Just to give you some of my back ground.
I have played UO from day one til day one of EQ.
I have beta tested, AO, DAOC, Earth and Beyond and Eve.
I have played these MMORPGS
UO-Loved it. still have account, but its dead.
EQ-Love-hate relationship, still playing.
DAOC-beta tested it.Played off and on for about 1 year. Sold account. Was not my cup of tea.
AO- Just couldnt get into it. Sold Account.
Eve- Beta tested, didnt go beyond that, same with Earth and Beyond.
Star Wars-Cant believe they screwed the pooch on this one.Sold Account asap.
WWII Online- good idea, about it. Still have account, but havent payed in a year or so.
Shadowbane- bought it , sold it asap, to recoup on cash lost.
AC 1 and AC2- good game, just could get into it. Sold Accounts.
I hope you dont think i put that stuff up above to show just how great I am, it wasnt meant for that, nor do I think it. I am a MMORPGER, if and when they come out with a good AD&D MMORPG i will be there. Right now EQ is close as it comes and the only game I am playing besides NWN. When Horizons first came to the screen several years back they said this and that ( I wanted to play a Angel) about the game. Now the game I read about changed. I do not care about graphic, nor great items.
But in story and game play, is it worth it. I read the review, but that is just one mans opinion. So what do you think?
Please I do not care which is the best MMORPG either.
I just want to know about this one from players who have played it for more than 1 hour.

I played it for a week. Then i stopped before my free month was over. I played most of the games you played and i can tell you: There is no reason at all to buy horizons.
You still have accounts in horrendous games, you aren't great you're a fool.
It's better be hated for who you are, than loved for who you aren't.

Yea, it's sad, really. Horizons, as it was announced in the beggining, would've been a great game. I planned to be a vampire in that game, preying on unsuspecting newbs. Now though, Horizons is nothing but a pale shadow of what it could've been.
Thanks guys, you saved me some time and cash.

The reason I still have those games, NO WILL BUY THEM, i'll sell them to ya.
I was a long time beta tester and played the game after release for 7 weeks. During beta we were promised a tremendous amount of things for release and the words of David Bowman were failed. I did a big post somewhere around here about the state of the game, my opinions etc. The game had great potential butonce again another publisher released way too early changed the whole vision of the game and didn't listen to the testing community worth a crap. If you go to www.tazoon.com that was the official beta boards you can read a ton of locked threads from testers and current. Most people still consider it the official site.
I turned my guild over to a buddy of mine who said they just released the WitherAegis on everyone last week and it has been disastrous on their server because so many adventure type players have bailed. I rather not continue to beat a dead horse but my personal and honest opinion to you is this.
If you are a hardcore gamer who's hobby is gaming then go buy the game and try it out for yourself. Look you could spend 50 bucks in 1 hour eating a real crappy meal at a real crappy restaurant so even though people say it's a waste of money blahh, blahh, if you even get 3-4 weeks of game play out of game I personally feel you got your money's worth. I spent 100 bucks on the new Medal of Honor and Max payne 2 both for my Xbox and I beat them both in 2 days! Gaming is just a hobby to me and I jump games alot been gaming since early days of BBS and MUd's so I get bored fast.
Nothing has been so overtly dynamic and non tread mill type to make me want to stay a long period of time. My biggest stint was a tester for DAOC for 2 years. That was the longest run ever for me and I personally am burnt from that game and never would go back but it is still a good game in cvomparison to what is out on the market today.
There are several titles coming at us very soon and you might want to wait for them. I personally went back to playing Diablo2 for ha ha's with a couple friends and were having fun with the new patch and it gives me a break from the MMO system of pain for a few months. Other than that I play my Xbox and Risk2 on PC. Good luck in whatever you chose.
Through your fear I am reborn. My hand of grief can't be ignored. You know my name.... yes you know who I am. Frustrating turmoil again and again. I am the spike that drives through your hand. for i am eternal battering ram!

Who cares what it was supposed to be back when David Allen exposed his thoughts to the world. He was a dreamer, and his Horizons is nothing like the Horizons you see on the market today. Today's Horizons is essentially Asheron's Call meets Dungeon Siege.
The game itself, at this point in time, has some serious problems. This is true. I do not think those problems will persist for a terribly long period of time...but until they are resolved I agree that it's not worth jumping into unless you love crafting.
Mind you, I play this game every day and I love playing it. I love the crafting...it speaks for itself and I won't bore you with details. Suffice it to say only ATITD has a better system of crafting.
I do, however, love the fighting. I've seen waves of mobs march down roads from their fortresses to attack specific targets. I've seen NPC and PC cities besieged, sacked, and occupied by the Withered Aegis. I've watched dynamic weather affects move with key NPCs as they marched in war (extremely cool effect). I've watched "special" (named) NPCs march with their minions...their minions scouting ahead, flanking, and holding rear-guard with a decent tactical formation. I feel very comfortable, now, saying that the events of the game are living up to the potential promised by the company and the engine.
But the game lags pretty badly. Until that is resolved there isn't any reason to jump in the game just yet. That being said, I predict that many of you will hear quite a bit about this game throughout the year. The way events transpire in this game are sometimes really unique and enjoyable.
Got to say i agree Horizons has been a let down. It had, still has, massive potential but as it stands at the moment it is, well, dull. I'll keep my account for a while longer but I suspect Horizons is going to fall by the wayside. Also, I've got to say it is the quietest game I've ever played in terms of chat - dunno why.
in the meantime can anyone recommend an mmorpg to keep me going to the next crop come out in the summer / autumn (fall). I've tried DAOC, AC2, Eve,SWG and obviously Horizons with varying degrees of satisfaction. I'm in the UKso my chioce is kinda limited. any suggestions appreciated
Agreed he was a dreamer the idea of his world was too much for technology of 1999 i think.
However a lot of it (agreed not all) of the vision could have made it by 2003.
Fact is they took all his ideas and dumped most.if not all. They totally made a different world from what most of us have been anticipating .
But like a poster said $50 is nothing. We all blow such money on crappy games we dump after a few hours of play.
Hrm....Maybe he was a dreamer, but without dreams, people wouldnt reach for the next tier.
Point is, you dont say to the dreamer hes a fool, instead you take his dreams and make them reality. Horizons idea was not ahead for 1999, it'd take a while to get it done for sure. Most games today are just linear treadmill piece of crap, the Original Horizons promised to change that, but then they killed it, buried it, and pissed on its grave.
