It depends on what normal server you play, some has more PVP some have less, thats life ;).

I've played both PvP and PvE servers to 60, and the PvP on normal servers is pitiful. I would be by myself and I would run into equal level opponent and he wouldn't flag until it was 3:1 favor his odds. Pretty sad. Usually people on normal servers don't flag unless the odds are in their favor. And most people, from my experience anyway, pick normal servers because they don't like world PvP. Too many carebears /waving to you and not wanting to fight. No offense though.

If you like PvP, then go to a PvP server. So much fun in areas like STV, TM, and Plaguelands, etc. You can just wander around and pick fights - which was honestly my favorite part of the game.

I played PvE first then went to PvP. Needless to say, I will never go back to PvE - ever.

Well the PvE server Emerald dream has regular raids, but it basically has all of the problems TacoMan has pointed out. If I were you, I'd get myself on Ravenholdt RpPvP server, and get ready for patch 1.12 which will hopefully make world PvP really good.

I actually get more "world pvp" on the PVE server I play on.

PvP on pvp servers consist of 5-10 on 1, or some kid with a level 60 "ganking" low levels.  While on pve servers its usually organised groups or 2 raids fighting it out, which is obviously more even and fun so it happens more often.

Right now all a PvP servers means is that 60's gank your while your leveling, and you get ganked in blackrock mountain. 1.12 probally wont add much to world pvp. WoW is a PvE game... and its going to stay that way.

My experience on pvp server has been mostly the gankfest type of thing where one to several opposing faction get into an area which they are ?? compared to the average characters and ganking them.  Not that I expected much more than that.  There is a feeling of having to watch your back while getting your quests done...

All my experiences only, and in no way reflect the game in its entirety

PVP servers - Other side will gank the hell out of you. After level 40 when you start going into the contested areas, it's much harder to level and do quests solo because there will almost always be a level 60 or another group of 40+ out there to kill and camp you. "Oh, but they'll get bored of camping me if I stay dead!" you say... no.... not at all... it's like they're machines! I have no fun on PVP servers at all, and I love PVP... when it's evenly matched. It seems like people only fight when they outnumber the other people at least 2:1.

Normal servers - No world PVP at all. The most that normally happens is someone accidentally goes into an area and gets automatically flagged so then they are ganked by the opposing faction, but even that happens rarely and is very situational. Almost no one manually flags themselves... BG is the only place PVP is done.

Yep... I stick to Normal servers and get my PVP fix in the battlegrounds, no matter how ridiculously stupid some members of the team can be...

I love that about PvP servers. I love going into contested areas and questing and feeling the danger and excitement of being able to be killed. No, I don't like getting ganked while questing - sometimes it's pretty damn annoying. But being able to attacked and being 'on my feet' all the time makes the experience more 'real' I guess.

Of course, no one likes unfair fights and getting killed by opponents 10+ levels higher than you and getting camped is no fun.

That's how I used to feel on PvP servers and it was the best experience on WoW I've had. However, like you said at the end, I always seemed to be on the bad end of unfair fights and ganking was constant!

PvP servers can be very fun, and it's all the more rewarding when you get out of a contested area alive, kill member(s) of the opposing faction even when the odds were against you, or simply help someone out who is being attacked. If you can live with the almost certain fact that you will be ganked and corpse camped, PvP servers are the way to go.

It's only dead because the concept of world PVP isn't a very good one. Ever since they added proper PvP gametypes in the Battlegrounds everyone abandoned world PvP for the ringer it is.

The WoW Ranking system caused areas to become overcrowded with warring factions when there wasn't a battleground to fight in. People wanted to get rank so they went where they could kill.. that meant places like Southshore. They effectively eliminated the prospect of someone around that level (of SS) getting quests done in that area.

Face it, most level ~30's have no chance of surviving a couple of hits from a level 60. One hunter aimed shot can finish off most classes at that level.

The point is, world pvp can be fun and exciting, but there needs to be some balance as to where people will be fighting.

    Just my 2¢.

    so...
