I'm still stuck on how the OP played since beta 6 and never figured out how the game worked.

You may want to check the original date for this crusty old necro thread.

My fault - apologies... another thread was discussing early Eve days, I went back in time to read some threads from then - and a little devil made me necromance.

Sorry but then uit's better you quit. Go play some carebear MMORPG like FF XI without any PVP.
(Not saying it's bad. It isn't at all)
Eve is a great game and i am part of oneof those alliances you speak of. I am no sociopath. We just try to defend a spot of place we claimed. We do this because WE want the asteroids in it and we don't want that others mine them instead of us.
    WTF is wrong with that?
This game is about killing eachother. You don't mine to get a BATTLEship so you can look at it or mine even faster.
    It's meant to goto BATTLE!

EVE Online PVP stinks ,PVP only happens in like what 2 places?  PLexes and some gates? Maybe a few at POS. Rest are cloakers sitting off in safespots doing nothing. OHH , the Local channel is CCP's free packet sniffer that tells ,who what and how much lvl/skill points someone has thats in the same system?

No skill in that. makes all those probes useless and only for carebears to find pve.

Then its a lag fest with blobs.  EVE online PVP gets a 4 out of 10 at best.

There is no game mechanic that stops another player from ganking anyone they like, anywhere they like, just for the hell of it, except in the so-called "high security areas".  The only problem with the high sec areas is that they are totally devoid of resources (asteroids), all the decent stuff is in the griefer areas, or has been locked down by alliances of players who list you as Kill On Sight if you enter "their" systems.  The net result of all this is the alliances get fatter gathering the resources of the areas they have locked down while the griefers get fatter killing and stealing items from other players.  Meanwhile, casual players like myself cannot make headway to develop their characters in any meaningful way.  It totally sucks.
I won't start ranting about Virtual Sociopaths (phrase of the month for me), but Eve has attracted great hoards of them, due to "griefing" being IN the game mechanic right from the outset.  Players get bored and become "pirates", killing anything they see just because they can.  All the while, these players are advancing their characters with little to loose, while those they kill are constantly set back in development.
I used to love playing Eve, but it seems wrong to waste so much time trying to achieve the smallest things in a game only for a VS (virtual sociopath) to take it away from you for no reason other than their own desire to spread misery throughout the universe.
If you want to enjoy your game-time, don't buy into it until they have fixed these things (for example, making pvp consensual - allowing "pirating" with special game mechanics such as a "demand toll" or "demand payment" button.  Removing the "gank wherever you like" mechanisms.

I have an idea, try joining a corporation with some locked down zones, this way you may be able of developing your character. Im sure in exchange you will need to help them from time to time, but you may find it fun too.

Really, just an idea to try to help you.

What were you doing in low sec/0.0 space alone in the first place? You walk into a warzone in your hauler, get shot and complain? And how are the people that killed you - that possibly own the area - supposed to know that you are not a spy or some kind of thief or informer? Do you expect to be welcome?

"Oh, hello mister new player. Come, have fun in our constellation. We spent 100billion to conquer it. Come and mine our resources. Come and place your sell orders. We would be grateful to allow you to exploit our region for free. You are so welcome..."

EVE has real social and market dynamics. Just because a "zone" is there does not mean that all 300k+ subscribers should go there and have solo-fun. It is not WoW. So as the rest of the ppl told you, join an alliance, help them and they will help you discover the game. And apart of that there is plenty of content and opportunities to do interesting stuff in the empire.

WOW! you're asking for an entire game revamp. I'm sorry that you didn't enjoy the game but imo the game doesn't need to be fixxed.

Why didnt you try to join a 0.0 corp so you could mine the best ores? Your complaining about getting ganked in low sec even though you knew this would happen? you could of easily stayed in high sec and made an incredible amount of isk farming Kernite, veld and other ores.

You want to add consensual pvp in Eve? are you trolling us here? I don't really have anything more to add what your asking is freaking crazy.

Geez, this thread is over 4 years old.  A bit late to railing at the OP don't ya think?

  • EschiavaEschiava Member Posts: 485

Sorry, didn't read the whole thread so, if this has already been siad, my bad.

I have said since I started playing to those who complain about not being able to mine anywhere they want to any time they want to:  Yes, you an mine in low sec if you want to, but you can't do it alone.  You can do it if you do it the EVE way though.  The EVE way is to take a security force along with you so that you can destroy those who would destroy you.  Don't have a security force to do that with?  Well, again, the EVE way offers an answer.  Join a corp that mines in low sec and has a security force.

In EVE, there is always a way.  And, you're right, if you insist on solo mining in low sec (or on beating your head against a wall) you're going to get bloodied.  But no one is forcing you to do either.
