Over the years there have been reports that E3 would no longer be held. Now two major companys are pulling out of E3, Sony and EA are no longer going to appear at the E3 trade show, thus many small companys have further agreed and are going to host there own showings. They say that for the price it takes to rent out their floor space (this years Sony's floor space cost over 12 million dollars) they do not see much come from it. I believe even though i will miss the excitement of the E3 trade show I think it is better in the long run. More new spread out of longer time spans so when we see the games the are not rushed out the door. Increasing quailty and getting there name out there is near impossible for small companys and there games get shoved out of the lime light and get almost no attention at all. Is this a good or bad thing for the future of our industry?

"Details are still being worked out, but some details are known: The event will be moved from the Los Angeles Convention Center to a smaller venue yet to be determined, possibly a hotel.
The usual date in May will be pushed to early July, closer to the holiday season. In recent years, an increasing number of exhibitors were compelled to show off their upcoming products but were unable to present demonstrations that could be played."

I think it's a good thing. More depth, content, and information...less flash and bang.

I find it amazing that by 2020 first world countries will be competing to get immigrants.
Golly. What a drama-queen. E3 is not dead. It is just reduced in size and returning to what it was supposed to be: an *industry* trade show, not a big PR-driven circus.
E3 got too big for its britches and stopped being a place where Devs, Publishers, and other insiders could get any real work done. Meetings were difficult or impossible to get. No one said anything but the company line about anything. It was getting super-expensive. Plus, IMO, Devs got too focused on having "something" for E3, rather than simply building their product in a smooth and comprehensive manner.
I'm glad they did this. I think it will be good for the industry as a whole.
Well, I don't realy give a care about EA, I think they kinna suck and I don't play any of there games.
Sony, well I wont be paying any attention to them for the next 4-5 years anyways...(since I'm never going to be able to afford a ps3 untill it drops in price) and I think a lot of people feel the same way.
E3 is going to be called the Electronic Entertainment Expo Media Festival... Or E3 Media Festival.
From Wikipedia:
'On July 31st 2006, the ESA announced sweeping changes would take place prior to the 2007 E3.[2] No longer a massive gaming expo, the event is to be downsized at the behest of industry giants such as Nintendo, Sony, Microsoft, Electronic Arts, and THQ. Among the changes is a modification of the name from "E3" to "The E3 Media Festival".
Although E3 was originally envisioned as an expo open only to game industry professionals, it has grown in recent years to include greater numbers of bloggers and attendees who were not industry professionals. [3] Most of these bloggers will be completely excluded from the revised event, as the ESA has announced that the new E3 will be invitation only.[4]
This is seen as a severe blow to smaller gaming publishers and developers, as they relied on E3's mass-market buzz and may have to leave the event and advertise independently if the new format becomes too exclusive. Also harmed is the city of Los Angeles, which experienced a huge economic boon from the influx of gamers and industry employees during the event.[5]
Although the future support of E3 is unclear at this point, Nintendo has stated that they will still be present at future E3 expos. Microsoft and Sony have not yet stated their stance on the issue.[6]'
