Is it too late to be new

Is it too late to start EQ from the start?

My first MMO was EQOA and I loved that game to death. I then moved on to FFXI (while waiting for EQ2). I then  tried EQ2 but only played it for 2 months. Then pressure got to me and I "tried" WoW (3-4 weeks). So I went back to EQOA and found that all my friends had left and felt lost without them. I moved back to FFXI with my LS and continued on.

I love the lore, char, and classes of EQ (from EQOA) and thought EQ2 would be my thing but it was not. The community isn't there. I really don't like soloing all that much and I like games that take skill.

Try out the progression servers, I've seen a lot of new people on there that are just starting out the game, plus you get to experience it all (sort of) from the start

Listen Jizu, Everquest is (in my opinion) the best PVE game out there, even with its age. Simply newer graphics, pvp, and other niches have taken away its dominance. I wish you the best of luck Jizu, have fun.

EQ is probably your game, then.  Give it a whirl.

Being a new player, though, I'd suggest going to the progression servers.  You're more apt to find lower levels to group with.

I highly recommend the progression servers. While there are lots of people who have no job who have already attained level 50, there are just TONS of lowbies in every starting city. Last night there were 60 players in lavastrom at 3am pst! It's packed.

It is too late to start new, a couple years too late.

The progression servers are not classic, as they have a lot of features that were added later which ruin the original game.

All those level 50 players do have jobs, they are gold farmers.
