Final Fantasy for the Non-Voice IP Player

in Final Fantasy XI

Hello.

Would you recommend this game to someone who uses text chat only?

Are there major portions of the game that are inaccessable to someone who uses text chat only?

    Final Fantasy XI doesn't even have voice chat from what I know. It's only text chat.

    i dont know of a single MMo that forces you to use Voice chat in fact I know of very few that have built in Voice chat. Why you are looking for one that bans its use is beyond me..dont like it..dont use it.

    That is the choice I have to make, because there is no game that bans voice apps.  This is why I'm asking the people here that know something about FF XI, so I have a better idea what game may be right for not only myself, but anyone else who cannot or will not use voice apps.

    Nobody uses Vent or Teamspeak on FFXI, no reason to.

    Not true, They're used in LSs for fun, or to easilly communicate when you're doing an Mission, HNM or somthing of that sort.

    I see what the OP is getting at since I was pressured to get on Ventrilo when I was a guild officer in WoW, and it helped communication a little, but ultimately not much since there were always a few in the party/raid who weren't on it, so there ended up being a bit of confusion in most instances.  I haven't used voice chat in FFXI, and it seems like there really isn't a whole lot of need to do it as has been stated above.  Communication is apparently good enough over text.  I'm sure it's not easy getting Ventrilo to work on a PS2, as well, let alone chatting with a Japanese player without at least some form of Stephen Hawking-style autotranslate voice function.

    Well, ya know what? I'm on diabolos and the past few LS's I've been in use it. So now you have heard of it. Unicorn must be low tech, still stuck in the darkages. :(

    ...anyway, the discussion of Rome aside,

    When I used to play FFXI no one I knew used voice chat. Personally I would love to use Vent or TS, but the truth is it's probably more trouble than it's worth for FFXI.

    One big deterrent (for me and my friends, at least) about using Vent/TS for FFXI is that you can't alt-tab out of the game -_-... it's pretty stupid since we'd often switch rooms/options/volume/silence people on voice chat, but with FFXI we have to log off the game first just to do those things and it can be very, very annoying.
    Also, Vent/TS are not the most stable programs ever, I've had them crash (e.g. suddenly stop working, closes itself, some setting gets messed up) once in a while and it would suck to not be able to restart it if you are in the middle of an intense mission.

    the closeest thing to a voice chat i got to was the using private chat over xbox live on th e 360 and that was with only one person an dthus was a little confusing
