So what is everyone expecting?

What is everyone expecting to get out of this game?  Is it the new combat-system you want to try?  Is it the advance (mature) character creation they'd like to use?

Why is it you want to play this?

For me, it sounds to me like a nice breath of fresh air to a stale genre.

I completely agree. it looks like a breath of fresh air. I have never payed a lot of attention to Age of Conan, untill I noticed a few gameplay movies. the game looks beautiful, but, as Vixenheart said, also really looks like something NEW.

the thing that reallly made he hyped about this game is the combat. for me, combat is the most important thing in an MMO. no matter what MMORPG you play, combat is always the aspect you will do most. Its good do see AoC will have completely diffrent combat then other MMO's. really looking forward to this title.

Personally I followed Funcom from Anarchy Online to this. In my opinion, the two things that make or break an MMO above all others are community and the customer service. Funcom has always provided the best of both, the fact that the game itself looks truly awsome in all other aspects as well has me close to drooling over it.

As someone said in another post... every company has a flop, and I think for FunCom it was Anarchy Online...  To a degree the game was destined to flop when it first was launched, yet made a come back.

I think FunCom has learned from their mistakes and aren't going to do the same with Age of Conan.  (Or we can just hope not)

This isnt one of the games i am going to be extremly focused on but i will buy it if it is done right come release.

I am looking forward to extrame customization character wise, and not just in the chreation section, from the armor i get through out the game to the weapons, i wanna get to max level and not run into anyone who looks remotly like me. I hated that so much in warcraft and everquest and every koorean game to date, you move up through certain level teirs and you just look exactly like everyone around you.

I look forward to combat bring innovated, and fastpace, something like dead or alive, or tekken, something that makes me get a controller to keep up, i wanna see the game focus on more then just decapatation as its new combat feature, i wanna see all limbs have the abiltiy to be removed, from heads to torsos, to fingers and legs, if we are going matures, lets not hold back.

Course language is a given, no chatfilters, blood , soft nuditiy, i dont wanna run into some people literrally having cyber sex, but nuditiy would be cool if done right. Quests, and depths, not just a harsh grind to levle 80 so you can get right into building your guild city because theres nothing else to do.

I dont want people on mounts to be utterly unstoppable, i know it will be based momentium and all that, but i want to know if need be i can kill that hourse to get dude off his mount, or i can even jump and attack the dude on his horse and take his mount.

This game looks like it needs to do some serious open pvp, to actually convay the brutalty of the world of conan, i wanna know that everything i can do with npc i can do to players, with some exceptions, i will be ok with no dismembering other players, after all there has to be some explination for them reviving in one piece.

To be honest, that formation combat looks like nonsense, i cant imagine doing any pvp walking in a massive bullseye set up.. err.. i mean formation, after seeing the video of the trebuchet destroying the entire squad in one movement, why would anyone have a use for that.

I hope guild v guild has the same intensity as lineage 2 castle seiges, with interesting outcomes that dont all revovle around killing everything that moves.

Thats all i can think of right now.

I hope to not see children doing cyber sex with half naked toons... that's just annoying in any game.  I think as time goes on, we'll start to see more and more features we haven't seen before.

Already you can chop heads off.  The graphics are pretty awesome if you ask me.  And when you PvP you can loot their body.

It sounds like what Ultima Online use to be like, but in a 3D version. :)

I dont mean to be a speaker of doom or anything, but I haven't seen anything that'll make this game an incredible MMO.

I'm definitely looking forward to the combat and gameplay and the new things they're bringing to the table, but I'm not expecting it to have a good community or RP value or even good PvP.

I plan on trying it out, but I haven't seen anything in it that would make me want to subscribe.

How can you say it's not going to have PvP when that's a lot of what the game will be about.

What next-gen MMORPG are you waiting for?  And why?

  • DeserttFoxxDeserttFoxx Member UncommonPosts: 2,402

I think age of conan will have some good pvp, since the game seems to revolve around combat and other barbarians(players) theres no way this game wouldnt have good pvp, when their entire selling point is player made cities and city raids.

The game i am waiting for is hero's journey, they havent much advertising as age of conan or the others yet, but this game will blow people away, its release is 2007 as well.

The move of conan had some cool stab and slash kills, and though the game was a bit buggy due to it being beta, it look fairly cool, and fightign the with bow and actually swinging it when mobs are too close, to say this game doesnt look promising means you  really havent taken the team to look into the game.

New game, new guild. Age of Conan's setting and gameplay takes my interest over the others that are currently in development. I'm more of a crafter when I play, I'll level up to the max and just enjoy myself in the environment. Right now I have absolutely no idea how the resource gathering will be handled so it's hard to say that I'm really looking forward to that part yet, though it's something I've enjoyed a lot in the past (Ultima Online was my favourite for that).

Second up I guess would be the battle over land with my guild in the designated PvP area.

Many reasons i will be playing AoC. But all of them already mentioned,
mainly the fact that it is new, seems extremely promising with in gmae
videos to back it up. I think we've all been waiting for a new MMORPG
to call home like we've all once seemd to of had.

All this and what i've found here  are reasons AoC will be getting my money.

Awesome!  I love reading whatever I can about this game.

I love how many different mounts you can have.  It would be awesome walking into town on a mammoth.  Can't wait! :)

I'm looking forward to it all :P

Graphics, Violence, Whatever the M rating brings in, I have a strong feeling the community will be mature for the most part.
The fact that its an Action RPG, Mixed with an RTS battle system for seiges.(My two favorite game genre= RPG/RTS)
I expect that 1 on 1 pvp will be just so so. But the Seiges, im counting on them to be fun, intense, addicting and just plain chaotic.
I'm hoping the game will be balanced, and based on skill and not just on how well you can mash buttons and how good your timing is, Which is pretty much what they said they were trying to do.(Lets just see if they pull it off)

And im just looking forward to whatever suprises await around the corner, And the new things we learn with the info that is to come in later days :P

Until they actually "show" us the PvP, which I think they should've done first if the game is so centered around it, I'm going to be skeptical.

I've searched and searched, and all I've found are videos on the single player first 20 levels, and on single player city building where NPCs come and attack the city.

While the information on the PvP sounds pretty good as far as building the battle keeps and such, I want to see two players hitting eachother.  Then I'll be able to say that I'm looking forward to the PvP, until then I'm just wondering "why haven't they shown us PvP if the game is supposed to be centered around it?"

Since they are making pvp consensual, Im thinking if you want the good pvp you have to do seiges and stuff. And that kind of video would take some time, especially since the game still has bugs and kinks to work out.
But i bet they will show us some kind of 1 on 1 pvp soon :P

I agree.  I think right now they are just working on getting the game running, etc.  I think they are going to put PvP videos in when the time gets right.

I am looking for a game where PvP means something and so does being in a guild. UO had this and so did Shadowbane but UO lived out its life and Shadowbane had major flaws that this game looks like it might have improved upon. The graphics still look buggy to me but the city size and seige weapons sell it.

Nothing like a massive PvP battle where the penalty is the loss of weeks or months of work, supplies, money, and of course your home. The prize is a reputation, security, and when you are on the other side of things: New Territory. Throw in manually aimed archery and castle walls and you have me drooling.

Are you serious?! How is that a good thing in any game? I must have read that wrong...nope it seems like you're actually into that type of gameplay that actually punishes or nullifies time spent, (or most accurately...time bought), playing the game.

I guess I just don't get the mindset of people that enjoy heavy death penalties, delevelling on death in PVE/PVP, or losing on hand items after being beaten. Why pay to be punished?

When there's a game with a death penalty system like the one explained, it makes it so the higher end PvP people will think twice about just attacking some random person.  It will also mean that PvP will be only used when it's absolutely necessary.

I actually like the idea because it is more realistic.  If you kill someone in life, you have to worry about what will happen, who will come after you, etc.   Why shouldn't that be the same about Age of Conan?

I didn't know the game was called Age of Carebears...

  • SmirchSmirch Member Posts: 163
So your main point is that you want higher level people to not attack everyone they see because of a penalty? I would call that carebear since it's reducing the amount of PVP action in the game. But each to his own I guess.

Funcom already has a method of dealing with that. Anarchy online does a check before your char can fire on someone else. If you are way out of the lvl range you get a nice lil message saying sorry try again in a few lvls.

I like this. ganking newbs is griefing plain and simple. it's not carebear. Do you kick puppies on your way home from work?

I'm expecting excellent well thought out game play. an intuative interface. complexity to keep my gaming needs satisfied, and full out smackfesting. Big titted avatars played by men wont thrill me. Our ao guild used to have thong races all the time for new members.

Funcom is an amazing company that always brings out interesting material. Different than the current mold. And when they fuxor up they own up.

They provide excellent customer service and actually listen to their playerbase...that's worth my sub price alone.

BTW smirch quoting you isnt really an attack. I like most of what you have written in various forums, but newb spanking is just pointless and unproductive. will only lead to people leaving.

  • SmirchSmirch Member Posts: 163
Agreed. I should have been a little more clear in the last post. I think it will affect how much pvp action is seen during even level conflicts. If you see two or three similiarly levelled opponents chances are you will turn and run with a heavy penalty game...thus reducing the balls out pvp fest that online gaming should be.

Besides, even with a heavy penalty game you'll still see lowbie ganking because what does the aggressor have to lose? He surely isn't worried about dying and incurring the penalty or losing items so it brings us back to the honor system.

  • BoozekBoozek Member Posts: 110

lol turn and run? items can be replaced...dignity cant ;)

Boozek = shortened nick given to me years ago by AN OVERZEALOUS gm that thought boozechronicwasa drug term. Sorry just a lush :)

Boozek = too stupid to run...besideslike any other game I've played I've studied your weaknesses. I've beaten 3-1 just due to the fact my running has been expected. It doesnt always work...errr well almost never works. But when it does you know you've just made mortal enemies for life :D

So your toon is strolling into a town.

Goes to a Tavern and orders Ale, not juice.

The dancer is topless. The graphics will be lame and it will be more comical than erotic but it will add to the atmosphere. Drunken AI will fall on your table and spill your beer. You get to smash a chair over his skull and be driven out of town by militia because his daddy was a guard. Take the stripper with you.

    Sounds fun.

Hello.  This is my first post.

What am I expecting from Age of Conan?  A good time.  A lot of blood, mature content, women, men, swords, killing, etc.

No stupid elves or goblins or anything you would get in 99% of all the other MMORPG's.

I'm expecting a lot of fun.  We'll see what happens.
