You may as well have titled the thread "ONLY PEOPLE BIAS TO MAKING ME PLAY THE GAME POST!".
Completely depends on why you left and what aspects of the game you enjoyed before.

SWG ADDICT...clean since the NGE
I patiently tried to stick it out with the NGE until 6/25/2006 or so. Would I qualify to answer?
If so my opinion is not really. It has a knee jerk interface. Some people think it is more engaging to have your keymashing limited to one or two moves, as if you are not capable of thinking ahead. And as if the interface was actually responsive 100% of the time. I personally don't.
The marriage of this interface & lag = frustration as you watch yourself die despite pressing heal 2 or 3 seconds ago. Then while you are unconscious the heal goes off and you are not allowed to heal yourself for a while after you get back up with 0 health and the enemy is standing right there. (The Fanbois will blame my PC for the lag...don't bother. 2GB RAM, RAID 0 striped SATA2 hard drives for speed, AMD Athlon 4400 Dual Core CPU, reliable 1.5MB down / 384K up DSL that burps maybe once a week.)
They recently tweaked the terrain "to look better". People started seeing tiled pictures of palm trees on the beaches near Kadaara, and you could use the ground at the Endor starports as a bumpy mirror. For over a month they denied there was anything wrong. Then they blamed it on everybody having old video cards. As of the time I quit, it still was not right. I use a very mainstream video card too: NVidia GeForce 6600 LE. Not the absolute best, but no slouch either and VERY capable.
The game is replete with this kind of stupidity. Instead of fixing these bugs they add lag to the system by pushing forward poorly tested playgrounds like Restuss. If they did read the bug reports submitted during testing they did NOTHING about them.
XP is constantly becoming harder and harder to get, as they desperately try to stop people from reaching CL 90 and realizing there is nothing left to do.
The game becomes worse with every publish/chapter. I used to be a staunch supporter of SWG, and I displayed my patience by playing even after they changed the core system twice.
All that being said, I think they have a trial going on again. My advice is to bust your hump and get off the tutorial station quickly, because the tutorial is not any indication of what the game is really like.

Well, the game still isnt finished. They are at present changing the targetting system again to a an actual target lock that we used to have. They are implementing skill trees extremely similar to WoW. Only available to Jedi and Bounty HUnters initally so from there you will see imbalances in pve/pvp until they get that sorted out. I would wait til well after they get all the expertise systems in and get the tweaked and thought out.
Specials and heals still fail in combat.
There is still massive lag.
There are still a ton of quest bugs and other bugs.
There is still a lack of direction from the developers.
There is still a sever lack of community on alot of servers.
They have hinted at revamping crafting and making them secondary professions(possibly).
The main point being that if you enjoy working towards a goal only to have it either removed from the game or handed out like candy then I would suggest go ahead and play. There are no guarantees at this point that anything you do, achieve, or earn will remain yours. SOE has absolutely no qualms about taking what you have worked for and crushing it into the ground in the effort of making the game more "iconic, starwarsy and dumbed down" for the rest of soceity.
I would wait at least a year... no kidding.
Did you leave because you didn't like the switch to twitch combat or the removal of the skillpoint system?
Then the answer is no.
Did you leave because the NGE felt too bug ridden and unfinished to be playable?
Then the answer is maybe -- it's playable now, but it still feels a step or three away from being a "finished" product.

This game is intended for your demographic and those younger than you. I highly recommend you play this game.

There is an easy solution to your question, try out the trail and see if you like it, if you do like it then have fun, if you do not like it then you don’t have to play, either way you will have your answer. Thank you for your time.
