Guild wars graphics are 2D textures painted on 3D mesh, while EQ2 graphics are true 3D, in that sense 2D graphics usually looks better when you look at them in one angle, but they don't have the 3D perspective or the depth.

It depends on how you look at it. I always prefer 3D graphics than 2D stuff. So, my vote goes to EQ2 graphics.

    Still trolling eh Scara?

EQ2's graphics are far superior to WoW's.  Why would they downgrade? :)

Everquest 2 simply blows Guild Wars's Graphics out of the water. the only thing guild wars wins are the character art, and even that isn't really something to write home about.

    Its a complicated question

Lets say we are using the same exact computer for both games, these would be the results

    Best screenshot: EQ2
Its a really pretty game, frozen.

    Best Graphics/Framerate ratio: GW
Why? Because GW is instanced, thus it takes less work to generate good graphics, even with its mediocre/high system requirements. EQ2, which has very high system requirements, would probably have constant framerate drops, thus not looking as pretty as guildwars during a big battle sequence.

To the people who keep saying "Guildwars is instanced unlike EQ2"... EQ2 is an entirely instanced game also.  Once a maximum population level is reached in a zone, the zone spawns another instance of itself.  EQ2 instances hold more people than Guildwars instances (except the cities), and in EQ2 you don't choose who is in the instance you are in, because it's not just based on your party.  Guildwars has private instances, EQ2's outdoor zones are public instances. However, -both- games -are- instanced.

Also, in this day and age where most graphics processing is offloaded onto your GPU, the entire "this game can have better graphics than that game becuse this game is instanced and that one isn't" argument doesn't hold a lot of water to begin with.

This doesn't change my opinion that the "which has better graphics: EQ2 or GW" argument is a silly argument and that both games are pretty in different ways :)

Didn't see a need to quote the pictures.  Go look at the OP to see them...

    To the OP:
Next time you compare graphics compare both games at minimum or both games at maximum settings.  Your screenshot of Guild Wars is at max settings.  Your screenshot of EQ2 is at minimum settings.

Both games have excellent environmental graphics.  Guild Wars has slightly better environmentals and far better character graphics.  EQ's character graphics look like plastic figurines.  But EQ2's animations are worlds better than Guild Wars.

Both games have excellent graphics and why anyone would be arguing over "which is better" is beyond me.  Arguing which graphics are "better" is silly as it's all subjective.  Some people like one style while others like another.  Even very minor differences in artwork can attract a vastly different audience.

hey... how should i know thats eq2 at minimum settings? i took both pictures from the mmorpg.com screenshots :P

and neo u finally posted a few better pics :P

    guild wars.

simply because the artistry in the game is incredible.  EQ2, while having a fantastic potential for great graphics, has piss poor artistry. everything is very vanilla in EQ2

I don't have to look at a movie. I have played both games. Have you played GW or EQ2? If you haven't then don't compare by looking at a screenshot.

Here's what I can tell you for sure.  I don't have the best video card in the world (GeForce 6600 GT OC), so when I go to fire up Everquest 2 my settings hover around the medium to low high (there's an oxymoron for you) video setting.  Not super great but not super bad.  On guild wars, I can have every setting up to MAX and it looks beautiful (LAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA).

So from my own personal experience, Guild Wars is the better looking game just on my own personal computer.

Now I've seen lots of screenshots at the maximum setting (someone posted a nice one on page 2 of this forum I think) and they look amazing for Everquest 2.  But unfortunately it's all just screenshots to me.  To me it's like trying to prove whether or not that PS3 Killzone trailer was realtime or not.  Seeing graphics that nice for Everquest is just so foreign to me right now since I can't afford a top of the line video card.  Sometimes I cry, other times I just go watch TV and have a nice cup of Orange Juice (OJ if you will).

Just the type of response I'd expect from an EQ fan.  I'm suprised you didn't start mentioning polygons.

So quick question to this snapshot you posted (which looks great)... What video card are you using, are you at max setting on this, and if so are you still able to get 30 frames per second or do you drop to like 15 to low 20's?

I'm just curious for Everquest 2 players out there who can run the game at the maximum setting what type of video card they are using to get at least 30 frames per second at the highest.  I mean I could turn my game to maximum but then i get like 7 frames per second.

Imho there is no question.. EQ2.. although it might suck on your average PC setup, slap some hardcore $5k custom or pro setup, then EQ2 rocks GW to the ground.

PLUS EQ2's graphics will get better as better equipment, PC wise, comes out but for now i'd say they were neck n neck.

I think that's a problem nowadays.  I mean I'm not going to drop 5k into a computer so I can play a few games at the maximum setting.  And it's sad because most of us will miss out on some games that would look STUNNING if we could run them.

Off subject, who here really went out and bought Oblivion and ran it on max settings on their PC and how many thought it would just be a lot easier not to bother and just buy the x360 version and play it.

Did anyone Read this article btw.  Very interesting read:

    Epic vs Intel

Now that the XBOX 360 and the soon to come PS3 have USB and Bluetooth support, maybe they should start considering porting MMO games to these machines (heck even FPS games) with keyboard and mouse support and have them share the same servers as there PC counterparts (FFXI, I always thought that was a brilliant move of them even though I don't particulary enjoy the game).

I'm sure what I said though might just piss off a bunch of PC users!

I get what you're saying, and I myself am very reluctant to fork out so much for a setup, mine cost about $800 and aint planning to spend anymore atm as it aint needed, but that doesn't excuse the fact that EQ2 initially does have better graphics ;)

And yeah I wanna get an Xbox 360, as soon as I get enough money - got myself a job at sainsbury's o/  because atm it runs like shit when I play it as high quality and definition as the xbox 360 gas

Personally that's why console gaming always appealed to me more.

Computers confuse me, and it seems like you always have to have the "next big update" in order to truly enjoy anything.

But honestly...with the price of the Playstation 3 and a few games, I could easily buy a decent computer.

A PS3 will still be cheaper than a your Top of the line PC and with the included Blu-Ray Player and HDMI outputs for movie playback... yeah it might be more expensive than an x360 but still gonna be cheaper than a PC like I said.
