I'm sure it's been pointed out a zillion times, but it's amazing how much this game looks like EQ2. I know the history that connects the two and all, but it's in everything. The architecture, character designs, even the texturing.
I've played EQ2, and the games are NOTHING alike, besides the fantasy aspect. Not even close.
This is not a Dis to EQ2, just an observation. The world design itself is completely different, as well as combat & rule-set. Granted, I have a good Friend in Beta, and a while back he invited me over to watch him play, so I've seen the mechanics. There are some short Vid's out there that show the Mechanics if you haven't seen them.
The EQ2 Graphics are also a bit Cartoonie. The Visual Look of Vangaurd is completely different. Personally, I think the only Graphical simularity is the Fantasy Concept.
I still haven't played the game, but I wouldn't make a statement like this until Bets 3 starts.
I'll start my own SWG... with Black Jack... and Hookers!!!

The characters all have sort of bulbous, larger-than-reality heads like EQ2 and the skin is sort of realistic, but not quite so that people look like dolls. . . also like EQ 2. It's the same fantasy setting, and thus a lot of the architecture is the same, etc. etc.
Vanguard's graphics as shown in screenshots (not what was actually being played at E3 - the graphics I saw there - in the live game - were poor) are much better than EQ2's, but I think the original poster is correct that they share a similar artistic style. Maybe it is the same artistic director as EQ2's.

I just don't see it. EQ2's colors and world is bright & Cartoonie IMO, where as VSoH seems darker and more gritty. I definatly don't see the head thing. As far as the world goes, VSoH seems more Dark Ages than EQ2's complete Fantasy.
Regarding the graphics, that's what I saw as well. The Beta Client seems to not be quite as up to par as the offical Screenies show, but it still looks good IMO.

Well, the head size is customizeable, so it's probably just how that person made that character...
The skin color is also customizeable, but if you are talking about that semi-glossy look to it, I can't account for that.

1) I wouldn't personally call it Archetype, but if you choose to you can also compare a dozen other games as "similar" class structures.
2) They do have combo's, but a) they are not finishing move and b) there again, dozens of games with combo tactics.

Well didnt play eq2 past the trial period and its been since the $oe announcement that i last saw vanguard but the two struck me as very similar in both look and feel. No idea what eq2 looks or feels like now but i would imagine vanguard changing alot by release in regards to feel.

Are you sure you're not thinking about WoW??? This one has nothing to do with opinion. The graphics ARE very similar (at least in still shots). If you dont see that, something is wrong.
You're telling me you REALLY see some kind of dramatic difference there and the second screenshot somehow looks "cartoony and bright" whereas the first one doesnt? They look the same man.
THIS is bright and cartoony (although still awesome, IMHO):
If you continue to scroll through the screenshots from your links - then YES - I think there is a difference. Look at the size of the hands from EQ2 compared to Vanguard. Definitely a difference. The size of the bodies and extremities are more realistic in Vanguard. The trees and vegetation is more realistic as well. I also like the texturing of the houses and dungeon wells better.

In a superficial way, but not more than that.
