    Short answer:  yes

Long answer:  Yes, they're deffinitely worth it.  However, it's NOT worth it if you a) get the core system without the hard drive or b) you don't get an XBOX Live subscription.  So much of what makes the 360 great is online, with marketplace, chat services, achievements and your gamertag, and just online gaming in general, that there's honestly no point in getting a 360 if you don't have Live.

With it though, it will be hands down the best gaming system you've ever bought, I promise.  If not because of pure power, because of ease of use, accessibility, and features.  I got a 360 a while ago, and in the time since my PC's gaming record has been slowly gathering dust.  Even on games like First Person Shooters, where it's undeniably easier to control with a mouse/keyboard setup, I have more fun on the 360.  It has nothing to do with the way I'm controlling it or how good the game looks, its because XBOX Live and all of its services make it more fun.  The PC version of COD2 (which I do have, and played it for 7 months before even getting the 360) technically has VOIP, but damned if you find anyone actually using it.  On the 360 (which I also have the 360 version), almost everyone uses VOIP because the premium system COMES with a headset that plugs right into your controller.  It's just easier to get up and go on the 360 than it is on the PC.

Not only that, but they incorporated the friends system into the game very well.  From your friends list you can see what your friends are doing, open private chats with them, invite them to an online game if you're in one, join an online game if THEY'RE in one, send messages, and a whole bunch of stuff.  It's just a very robust system altogether.

I could list pages upon pages of all the awesome stuff the 360 has to offer, but just check out Microsoft's official XBOX website, it has it organized better.

Microsoft really outdid themselves with the 360 IMHO, and if you get one you will not be disappointed.
