My thoughts going into the game blindly

I've played FFXI, EQ2, WoW, GW, MS, CoV, CoH, and now DDO.

Currently I'm playing Guild Wars which I enjoy very much. I just play it so much that I wanted to find a game to take a break for Guild Wars now and again. So I bought D&D Online.

I would play WoW but for some reason I have issues running it on my computer.. all other mmo's worked fine. ANYWAY to the point:

The game is decent.. however I can not imagine paying a montly fee for this game. No the game isn't decent, it's good. I can't exactly place my finger on what the problem is specificly for me. But paying a montly fee seems very silly to me for this game. If it was free I would be there, but heck almost any payable mmorpg has more enjoyment and playability.

I found it to be rather bland for the most part and the combat leaves a lot to be desired.

However the missions themsevles are done VERY well. That is certainly the High point of the game. But with all the others out there I think this would only appeal to D&D fans of the pen and paper game... there is little accessibiliy and enjoyment for people who are coming into it completely new.

So in short.. Great job with Missions... I say they cut their losses now, start over and work at making other aspects of the game better and keep the missions.

Trust me, wait for Neverwinter Nights 2. Have you seen any of the development for it? It really is amazing. I might need to upgrade my gfx card though :(

    No annoying animated GIF here!

The quests are very well done and exciting the first and even second time you do them. But in order to level up you have to do the same quests over and over without a change. Even with making each quest more difficult the mobs spawn at the same spots, the traps always at the same place. By the time your leveling your 2nd toon you are so bored you play half assed and lose the fun of the game.

Many people agree with you on this one, but not me.  Perhaps it is due to the fact I did the free trial, but I felt like the game held my hand throughout the entire quest process.  First I would get a voice stating "you notice that X exists beside the Y".  So I know that I must do something with X beside the Y.  When approaching X I see a giant arrow pointing at it- again making it obvious.  Then my quest journal highlights that I must do something with X.

One of the quests I did even started out with "You checked the upstairs already and found nothing".  I'd rather have actually checked the upstairs instead of being told I did.

Anyway, I'm the kind of person who loves doing puzzles, so when it is as easy as that, I got disappointed.

The earlier quests are like that, very simplistic, i guess to give people more of a chance to get to know the combat system. I know the later quests, say level 6 and above dont have the same hints. Not saying you should pay to stick around for them but the first time around are very enjoyable

I am not a programmer, but I don't see why they couldn't randomize the dungeon everytime you entered it new. I know Diablo was able to do this although it was a stand alone game so I don't know if it is possible to do online.

In short, a saving grace for this game could be implementing randomized dungeons and crafting.

Although going through a dungeon and knowing where the traps are can be fun just to watch a new person get hit that that big ass flame trap. Makes me laugh everytime new people try to zerg.

In America I have bad teeth. If I lived in England my teeth would be perfect.

Diablo worked with the random generator wwith their online version (multiplayer) too.  Because DDO is 100% instanced missions, there is absolutely no reason why they could not do this.
