Slow Traveling in EVE :-/

coheed3coheed3 Member Posts: 20

i played the trial a while back.  and one thing that really irked me is the slowness of travel (and sometimes the overall game).

anyway, does the game start to move more quickly once you get better ships etc.  i wanna give EVE another shot.

I'm new myself to the game, but have already seen an increase in the speed in which I travel, so yes, it does improve. Though, unless I'm doing courier missions, I hardly find myself traveling very far at all. You usual center most of your playing around a specific area.

There's also jump clones which can help a lot. You just have to visit a friendly 0.0 outpost/starbase to get started.

And courier missions....DON'T....DO....COURIER MISSIONS, unless it's something you do while AFK. It's better to seek out agents that give out predominantly kill missions.

It all depends on what you do.

For me, the game is really slow during the week when I rebuild my faction standings.  But, on the weekends, it gets very exciting because that's when I destroy my sec rating.

We can agree to disagree, or we can bicker constantly... either way, I'm right.

The starter ship is pretty slow and has no low slots to put injectors in. As you play and skill your toon, you will see huge boosts in speed.

If the courier mission is a deliver a report type mission or anything under 100 m3 I can do them very fast with a frigate. 3100 ms cap speed with navigation skills and a few injectors in low slots is easy. It also makes the 12km run a 4 second affair.

Don't always look at top speed of a ship, look at low slot count too. If a ship has a 15 ms top speed, lower than another one but has 2 extra low slots, you have room for 2 more injectors and that means 68 ms bonus potential. So you need to look at attributes when you buy a ship. Top speed and low slot. Know how to et up for runs and know your not in any position to fight when set up that way. Avoid low sec and ignore your firepower. Your a courie. Bike couriers don't carry machine guns.. most.

For the true noob, never do your 8 courier missions at the start in the noob ship. Buy a shuttle. It is much faster and warps out quick in autopilot. One of the missions in the caldari starter required I make 2 trips on one mission and it still seemed faster than the ibis.

    A few tips.

Courier missions are meant to be slow as you need to haul a lot over larg distances [its why they can give so much reward wise in higher levels]

Work within a small are of eve near a local trade hub then you dont need to travel to far to get what you need.

Navigation skill increases your base speed by 5% per level

    Certain modules  also increase speed...

    Afterburner [speed booster]

Micro Warp Drive [Better Speed Booster]

    Nanofibres [ increase base speed]

With this knoledge i can travel to a gate in 4-6 seconds thanks to certain modules and Navigation skills.

I think a limit on travel times/speeds in mmorpg's is good though, it builds immersion even though it is fustrating at times.

I feel sorry for those peeps who fly those Obelisk things, now they are slow.(though not too sorry since they are very expensive and an indication of a degree of wealth in the game hehe)

The game will start to move quickly once you engage your brain and ask yourself why you need to travel all over the universe when most things are within a couple of minutes travel.

Yes, courier missions (both player and NPC) will ask you to do a lot of travelling, and for some it is a relaxing way to unwind like mining, but you are never REQUIRED to travel, as many on here try and argue, and I think that is the point that Jhughesy is trying to argue.

I agree, the travelling can be very slow. The upside is if you're only travelling in safe space, you can go afk while jumping, and you can just watching TV or something.

I can only add that you can also get Bookmarks for all regions now i think, they can be expensive (about 10mil per region) but you can end up buying a load of random bookmarks to nowhere (from a scammer). Most Corps. offer them to their members nowadays, so you could get them that way if you like. Btw, these Bookmarks are created by players 10-15km from the gate you're coming from, they're not some skill or module you buy from the market.

Actually you make them 13km from the gate [Trust me ive been making them for 3 years now]

    1. arrive at gate.

    2. drop a cargo can to use for alligning.

    3. go behind the gate 13 km making sure the can is on other side and exactly alligned to you and the gate.

    4. Make bookmark.

If you did it right it should drop you perfectly on the gate.

    aahhhhhh a cargo can..

I have been aligning the gate icon with the jump source icon, but they get grouped together in a list sometimes, so a can would be easier, thanks LordSlater

Actually using the source gates icon as the jump in marker can be even better than a can it really depends on the situation.

But remember most importantly make it at 13 km due to random warp in point.

I just spam the max velocity coming out of warp. In a small frig or a shuttle, you will usually (99%) sweep the top of the gate and keep on going. If I am doing 625 or near at 10km the other side, I hit stop ship and by 12.5 ish the ship stops. Book Mark and head back to the gate. You can't allow your ship to stop to do this though or you will balance off and often fly above or below the gate as much as 7 km away.
  • janjansonjanjanson Member Posts: 201

Nice one I will try that, I think I have to just use one ship for making my bookmarks, I think I will use a shuttle then I can get used to it's speed/handling for the timing you mentioned etc, and a shuttle is disposable for low sec bookies.

At the moment it takes me ages to make a good bookmark, aligning and overshooting turning round loosing the alignment hehe, would be cool if I could do it in one pass like that

  • LordSlaterLordSlater Member Posts: 2,087

Actually shuttles are pretty good for bookmark making they are fast and disposable and cost less than most cheap modules.

Also when making bookmarks dont fly at full speed....    You will see why.

now the down side.  one you must make and or buy these,  and two you set you route and must do every jump by hand,  NO AUTOPILOT.    of course when you live in 0.0 this is the best way to do it. the alternative normally means pirat chow.

use a shuttle if you are making these.
I prefer to buy them and trade the sets with my friends..   I buy X  they buy Y trade

    yeah
I am not parinoid I KNOW THEY ARE out to get me..

I have a supplier who have never sold me bad BM's..  I have bought a number of sets from him as well.
also I have a few people int he corp who will go to areas in cov ops and scout out combat zones and bm the heck out of the area first.

I have BM's for all my primary operatiing areas,  when you are in a battleship or a freighter you will understand the time savings more.   15000m  -2500 (jump range) = 12500m @ 136 mps = WOW  91 seconds per jump
with bm's  I land on the gate and jump   now think about doing 25-30 jumps like that..

Instead of warping 15km from a gate, a BM will allow you to warp directly on top of the gate for an instant jump. That simple really. :)

i have been playing eve for just over four months now and im in a good corp but any way yes the travel is fairly slow for someone that doesnt know wat they are doin really i mean noobs and that travel will be the thing that pisses them off but either go out by your self and create jump clones or get into a corp. most corps will help you haul things so you do not have to make multiple trips and if it isnt a small corp they should have the resources to buy or already have brought BM's for entire regoins my corp has bookmarks for most of empire and a fair amount of 0.0 they are a real time saver while you cant autopilot and go afk you can sit there and cut the time down by a good 2-3 minutes per system which if your doin 15 jumps that a save of half an hour in a hauler or very slow ship.

tech 2 AB and MWD help alot but if you are expecting a fight DO NOT equip a micro warp drive wen you use it in battle it increases your sig radius 5 TIMES.
