Looking for a game with a good Thief class.

Hey guys,

I'm an old school MUD player and one of my favorite games of all time was the Quest For Glory series, where I would always play the thief character.

Lately in games, all I can find are "rogue" classes that only focus on agility and combat and very little of actual thieving such as lock picking, pick pocketing, stealing and being out of sight. Not to mention making a buck on someone elses hard work, like a real thief should. I prefer the subtle aspects of the class instead of the flashy dagger wielding tornados that people have made Rogues into...just make a ninja class already.

Any games out there you guys might point me to?

Thanks!

Try playing the thief games? Not many MMOs have a thief class because of lack of diversity. Hence the melding with the rogue class ::::21::

Play Elder Scroll Oblivion until they do.  It also has a cool thief system.

I think Dungeons & Dragons Online rogue class comes pretty close to that.

Yeah, I liked those games, too. I still remember killing myself by ramming my lockpick up my nose. Good times, good times...  Yeah, I'm sorry, man, but I don't know of any games with a good theif class...

Dude I saw this post and thought of Quest For Glory. That is one of my favorite games. #5 was my fav. The people in The hideout were funny. Im only 13 though so you dont have to be older to like the series. A good game is BOulders Gate 2: Shadows of Amn. You can run your own guildhalll if you play it right. The only thing I dont like about some mmo's are there are no Thiefs. Its like they replaced them all with assassons. I mean i like assassins and made one for GW but come on now. They definitly need to make more games like that but some games have a rouge proffesion that is sometimes like a thief. This is definitly one of the profesions they need to add to future games.

I think only the thief enthusiasts are looking at this thread.  That's why the poll is 100% thief.

Best place to find a thief class is Shadowbane, as was already said.  I'll just say it again for accuracy :P  I used to have one on there, but...really, just play Assassin.  Normally when you sneak a peak at somebody's inventory in Shadowbane, you already planned on killing them anyway, and the assassin is better at that.  You only generally use pickpocket from a much higher level player, and at that point, since it uncloaks you...your gonna get screwed unless you can time it very very well.

DDO has a lock picking, trap disarming thief. Fun character to play in a game that has some serious later game problems. But it does have a 7 day trial so try it for a week and have some fun

Play Oblivion. It surpasses any MMORPG theif experience out there.

The just can't seem to balance it right for MMORPG.

And we see the dawning of a new age. First we had the UO fanboys, then the SWG fanboys, then the EVE fanboys, and now emerges the ever obsessive Darkfall fanboys ::::18::

You can still play old school UO. However, I cannot say more on these forums.

shadowbane has THE BEST thief class bar none

As other people pointed you too.

There is only one MMO like this ->Shadowbane. Not only that the game is a ripoff of GODWARS MUD , not only that it is the most rutheless PVP MMO ever ,
but you can play genuine THIEF - a dirty class THAT APSOLUTELY EVERYONE HATES and usualy kills and hunts on site !!!

The real deal for the thief (and mud player) in you.

Shadowbane is now free, but note that it is a very old game. And there is almost no PVE at all , it is 100% PVP oriented...

Like a few people have said before me, check out Oblivion. You can do whatever you want. I lost count of how many times ive broken in somebodys room/house and stolen things off their tables and out of their cabinets while they stand there and shout for guards, then turn around and kill them, sneak out un touched.

Its not an MMO but regardless its better than any experience you can get from todays MMO's.

Your question has been answered but I'm just going to reiterate it...Shadowbane is your best choice.
