EVE income skills?

LummoxLummox Member Posts: 32

I am starting this game and have read through much of the website literature, but to establish a background...

from a World of Warcraft (WOW)perspective I have some concerns about crafting and skills.  WOW had many crafting skills (armor smitth, weapon smith, enchanting).  In a “new” server, if you were one of the higher skilled players on the server, you could make good money.  If you were the first to get a unique recipe, you could make tons of money.  As the server got older and more established, armor smithing and weapon smithing, and even enchanting were not the big money makers they once were.  Mainly because each prospective buyer simply went to their guildmates (all guilds had experts in several areas) and didn’t charge any overhead.  In fact, these creation skills turned into more of money sinks.  In WOW now, if a new player came to an older server now and wanted to make money, I would recommend Herbalism and skinning (to sell on Auction House).  Basically world restoring resources that feed other items, potions, armor, weapons, etc.. always sell.

What is the comparison in Eve?  I assume some of the crafting is not a good income choice for the same reasons as above. Would I do ok with mining, or is there such a flood of minerals that I can’t make money?

What income sources would you recommend to a new player with no contacts?

Crafting / producing in EVE is abit diff then WOW

I should start gathering "raw materials = ores" Mining skills
at first if you into production that is.

If you aint into that line skipp those skill and main focus on PVP instead.

->mail me mail<- if you need some more "tips"

Not only is the "crafting" in EVE different, but also the Market. Whereas in WoW you have the Auction House as main trading hub, in EVE you have dozens of regions with their own market. This means that even if you have a very young character you can make some nice profit, if you find a niche market. This requires a bit of initial research though. Generally the production and trading in EVE is more open than in WoW, leaving more possibilities for the daring and the perceptive.
