I guess I would expect the "best" gear to roughly follow what they have been saying all along:
20% Solo/casual 60% Group 20% Raid
Meaning that - yes, if you want the "best" gear and you don't want to participate in one of the areas above - you are not going to have the "best".
Now, if after the game comes out and we find out that those percentages are all screwed up and indeed raiding produces a lot more than 20% - something like 25%+ then I would feel a bit cheated. But, then I suppose it comes down to how a person decides what's "best" for them. If they are correct on the number of items they are implementing, I'm not sure if you would get 5 people to agree what is the "best" item for each slot for a given class.
I'm hoping that you can get 100% of your "best" gear for Solo/casual from Solo/casual encounters. And 100% of your "best" gear for Grouping from Grouping encounters. And the same for Raiding. Not sure if that is what they have intended or not, but I would think that would be best.
I'd be satisfied if they did it by just the straight percentages they have been using - meaning the 20/60/20 split. I'd be disappointed if they followed older games and loaded most of the best stuff in Raiding.
The difference I think is that I am willing to WAIT and see for myself how it actually works out. I'll reserve judgement depending on how it effects my play-style. If, I think that the big guilds and the high-end raiding is getting a lot more than their share (meaning more than 20%) then I'll probably tire of Vanguard sooner rather than later and move onto another game.
I guess the part I don't understand though is if you know going into a game that they have said repeatedly - 20% WILL be raiding - what is there to complain about? You got exactly what was advertised. Perhaps someone can explain that to me. Because I don't get it.
