Got my first combat mission to kill rogue drones. When I got there, there were 5 of them. When I did a show info, threat level was “moderate”.
Sounded pretty easy to me…they are just drones (tin cans with weapons) they royally kicked my ass.
I’ve been kind of focusing on mining, so a lot of my skills are dedicated to that. I’ve got a Gallente Navitas (spelling??) with Gunnery lvl 2, Small Hybrid Turrent II, I’m using civilian shield (I know that is bad). During, the fight I noticed I kept missing.
I think my weapons are ok. I know my shield needs to be upgraded. I am more interested in some of the skills that would help me not miss (if there are any). Are there any other skill lines I should look at? (I am thinking evasive maneuvers, dodging, etc...)
Lastly, any guide for this?

http://www.eve-online.com/guide/en/g26.asp <---- will answer all your questions in reguard to why you keep on missing. Learn it, know it, use it.
As for your tanking skills, well gallenti use mostly armor tanks late game. However you can spend some time learning skills for shield tanking as well. First and foremost will be your shield upgrades skill as well as your shield operations skills. Two of those will let you use better shield boosters as well as shield extendres.
because they move quick, drones can be some of the toughest targets to hit for a low SP character - rather than using orbit at x range, use keep at x distance where x is the optimum range of your guns - that'll help lower transvertial velocity a little and improve hits.
Also, fit a webbifier - they're low cost both in terms of skill and isk and make hitting fast targets a breeze.
As Urza says, gallente ships tend to favour armour tanking rather than shield - pop a small armour repper in a low slot and drop the shield booster for a webber (as above) and a cap recharger. Add either some adaptive nano resistance plating or a thicker armour plate in the remaining low slot and a couple of rail guns or (my preferance) blasters in the highs.
Also bear in mind that the Navitas isn't ideal for combat - get gallente frigate up to 3 and grab an incursus or if you can't wait - a Maulus which has an extra med and low slot.
