they are switching because there are less players...... and less players posting....

Actually, that is incorrect.

There are about the same amount of posts per day as there were 2 years ago.

    I can believe that.

2 years ago, it was more about the game, whereas now it's about trolling the forums.

  • kb056kb056 Member CommonPosts: 423

2 years ago there were more players but they were actually playing the game and had less to complain about so less posting needed..

Now,there are fewer players and alot more to complain about, therefore alot more posting per player.

So,yeah,I would say the posting is about the same as 2 years ago.

To bad the forums dont stand for a damn thing.

Maybe there are the same amount of post as there were 2 years ago...in fact, maybe there are even more post because rather than happily playing the game, people are posting gripes about the game instead.  True there are fewer people playing the game today, the SOE employee didn't even try arguing that one, but a higher percentage of players are probably posting plus people who no longer playing the game are posting in hopes that SOE will improve (aka pre-CU) the game.

I actually sorta tracked it. On the General forum, it has gone from 2- minutes for Pre-Cu (when up) to 10 minutes CU to 20-30 minutes NGE for the 20 post history to fill up on the General Forum.

If inclined, I could pull actual numbers. (another method - Posts terminating in a month would be easier to obtain)

Don't know...post bumpage in the GAT is now on the level of an Artform.

I had 16k posts before my Main account expired and about 4k on my secondary account.

My 3rd account only had 1500 or so.

Alot of people still paying to post only, and get the occaasional vet reward.  Alot of the pure posters still play on TC also, to see whats new and if its worth telling their buddies about.

Someone here, Shayde I think but I may be wrong, is familiar with the forum system they're moving too and believes they are going to a members-only forum system.  This would mean those of us who no longer have a subscription cannot read the SWG forums.  I myself know little about the various forum systems, but the source was knowledgable and the explanation is consistent with what I have come to expect from $OE.

If they go that direction, then I will just start using the some of the 15 game cards I got from my brother last Birthday. Pfft...no worries if I can't troll the forums.  I can probably find a way in from the back end.

Question for V is how many more are deleted on a daily basis compared to 2 years ago?

    Forum activity is kinda constant.

I made a little html scraper that tracked the number of posts and members, and it's rather constant. It's also interesting to see how activity spikes during various hours, when people in different time-zones come from work, get up in the morning and similar.

But the real reason they are moving is to prepare for the new station pass thingy, to get rid of old press (oops, something went wrong in forum migration, we apologize, but posts are lost). Old forums and old posts will most likely end up like the pre-NGE forums.

Anyone even remotely hinting that the number of people posting on the "Official SWG Forum" has remain constant has NO clue.

The numbers of people posting 2 years ago was significantly higher than today.

The ratio of people posting to the number of people playing may be constant. But that is where the similarities end.

2 years ago a post would have filled up quickly and you would never see any post that only had single digit replies.

Today many posts do not get many more than 10-20 replies and I have seen quite a few with less than 10 or even no replies. Occasionally you will see some posts creep over 100 but that is usually due to flame wars going on.

I challenge anyone to find a post since the beginning of the year with 24,000 to 26,000 replies. Yup I said 24K to 26K because the REAL popular posts (guides/spoilers) 2 years ago had that many people posting. Posts pertaining to JTL, the Village, Jedi, all had massive numbers of people posting.

It only stands to reason that the ratio of people playing to the number of people posting remains constant ... but the actual numbers of posts will be less as the server population dwindles.

I would also venture to say that the number of people viewing a post has gone down with the decline of the  number of people playing. I know that many posts had over 300K-400K and up to 600K views 2 years ago.

I just did a search and could not find any posts with 24K-26K replies. My guess is they have been removed ... prolly due to not being accurate anymore. BUT .. this clicky shows some post with 500K to 600K views ... the posts are dated '04.

From what i can tell of the individual galaxy forums, yes they are alot slower than 2 years ago. The general forums tho, seem just as busy, mostly from unhappy players who pay soe to troll.

Its possible but based on two different things thats for sure.

Crap I know people that pay just to post... no joke.   They dont log in..lol

Sad when the forums is more of a game then the game itself lol.

Well it ranks up there but id have to say that Smedleys 5 million new subscribers becasue of NGE is the biggest one in my books anyways. Yes everyone get ready for DAS SOE RIECHE forums only people that pay there $15 towards the RIECHE can see the forums and how geat the virtual nazis are doing. Hell i saw some cancelling over CSR bieng pissy and changing someones name who had there name for 2 years and they got nothing better to do like fix the game or bugs so well crack down on this harcore violation breaker with his name give me a break. Hopefull more people will wake up and stop being paying beta testers.

If they do a members only forum-they did have one for awhile early on so its a backwards move-shocker.  Plenty of us have accounts and we can grab the juicy stuff and post it over here.  Not that there is ever much that is interesting.
