the nge was ALL $OE and LA just signed off on it.
But every stitch of code, every direction came from the chimps at $OE. LA just left it unattended for years.

WellI dont care... I am still pissed at George for ruining the perfectly good (and more logical) idea of The Force being an energy field created by all living things, rather than a bunch of bugs in your blood (midichloriants) I mean WTH!!! Dude, be objective. $OE is the primary force that has ruined SWG, but LEC does hold some culpability due to their oversight/rubberstamping responsibilities.
As for the Force, ol' George was trying to prevent the kind of thing that happened after the release of the original film - several nutjobs started their own Force-based religions, one even suggested Lucas himself found a church/cult based on Jedi. Yes, the midichlorian idea was stupid beyond belief and is a patent rip-off of mitochondria, which are in every single cell of every single person (we're all Jedi?!?!). But it really isn't worth that level of anger. Let it go.

Hmm, 2 years worth of work on a BE...equals a bonus to combat for what had been a non-combat toon...oh and don't forget the fact that if I respec to a combat toon I would maybe be level 20...
Yeah, that bonus is totally worth it!
Actually making this stament leads me to beleive LA has no idea what SOE is doing in the game.. "Tons of little elite bonuses" LIKE WHAT?!?!
I think that the "tons" is actually the "one" elder buff you got for mastering a profession Pre-NGE. They might also have been refering to the Jedi bonus of an extra crystal, robe and the Force Ghost ability for having unlocked pre-NGE.
So, a total of 4 elite bonuses. Can anyone think of one that I am missing?
Yes the card box and the crayons provided to the traders who can transform it into the box speeder the faster vehicles in the game!!!
WTH are you doing with my Cartman picture????
SOE knows what you like... You don't! And don't forget... I am forcing you to read this!
What SOE should have done, to save face and make everyone happy is make 3 NGE servers, see how they go and then make the choice to go full force with it.
Fresh and new ones.
I like the fact that people thought that the pre-cu game was to hard or to complex though, in a sad and yes (I know) messed up way it filtered out alot of players. (Younger ones most of the time) -- Sure it makes some people mad to hear it but that is the truth. NOW, this would explain why our playerbase and age demograph was more adult based. BUT the NGE and the goal of it was to gain and invite the younger playerbase. They had to make the game easier and less complex.
In a way I can say the same thing the NGErs do.. "The game now is different yada yada yada, it is easy and this is the way it is, deal with it or leave crap".
Back then we said "The game is hard, don't like it leave"... The problem here is - Just because somthing is EASY does not make it good or great to play.
In fact it seems that this backfired in such a way that almost the entire population wants things back from the past.
They have made giant blunders, I think we all agree on that but what they did that I THINK was unfair was think that we are all so mindless that we needed the game to be easier and without risk or reward, interdepency or even diversity.
When they took all of this away they took away the people and what made the game a SIM world of Star Wars -- or OF the Star Wars Universe. Uncle Owen was cool to be, because not everyone wanted to be him. I was happy as a Crafting, Bio Engy Chef.. in my own area, my own Star Wars Saga.. I was happy as a Jedi Knight in my own Star Wars Saga... I wore different clothes then other Jedi -- I had some skills that they did not have, I was diverse and I was different in my buffs used and foods used, I was different in style of combat and I was my own person that could be BY CHOICE part of a bigger picture..at times as a Knight....
But someone saw fit that I DID NOT NEED THIS NOR ENJOY IT... they chose to make us all clones and the same... they did not want me to be different, they did not want me to be myself in a SIM world of Star Wars... they did not want me to be a Knight, they did not want me to be a Bio Engy -- they thought ALL OF THIS OUT FOR ME... they chose to take away my in game freedom of choice, freedom of diversity, freedom of even the minor thing of the Skill or power I had, they took away my risks and replaced them with garbage, they took away the earned goals and items and replaced them with nothing useful, they took away each of our own individuality in the game for the striving less complex demgraph all in the name of greed..and it failed.
The people that play the game right now are different, they are... plain and simple. These people obvioulsy to not care that they can be different or should be, they do not care that they are not diverse or could have been, they do not care that they could have had risk vs reward with goals and achievments in mind, they do not care that they are NO DIFFERENT THEN the guy standing next to them other then a name, they do not care that they can no longer have or live thier own saga in the game anymore due to the fact it is now controled, they do not care that they are not in a SIM based Star Wars game and in a Shadowed Arcade type game with some multiplayer atirbutes.... IF THEY DID CARE we would not be here, we would be in the game on a server that was more of the old game then the NGE.. plain and simple.
The sad part about this is that now it's too late, there is no way to recover the thousands of players they ruined on the name and game... IF and I mean IF they did go back to Pre-CU or offer a few servers... sure they would fill up, but I can tell you that people would be very gunshy about it. Alot of old players would not comeback based on the track record, let alone they are known to be liars on a constant basis.
In the end what we have is somthing or a example of somthing that was never understood, never fully finished, never fully reached it's level that it could have because SOMEONE thought they knew better then the customers. I think it is safe to say that this person thought wrong.
Right now SWG is made up of people saying and asking What you cannot do in the game anymore instead of what you can do... that alone tells you the real status of the game.

No Never!
I was one of those nutjobs (still am) The idea of the force makes a lot of sense to me... Think about it.
The force is an Energy Field. Everything in reality is made up of energy. The very building blocks of atoms are made up of positive, negitive and neutral charges, which is pure energy. Everything you see, touch, taste and smell is all energy. You could say that the Force is that energy. Now are we able to use telekinesis? Not at the moment, maybe once we evolve better perceptions of existance, but atm no.
Physics teaches us that Energy can neither be created nor destroyed. The Martial Art called Kendo (practiced by the old Samurai) was very much identicle to Jedi and the ideas of the Force. I actually think George based his ideas on that religion.
Are you right on about your theroy as to why the idea changed from the first set of movies to the second set? Maybe, but in my humble opinion it is another instance of Hollywood trying to "modernize" things... something that really annoys me (Example would be the movie Spiderman... Those spiders were radioactive dammit not dna enhansed...) so I will keep my wits about me and continue with my road of mallace towards George and his treasonesk idea changes with the 2nd set of movies.

Lucas is known to have borrowed many Star Wars elements from all over the world - the samurai warriors of fuedal japan are known to be one of the inspiration sources for the Jedi concept. Star Wars is in essence a composite of world mythology (i.e., not all of it is fuedal Japanese bushido or kendo). He admitted this a long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away.

I am not afraid of different points of view... that is to say unless you tell me that my father was killed by some evil person and then it turns out that person and my father are the same... cause that will piss me off.
Besides that feel free to express your view of existance. I was a philosophy and biology major the first time I went to college... I love to hear what people think and feel. What I was saying about energy, though, isnt my opinion, its my understanding.
I sometimes have a hard time with forums. I make a joke or I am being sarcastic and people get the wrong idea. So when I read posts from others I try to keep in mind... "Did he write that while making a face at me or was he flipping me off..."
Tone can be hard to express at times, but I have found if you preface your responce by saying... Hey I don't mean to flame you but.... I think is reasonable. Though I do not know how the mods here would feel about it.
The midi-chlronine count didn't souly choose who was a jedi. It simply determined who was prone to being a force sensitive. It isn't the first known "technology" used in the star wars universe. Most star wars jedi followers aware of the great purge of the jedi following there slaughter also know that the Empire had a device to determine force sensitivity and used it to kill/imprison anyone it feared becoming a force-sensitive being.
A crazy hermit telling a Farm-boy from Tatooine that he had microscopic organice matter in his cells created by a mysterious energy source in his blood that allowed him to possess great power probably wouldn't have gone over to well. Explainations from Obi-wan the teacher where meant to keep the student focused on the important aspects of the lesson. What is key about the force? Midi-chlorines are just a further explanation for more advanced students to further understand controlling and using the force. You dont start with chemistry in grade school. Teaching the force is no different. Teach the fundamentals first. Luke's training with Obi-wan was nothing more. Luke was very old for an apprentice. Remember he has to be taught what every child learned about the force and the teaching was no different for Luke then what occurs for a 5 year old youngling. In role-playing it is no different. We start with some very basic exercises to determine how adapt you are to learning the mysterious of the force. How deep you are willing to go. Your hatred of the midi-chlorines shows a lack of knowledge seeking and understanding about the force. You allow a device that detects the force to change your perception from a very simple lesson of what is the force to allow the force to seem unreal. It would be as if you believed in God and the teaching of the bible and someone proved the world couldn't have been created in 6 days and was significantly older then the book says. You'd say, oh well that is it gotta get a new god or fix that part? Lessons are lessons and need to be taken in context. Force lessons are no different. You have yet to attain master status with the force.
Padawan learners be cautious when you are in the presense of someone who is a master. Youth is brash and bold with the pretext of possessing and knowing things they cannot comprehend or understand.
These devices where in star wars lore prior to midi-chlorines and the device in ep1 simply shows how it was determined who was worthy to be considered for training by the jedi and served to show how the empire post jedi purge went after force-sensitives as well.
Changing your viewpoints of the force over midi-chlorines is not all to wise. Here is it summarized from an article I acquired in my PC role-playing days from the Force.com
When a cell begins to generate its presence in the Force. It has its own special "signature" that it adds to the Force as a collective. The greater Force symbiotically adds a bit of itself to the cell by organizing organic matter at its most basic level into structures that are "in sync" with the Force. This manipulation of matter is the smallest manifestation of the Force possible, and also its most natural. Just as cells are the basic unit of life, so too is this interaction between life and the Force the base for all other interactions between an organism and the Force. And the amount of midi-chlorians generated would be proportional to the Force being created: the more Force a cell makes, the more midi-chlorians the Force produces in kind. Why it does that... Is still unknown, but its theorized that midi-chlorians are a kind of adaptation to the energies of the Force...
The Force exists beyond the limits of space and time. Midi-chlorians are a way for it to "reach out" into the physical realm that it originates from. Midi-chlorians are both a way for a living cell to be accommodated to the Force and also to encourage its continued growth so that the Force will thrive more. That's what midi-chlorians are: organic "strings" connecting every individual to the living Force, connecting them to the entire galaxy.
Since midi-chlorians are products of the Force, and our cells produce the Force, its theorized that the Force produces midi-chlorians as its cells, its organic representation. Every individual's presence in the Force comes across as being unique, just as every individual's identity in the Force remains unique after death. The Force is generating midi-chlorians within the cell, and each midi-chlorians is unique to that cell and that person. But all midi-chlorians have a kind of shared "sync" with the Force, because they all spring from the Force. Although it a bit of a stretch to say such, midi-chlorians are the closest thing that the living Force has to DNA, for the life-Force relationship seems to be keyed to this microscopic interaction just as our cells are dependent on DNA to encode their essence.
This physical basis for the Force-life relationship explains much. It would be the reason why a Jedi requires mental Peace of mind to feel the Force's flow through him or her. Midi-chlorians are the receptors to the Force but they are also a physical limitation of a sort: if they weren't there, the Force would flow unhindered, perhaps undisciplined through a person. Midi-chlorians are a "gateway" measure to keep things in balance. It's when a person needs the Force that a disciplined mind would allow for the Force to come as needed. If you allow doubt to cloud your ability to let the Force stream out of you great enough to say lift a rock with your mind you'll fail. A Force Master, because he has studied the Force and has faith in its abilities, has no such doubt: his midi-chlorians pour it on, allowing him to do the deed. It's not that you can't do it, but you won't allow yourself to let the Force do it for you

"Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience"

Ahh then Darth Smedly's plan is complete... you can strike him down with all your hatred and anger and your journey to the darkside will be complete...
Or you can just hit the cancel button and flip him off, yea he cant see u flipping him off but its the thought that counts
See I am still of the opinion that the CU-NGE was Lucas Arts solely. Isn't LA the ones who actually devolpe the game? SOE are just their lackies in this particular project...
Notice what an ego maniac George Lucas has become?

The idea for the NGE came within SOE. JFreeman was it's actual architect (he's gone now). Of course, LEC signed off on it. LEC does little to none of the actual development, their role is mainly to sign off on what SOE does.
I'm sure LEC signed off on it because they were told that free Jedi=1 million subs.

And I can't hate Qui-Gon for saying it cause he is a great actor and I am sure didn't have a choice...
Please you can't tell how powerful I am in the Force by a blood test... its just something you sense!

All I see them doing is blaming one of the best gaming communities I ever encountered for the reason there was no new player retention. And that is why I don't waste my time with the official Star Wars site.

Then you are seeing only what you want to see... Because Smed himself said that the NGE was NOT forced on them by SOE. And now this article confirms it further!

I'm not going there, it'd probably turn into or be perceived as a flame and I have no desire to flame you. I respect your right to have your own opinion on the subject.
Same.

Hehe about 3 years ago I was using vipersig on some forums I used and people were actually getting pissed at me and thought I was hacking them and posting their IP with smart ass comments for everyone to see just to mess with them. "How did you get my IP?" "I have to know how you got my IP" Funniest thing ever.
