It's a gaming Network card.  If you read how it works you would understand what makes it powerful.  It takes control of your network processes; then prioritizes Games above all other network signals.  Which is OK; it can give you single digit pings.  But you can also customize the network settings; and do stuff like prioritize Bit Torrent above all else.  Or you can make yourself lag so you can rush through a hail of gunfire.  So it makes it more flexible.

Hrm. Let me clean that up a bit.

It's a sucker's Network card. If you knew anything about how a computer handles network traffic you would understand what makes it complete bullshit. It takes control of your common sense; then turns you into the computer hardware equivalent of a riceboy. Which is OK; if you are a moron. But you can also remove the blade from the card and kill people with it; and do stuff like prioritize having mother****ing blades on a piece of computer hardware above all else. Or you can make yourself a pitcher of poison Kool Aid to avoid the humiliation of your friends seeing this in your case. So it makes it more flexible.

    Done.

LOL! You should be a hardware reviewer, I bet lots of ppl will like you. "then turns you into the computer hardware equivalent of a riceboy. Which is OK; if you are a moron." I seriously laughed at this :D

Well done, Kurush.  God, if I wasn't such a nice girl, I'd definitely go into business selling useless rubbish on the internet.  It seems very profitable.  I'll try and remember to check this company later when people actually start using their "product."  At least it doesn't claim it gets you girls or helps you grow hair.

If you're a girl, you could sell any kind of hardware to the average hardcore MMORPG player. You don't need to know anything about computers. Hell, it wouldn't even need to be real hardware. Just rattle off some made-up jargon. I wonder how that would turn out . . .

Signe: "Hey, want to buy this network card?" *holds out a handful of Bazooka Joe bubblegum wrappers* "It costs three hundred dollars, but it has a dozen megaping buffers to help increase your frontside frame rate processor speed."

    Customer: *not making eye contact*

Signe: "It's on sale. It's normally five hundred."

    Customer: *because he's staring elsewhere*

Signe: "I play a night elf, you know."

    Customer: I'll take fifty.

Just what we need, more lag hackers but instead of some kind of program some new technoligy. Whats it going to be, 20 bux for bunch of 12 year olds playing counter strike ping-pong'n around.

wow, i feel like i am losing 20-30 IQ points just replying to these posts but......

Do yourself a favor guys.. first go READ about the card (oddly their website talks about it.. i know blows the freaking mind!)

2nd if your really curious go spend about 6 months taking cisco and basic network and packet encapulation classes, then you will understand what their saying (i already e-mailed them saying they have GREAT info and about %.0001 of the people reading it will understand, they need more realworld numbers and results of them vs cards that use the computers main CPU for en/de capulation of packets)

they have a great idea/concept but it is a new approach to something, and so most people don't understand.

If you wanna get a quick picture think of DOS attacks on major computers, they arn't bringing the network pipe down, their bringing the SYSTEMS down becuse their working so hard dealing with these tiny little packets (trying to identify each one etc). That is how a DOS attack works, (not saying this card would help or HURT that) but if you happen to use your system for TONS of multitasking such as games, Up/down loading data, file serving/sharing and/or synchronizing data between systems, the off-loading of packet encapluation and also a basic QOS code on YOUR side (pre-encapulation of packets) it has the potential to help greatly.

BIG question is the price, i have a feeling they are going to want "too much" for it, and by "too much", i mean too little gain for too much cost. $50 bucks.. or $100 bucks i might go for it, any more and it just isn't enough of a gain unless i have a problem with people packet flooding me all the time.

PS.. btw, in their documentation it even says they didn't design the card to allow "lag cheaters" and only allow you to adjust the packet timing by 20ms (no idea why you would want to do that honestly...)

With dual cores and quad cores comming down the pike. Why bother?

  • SigneSigne Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 2,524
I did read the info on their site, Gomfedj.  I can only say that if you've gone through the trouble of becoming Cisco certified and the like, this product would be a very silly thing for you to buy.  Of course, that's only my opinion.  I'm sure some people will feel differently.

So sorry about the loss of your IQ points.  Brain cells don't regenerate so it's always a sad thing when you lose some.  Hope you are able to manage without them.  Let me know if I need to type slower.

  • gomfedjgomfedj Member UncommonPosts: 21

don't worry about the IQ loss as for braincells, i think the ones i died from me banging my head on the desk were not needed anyways at least i don't REMEMBER needing them (anymore)..., and you don't need to type slower, just stop typing backwards, i held this post up to a mirror and read it ok, so this time it is no biggie..

I'm not cisco certified, don't have to be certified to know about it (honestly i didn't get certified becuse i went into the GIS field instead of Network Admin field). I think this card has potential BUT, i see it as more of off-loading some applications from the main CPU that are 100% based on network usage, such as a firewall and/or file transfer applications or IM's etc etc.. do i think a 400mhz processor is needed to do packet smashing for quake/doom/counterstrike/etc uhhh no.. that is about 350mhz too much unless you some how have a 100megabit a sec connection or something to the internet...

There is potential for this card if it is priced right and the right software is written for it, will it magically make you UBER in FPS games or MMO rpgs NO.. playing a character with jigglies does that geeze.. EVERYONE knows that...

also as for the post about dual/quad/faster processors, your exactly right on that point except, every little bit helps the more cycles you can dedicate to your game the better. Though MOST people are running into a wall with their Video cards now a days.. NOT their CPU's power, and also most games are making pitiful use of modern CPU's no 64bit support (so your using half of the potential crunching power a cycle), and also no multithreaded code is being written just about... only some games use it and even then it is only off loading of side things, like swaping data in/out of memory and/or a file, and/or unarchiving graphics and music so it is ready for the main cpu..

and last thing to note, when i purchased my 3dfx 3d accelerator back in the day (the one before the VOODOO cards, that used a daisy chain VGA cable..), this is the one that transfered the 3d accelerator data from cpu to 3d accelerator and THEN out the vga card (so it did it all across the PCI bus). people thought i was fucking crazy saying thigns like "cpu's are getting so fast now! we will never have games that take advantage of all the avaiable processing power!!!"

they also said we would never fill up our fancy new 10meg harddrives...

anyways.. everyone has opinions and a...holes, i dunno who is right and who is wrong, just becuse in concept is sounds good does NOT mean reality will go along with it.

but i figure i am gona give em the benefit of the doubt before i condem them (now if it was SOE doing this.. then BURN EM!)

I've been looking at that network card to.

I have a hard time understanding how there could be such a high quality network card and every single card works just like every single ethernet card.

Guess it has different parts besides telephone.

Have no clue about anyone getting those and have experiencec with them.

Don't make me giggle!  It's hot today and I had lots to do so I've been drinking a ton of water.  That makes giggling dangerous.
