E3 to end

due to lack of finances
isnt this a big deal??

i mean this is pretty much the only all round game expo
and certainly the only one so big
and with all the games showing off
the events
the participants
and new technology

Not to mention news coverage,
especially on G4

why is this being cancelled?
are games really losing that much intrest with people?

you should have read the full article.  The large game publishers and hardware companies are pulling out because they basically foot the bill and allow smaller vendors to get lots of media coverage that they couldn't normally afford.  The large companies decided that their money would be better spent advertising for their own product rather than advertising for the industry.

Personally, I'm pissed because it is actually OUR money that foots the bill for E3 and I feel like that convention and others like it help to push the envelope.  It exposes customers to the new things on the horizon, but it also allows companies to stand side by side and be judged by their peers.

    seriously,
i mean shouldnt larger companies be just as honored when comparing video games
    its about quality, not cost

E3 is paid for by the gamers and participants that go
and the large companies that pull their money out piss me off
this just goes to show that they are most likely Not high quality and more greed

how can they be upset that when they put money into a game convention
that allows all games to be viewed as equally important.
That just shows that they dont care about their industry in my book

E3 is paid for by the participants; the majority of it is paid for by the LARGER companies who participate.  Basically, the ratio of expense to exposure drastically favors small companies over big ones.

How can they be upset about putting their money into a game convention that advertises their competition?  Um, easily.  =)  If I was working for <insert big game company here>, I'd feel a little odd basically subsidizing dozens of small dev teams out of my advertising budget every year!  They have to be asking themselves, which makes more sense for them: pay millions of dollars to help fund a big event that gets them good publicity, but ALSO gets other companies good publicity - OR spend that money on advertising and marketing for their games through other channels instead.

I'll be sad if E3 dies, too.  It's a great event.  But if it's important to the industry, someone else will pick up the ball.

This is a shame.  It's one of those moves that I completely understand from a business standpoint but am not at all happy about from a consumer standpoint.  E3 is an excellent event, hopefully it'll live on in some scaled down form.  For many smaller companies, E3 is probably the only chance they get at large-scale advertisment for the product.  But, we've seen this kind of thing repeatedly in other markets, so I'm not really all that surprised, tbh.

    E3 isnt ending.... ::::12::

It's just going to downsize and be industry only, which is what it was originally intended to be.
