SOE is already a co-publisher of this game.
And if my prediction is correct, SOE will be buying out Sigil entirely in about 1 to 1.5 years from now.

it doesn't strike me as odd at all they are changing the death system in early stages of beta, wow did it after the game was released, let alone still being in beta.
how can you test something like the death system without beta testing it first? they always say they test things in beta and if they don't work out they will change them and even consider throwing them out.

alot of games use beta as a pr tool and not really for testing, like sigil does. i am well aware that vanguards beta hasn't gone smooth as they would like.
but the game is still raw and has alot of bugs to work out still (so i have heard, I'm not in beta) so people think it will suck at release because it isn't polished right now.

PR tool ? yup that is right it's often the case but at a different stage of the game dev i guess. A beta under NDA, i seriously doubt it helps PR in any way. Shouldn't be that hard to understand for testers.
But i agree with you for the rest... people are thinking too fast ;-)
Originally posted by joejccva I don't understand why people are evaluating the game when it's only just starting beta phase 3. I think it looks fantastic and the features from what I've seen are very nice. I'm looking forward to it very much.
Actually, the game is still in beta 2 (as of August 3rd). Testers are still playing on the MS servers and have yet to be transfered to the SOE servers which should happen shortly before the official beta 3 invites go out.
So any complaints you hear about the game are from people who are breaking the NDA of a game in the second stage of what will likely be a five stage beta.

yeah, alot of games are "polished" and pretty much complete before they start inviting random people to beta. regardless of NDA the word does get out, and being a seasoned beta tester myself i have never tested a game that wasn't somewhat polished when i got invited.
not that some games don't have a beta like vanguards, but that is just my personal experience.
I never hear anything bad about this game, only from people that WANT to find things bad with this game.
I hear too much good from the game. When I see screenshots, I get excited. When I watch the videos, I get beside myself. I'm not going to let a couple of people out of thousands, tell me that this game isn't worth checking out.
World of Warcraft has MANY people that hate the game and I do a little bit too...but in all honesty, it's fun to log on and quest for a little bit. Millions still play it.
Beta is beta. Beta is a before release thing. It's stupid to judge everything based on beta...if your not having fun with the mechanics, then don't play. Cause to be honest, I'm tired of twitch MMOs....Vanguards styles is what I'm looking for.

Feels like they are getting cold feet on corpse runs.
The way I understand it, it was always the plan, just never relayed to the public. Sigil has always said that there were parts of the mechanics, mostly the revolutionary stuff, that they weren't talking about. And, Beta 0-2.5 has been about getting the environment working, quests working, and most importantly fleshing out group combat.
Corpse runs have been active in the game since the earliest of Beta phases, and (if you actually keep up on information about Vanguard) you'll know that they are turning systems on gradually.
Besides...I don't really think you stumble upon something as innovative as graduated death penalties without a little planning. They always said corpse runs will be in the game.....and they still are, if you are fighting the correct threat level creature.
