NOOBs like me different races

LummoxLummox Member Posts: 32

I just started, and just like a married couple, I turned a few real life friends to the dark side. They are playing as well.  We weren't online at the same time for a while so we didn't discover this problem until much later, but we are playing different races.

The problem is that I don't think a Gallante can do Amarr missions (or am I wrong).  Even if I could, would I want to?  Would I get access to equipment that I can't use?

Is there a place or mission path that we can follow that we could all share without any adverse impacts?

Initial character race means essentially nothing. You get a bit of a boost in standings to that faction, but if you want to go run missions for another faction, have fun. Itll take a bit longer to get to lvl 2 agents, but thats not a huge deal if it means you get to play with your friends.

Unfortunately, the biggest problem is that missions are something of a solo exercise - you can have as many people run them as you want, but only the person who accepted the mission from an agent gets standing rewards (group missions have been on the drawing boards for a while, although I dont know what their status is).

If you are playing with friends though, usually the guy who needs the faction takes the mission, and the others just help him crank those missions out. people usually split the cash reward so it's okay to team up. Also you can do missions a lot faster and you end up making more money in the end in a good gang.

It is true that race means nothing. Regardless of your race you can all take up root in the same section of space. Purely with going into agents for faction you can rise the ranks to level 2 and 3 agants. However... If you use social skills to boost not only a pure faction gain, but as well as boosting the rae at which you raise faction, a Galante can use Caldari agents, as well as any other opposite as you can think of. And theeariler you choose to all pick a race to do missions for the better.

The same is true for ship choices. You have no limit in where you can go, what mission areas you use, or what ships you fly regardless of racial choices, it is just faster to purely stick to your races agents, and ships.

If you can all agree on a mission race, you can all operate in the same region of space, and simply travel where you need if you are using seperate racial ships to get the modules and shps you need.

For example, my corp resides entirely in Gallante space, although our POS is on the edge of Gallante space just inside Amarr territory in Aeschee. All our operations occur in Gallante sapce, and our POS uses A Gallante tower. But we have members among all races. If you can all choose a single races agents to work under, you can all easily coexist without screwing over your friends while helping out in missions.

Well simple answers are: Probably not, Yes, Yes.

    Complex answers:

Do you want to do Amaar missions if you are Gallente: If you are flying Gallente ships it would not be the smartest thing to do. Since you want to have high standings with the faction whose ships you can fly. That way in the long run you may have a chance of getting navy issue BS of that race (.9 bil value).

Would you get access to equipment you cant use: Yes, as in when the reward is an Amaar ship you cant use it.

Is there a place or a missions where both of you can do it together: Yes, there are three things you can do.

    a) Go to 0.0 and rat there, however that means you will also join a corp and alliance that will give you access to 0.0.

    b) There is nothing wrong with your friend taking a mission and you are going there as a wingman to help him. You will not be completing a mission and not gaining and mission benefits but you will be sharing the kill rewards. The only time it will have adverse effect is if he is doing a storyline mission and his objectives are to exterminate gallenti fleet officers. (that would hurt your faction).

My advice to you is go to your region of space and do what you do and let your friend do what he does and if either of you cant finish a mission the other can come over and help the other.

    c) Do a complex together, you see them all over the place if you go to make and select (in Star display) to show DED ratings. You will systems that have different complexes of different difficulty. Both of you can go there together and do them together you will be sharing rewards (as long as you are in gang).

Remeber missions are not the end of the game those are only the means of getting used to combat system and understand basic concepts about combat.

Well actually EVE is one the few games where old and new characters and different races can intermingle without any restriction. The only restrictions are those that you set yourself.

Yes, it is true, that you lose a bit of standing to the Gallente Federation if you do missions for the Amarr. But the gain is by far more than the loss, and so you can do missions for the Gallente to bring that standing with them up again for a small loss in standing with the Amarr. I have access to Gallente lvl4 agents, Caldar lvl4 agents, Minmatar lvl3 agents and I could get access to Amarr lvl4 within short time. It's all a matter of balance and declining the right missions (mainly those which are directed against opposing force's Navy).
From an RP pov? I am a Merc that works for the great nation's Navies to help keeping the (NPC) pirate menace at bay. And I work for any Navy, as long as payment is well. See? nothing is impossible.

If you want to play a nationalistic group, then ofc you need to have characters of same or at least allied race. But other than that, there are truly no restrictions. The main doctrine of every game is to have fun, and simply do what pleases you. RP-wise explanations of why a group came together can be found anytime.
